How serious is breast cancer

How serious is breast cancer?
My friend has breast cancer. She just found out today. I didn't know what to say to her because I don't know enough about it. I just want to know if this is something that she can beat and how long before she get very ill? She has a baby girl who just turn 1 yr old a few months ago. I wish I can say something to make my friend feel better... Thank you for your time.

It all depends on the type of breast cancer as well as how far along she is. She probably won't get sick until she starts treatments. The treatments for cancer are really what make you sick if you aren't very far along with your cancer to begin with. Good luck to her. The numbers for surviving breast cancer are getting much better. Hope she caught it early enough.

i think each year about 500,000 people die of breast cancer. i think it has gone down since 2004, but i think its pretty serious

Breast cancer is one of the most treatable of cancers. If she already knows she has cancer, then her next step is an Oncologist. My gosh, how old is she? She has a baby so she can't be that old. Breast cancer usually strikes post menopausal women. Is she sure it's breast cancer? Has she been to the doctor or had a mammogram? She will be fine but she has to have it taken care of right away. I always believe that everything is possible and young ladies can get it too. My sister in law was 33 when she got hers. I wish her the best.

About half a year ago we completed our breast cancer treatment. If it was caught early enough it is treatable, the earlier the better gives the best chance to survive the disease. She will not be getting ill from the cancer unless it is in later stages. Often it feels like nothing possibly a lump in the breast. What is going on now is lots of testing and doctor's visits to various clinics to make sure they diagnose her tumor correctly. Then after the tests are in and her oncologist knows exactly what they are facing will she get the best treatment options for her stage of cancer. Sometimes she will be faced with hard decisions to make, both roads will lead to the same place but she will have to decide which is best. For example: We had the choice to do chemotherapy first or surgery first. It was decided to attempt to reduce the size of the tumor and then remove it surgically. At first either way seemed to work but we chose this option. With a baby she will need extra help especially if she will be doing chemotherapy. What you can say is that you will be there as she goes through it and whatever she needs she can ask you. It could be as simple as cooking her a meal or taking her to an appointment. What she needs to know is that she has support because believe me she will need every ounce of it.

Breast cancer is not a single disease, it is a group of diseases which each have several stages. How serious this is for your friend will depend on her exact diagnosis. It can vary from easily treatable to life threatening. Whatever her exact diagnosis, she will be dealing with a lot of physical and emotional stress. Offer to help, but don;t just say "let me know how I can help" offer specific things that she may need, like taking her to her appointments, babysitting to give her a break, doing shopping, laundry, housework etc, cooking meals. All of these things are useful and practical and lets her know what you are prepared to do. Just a vague offer to help doesn't let her know what you would be best suited for. If you can't get off work and she asks for a lift to her appointment and you say no, then she will be hesitant to ask you to pick up a few things at the supermarket although that might be something you can easily do. Hope that makes sense, and remember, sometimes she might need a shoulder to cry on, other times someone to make her laugh and still others someone to remind her that this disease is beatable

Decide on the products you want to use for breast cancer awareness and then contact the manufacturers. This is how you will get the best deals. Good luck. You will not get good deals from retailers

I've had both fine needle aspiration and solid core needle biopsies done. In both cases the most painful part was the sting of the local anasthetic for about 3 seconds when it was administered. Add: I am actually fascinated by things like this and as it was done under ultrasound guidence they let me watch on another screen.
2 :
In all honesty I dread the thought of having a core biopsy ever again. I do have to say though that looking back it wasn't really painful, it was more the psychological side of it. I was just plain terrified. Then I have always been a whimp and scared of needles of any kind. If you have to have a core biopsy just lie there, close your eyes and relax. The surgeon will give you a local anesthetic to stop you feeling it. I have been told that a fine needle biopsy doesn't hurt

Should I be afraid of having Breast Cancer

Should I be afraid of having Breast Cancer?
I know that you can tell if you have breast cancer if you feel a lump in your breast. But I have lots of lumps. Is that just the tissue underneath? I don't know how its supposed to feel, I don't go around feeling everyone's boobs. What are healthy breasts supposed to feel like? I'm only 17, isn't more common in older women?

u can get cancer at any age now. anyway, u should go to gynecologist, she shows u how to check your breasts and checks them herself and tells u whether they re normal or not. and after that u will know how do normal breasts feel like
2 :
In your cleavage, there are lots of little bumps. It's more common in older women, but common in teenager's too. I wouldn't worry, if your talking about on your actual breast, and there are a lot of bumps. I wouldn't worry still, but get screened incase.
3 :
Everyone has lumps in their breast but if you have one that you haven't noticed and it feels different from the others you should have it checked. Yes breast cancer is usually in older women but everyone should check. Maybe you should talk to your mother about having an exam with the Dr. and when she thinks would be the right age for your first mamo. Called a baseline mamo,it is one they go back to and see if there is any changes.
4 :
Some women have what they call "cystic" breasts and you can feel small cyst-like lumps. When I found my lump it was hard and I definitely knew it shouldn't be there. I had a mastectomy in 2005 and I am doing great. You absolutely can survive cancer.
5 :
You should not be afraid. If you feel there is something unusual about your breasts...consult your physician..they can do an exam, an ultrasound, a mammogram...explain what you are feeling. Yes most women do not develop breast cancer at such a young age..but men can develop breast cancer too.
6 :
OK. Breast cancer in under 25s is almost unheard of. And fewer than 0.1% of those diagnosed are under 30; only 5% are under 40, 80% are over 50 and the average age at diagnosis is a little over 60. When I was diagnosed with breast cancer I was considered 'young' and allocated to the breast cancer nurse whose special interest was younger women with breast cancer. I was a few months past my 50th birthday. The American Cancer Society and other cancer organisations recommend that women begin breast self-examination at the age of 20. Most breast lumps, even in women over 50, aren't cancerous, and many women have naturally lumpy breasts. I assume you mean you have lumps in both breasts; the chances of you having cancer in both breasts is even lower.
7 :
well u should do a mammogram which is easy fast and effective ,it is advised to do out on regular annual basis find out more about it here http://breastcancerdestroyer.blogspot.com/2009/03/get-picture-mammograms.html

There is really no way to prevent yourself from getting cancer. All though there is a lot of stuff you can do to reduce the risk of getting it. Always make sure you do a self breast exam. That way if you feel any sort of lump whatsoever you can get it checked out. I also think you should get a mammogram frequently like maybe 1-2 times a year just to make sure you don't have anything. Eating healthy also plays an important role in your health. Try to stay in shape and eat right and stay active. If you like to stay out in the sun a lot, always make sure you use sunscreen ,to reduce skin cancer which later on can spread to the breast. Good Luck and best wishes

It doesn't have to be cancer, ill walk for any good cause. It'd be great if it was over a mile though. Are there any you know about coming up soon in maine or new hampshire?

It's great that you are thinking about these activities now. I'll try to give you a few links to keep an eye on. Also check your local newspapers, TV stations, flyers at local stores and doctors offices and so on. These kinds of events are usually well advertised.

I also have issue with breast cancer. I posted my problems on wish123 and got an excellent advise from an expert. I highly recommend the website!

you does having breast cancer make you unable to produce milk

you does having breast cancer make you unable to produce milk?
I'm doing a report on breast cancer and i have to describe what it does to the breast so does it make it unable to produce milk? what does it actually do to the breast?

The surgery to remove the cancer affects the ability of that breast to produce milk. 80% of women with breast cancer are over 50 so lactation really isn't an issue for most. One woman in my breast cancer support group (diagnosed very young) was able to have a child who she breast fed from her remaining breast without a problem

What are my chances of getting breast cancer? I have two Aunts with breast cancer

well idont know but about that lump I 100% recomend you to go see your doctor... There's a 50/50 chance i think PS>> can someone please answer my" help, just answer, genitalsthing" question please thanks :(

Get it checked. Although a mammogram isn't always conclusive and often shows false positives for young women. They (and including you) often have dense breast tissue which makes them hard to read. With your history of fibroadenomas you've probably had a few scares already. Do as much family history research as you can starting with Mom, grandmother, all sisters and aunts, go back as far as you can. You can usually do this just by interviewing your relatives. Their history is very important to you. One of my very good women friends and co workers, only 28 at the time, no history, perfect health, very fit with only 5% body fat contracted breast cancer. This shocked everyone. The younger you are the more aggressive it is. Within three months she was having a bilateral mastectomy and it had already spread to left side lymph nodes. She only had a 50% chance of even surviving the original operation. She did get through that and has had a recurrence (local) She's been through so much. She's 35 now and a two time survivor. She's currently gone 28 months in remission. She had been in remission 4 years and 4 months when she had a recurrence. Don't wait on this. I'm not trying to scare you, just inform you. I'm a well respected expert in the field of breast cancer and write for a number of breast cancer web sites. My e-mail is open. If you have any more questions feel free to send me an e-mail. If you get a mammogram and it's inclusive ask for an ultra sound. If your family history warrants it you may want to consider getting an oncologist to keep you on their monitor system. They'd likely want to see you every six months, just to stay ahead of the game. Don't think your to young.. I've known a girl who was diagnosed with breast cancer two days before her senior prom...she was only 17. Educate yourself, be aware, don't take anything for granted about this....it's your life and you have total control over it. I hope some of this info has been helpful. Charlie C.
