is this an effective way to fight breast cancer

is this an effective way to fight breast cancer?
If the cancer hasn't spread anywhere else can it be effective if you just surgically remove both breasts and put in fake implants so that way it removes the cancer, and you pretty much guarantee it doesn't come back?

If there has been no spread, then DCIS, a form of breast cancer is often just treated with lumpectomy and follow up radiation. This is less invasive than the double mastectomy and reconstruction you are suggesting, and has about a 99.99% success rate.
2 :
If the cancer remained in the breast and it's successfully removed vis lumpectomy or mastectomy, there will usually be some kind of added treatment to go along with it like targeted radiation or chemotherapy. Implants are often used for cosmetic reasons but offer no protection against breast cancer. There is never a 100 percent guarantee the cancer will never come back. Any doctor who says there is is lying. This health site recently did a slideshow on breast cancer. Check it out: http://www.healthline.com/corporate/breast-cancer/pain-in-breast.html
3 :
yes this a good way to make sure that it doesn't come come back but you could just remove one breast and then they ill just give you a readition pill for about 5 years and conitnue to check you up that's what happen to my friends mom,

The breasts are not the cause of cancer. You need to remove the cause. Estrogen has been linked to it and you can reduce estrogen out put by these things. 1. quit the pill. 2. get pregnant. 3. breastfeed. Long term lactation prevents breast cancer and cervical cancer both of which are hormonally induced. Therapeautic nipple stimulation also helps as the prolactin produced counters the estrogen. Don't lose them, use them

Is it really possible I have breast cancer?
I have gynecomastia and my left breast hurts sometimes. also ,my left nipple looks different from my right one. I looked on wrongdiagnosis.org and it says the only cause for gynecomastia and a painful breast is breast cancer. really?

No, it isn't true that gynecomastia is caused by breast cancer, if that is what you are saying. Gynecomastia is usually caused by hormone imbalance and can be aggravated by being overweight. It is true that men can get breast cancer though

do seatbelts cause breast cancer after a high impact accident

do seatbelts cause breast cancer after a high impact accident?
my co-worker just had a bad car accident yesterday morning. she called in this morning to let us know how she was feeling. she said that her doctor would like for her to get a mammogram because seatbelts may cause breast cancer. I have never heard of this in the past. is the doctor correct in letting her know this?
Cancer - 12 Answers

1 :
Absolutely not.
2 :
there is no correlation to a breast injury and breast cancer its a myth and she needs to seek a different MD http://www.fbhc.org/Patients/Modules/breastcancer.cfm
3 :
Seat belts cannot cause cancer .That is something in her genes.I see nothing wrong with her getting a mammogram.I do suggest a 2nd opinion for her.I hope she gets well soon.
4 :
Many things can cause breast cancer, however I don't believe that is the case. I was in a bad accident (back axle broken, tires shredded, window imploded, ripped my jeans, and bloody), at no time was I ever requested to get a mammogram to check, and my doctor checked for everything even when I didn't need it. Perhaps it runs in her family and he believes that something that jarring could force a tumor to the surface when earlier tests showed nothing.
5 :
hmm...if this were the case then it would present an interesting dilemma and two difficult choices for the female driver to consider: 1) Do I wear my seatbelt, knowing that it will save my life if I am in a "high-impact" accident but also being aware that it will leave me with Breast Cancer? or 2) Do I NOT wear my seatbelt, even knowing that it will save my life if I am in a "high-impact" accident and thus, avoid getting Breast Cancer that wearing those seatbelts would have caused? hmm.....
6 :
There is common sense in it. If the tissue has been damaged it stands to reason that it would be more open to disease. Cancer is a scary word. Until we know the exact causes of it, it's wise to take certain precautions about things like that.
7 :
Nope, there isn't data to support this
8 :
One has nothing to do with the other. I would tell tell your co-worker to get a second opinion. Don't get me wrong it is always good to have a mammogram done. But, I don't think she has anything to worry about. However you might be interested in reading the link that I have below. The link between breast cancer and bras.
9 :
There is no link between impact to the breast and cancer. And even if there was....it would take some time to be visible on a mammogram. I suspect she has got a bit confused about something the doctor said (understandable after the shock of a car accident). Maybe the mammogram is just standard preventative practice for her age.
10 :
NO
11 :
There is some anecdotal evidence to support the theory that an injury to the breast can cause cancer. Research to date has shown that it is more likely that the injury to the breast leads to closer examination discovering an already existing cancer. However, as we don't know all the causes for all cancers as yet, it is better to be safe than sorry.
12 :
There is no correlation between seatbelts and breast cancer. The mammogram would not reveal cancer unless it is already present even before the injury. However your friend may develop a mass on her breast secondary to traumatic fat necrosis. Although the natural history of fat necrosis is one of spontaneous resolution, excisional biopsy is usually required to exclude malignancy

if you have breast cancer is it easy to get it in your bones

if you have breast cancer is it easy to get it in your bones?
My mom was just diagnosed with breast cancer last wed. She is worried that it has spread to her bones because she has been so sick and hurts in her lower back and stomach. Is it possible for this to happen and her body giving her signs?

It is possible for breast cancer to spread to your bones, but it takes a while and it only happens when the cancer itself has spread and become more unmanageable. Its possible that there is something else thats going on, or she is just sick. She should talk to her doctor to make sure, but cancer takes a while to spread, and it would be in every bone

how can a men experience having breast cancer? how can we boys avoid breast cancer

how can a men experience having breast cancer? how can we boys avoid breast cancer?
there is a proof now that not only girls can have breast cancer but also boys too. im just curious.

1 :
Proof? It was never a great mystery, just much more rare than women having breast cancer. Men experience having breast cancer because men have breasts. How to avoid it? That's anyone's guess. Just stay as healthy as you can.
2 :
I don't beleive men can get breast cancer.
3 :
The fact that men can get breast cancer is not news. Men have breast tissue, and so can get breast cancer. It's rare though; fewer than 1% of everyone diagnosed with breast cancer are male. And most men diagnosed with breast cancer are over 60, though I have met a very few in their late 40s and 50s through breast cancer support networks. You use the words 'girls' and 'boys'; girls and boys don't get breast cancer. It's almost unheard of in women under 25, fewer than 0.1% of all women diagnosed with it are under 30, only 5% are under 40 and most (80%) are over 50. The causes of breast cancer are not known, so nobody can tell you how to avoid it, unfortunately. Just take comfort from from the fact that your risk of breast cancer as a male is minuscule
4 :
that is the problem of the question you pose girls and boys do not get cancer. This disease usually is for those that are mid life. And men get breast cancer but only a low percentage compared to women.
5 :
Although this is not common in men, the signs that this disease may be present in a male or a female are the same. However, it must be pointed out that these signs can also be an indication of something else. Here are the tips to lower your chances of getting breast cancer : 1. Daily physical activity is not only essential for overall health, it also can reduce the risk of breast cancer. You also can run, bike, swim, hike and play sports to mix up your fitness routine and stay motivated. 2. Maintain a healthy body weight throughout your life. Weight gain in midlife has been shown to significantly increase breast cancer risk. 3. Women who breastfeed their babies may have a slightly lower risk of developing breast cancer, especially if they continue breastfeeding for up to two years. 4. Alcohol use is the most well established dietary risk factor for breast cancer. 5. Women who gain weight as an adult are at a higher risk for breast cancer than women who have been overweight since childhood. 6. Consume as many fruits and vegetables as possible. Eat seven or more servings daily

Ideas for Service Learning Project on Breast Cancer?
At my work, we are planning to organize an event for breast cancer day. I am in a university, so would like to do an event with my college students. We are doing a service learning project on breast cancer. Can anybody please give ideas on what we can do? Thank you

In college an organization I was in sold pink t-shirts that said "Think Pink" on the front and had a ribbon on the back. The shirts were light pink with dark pink writing and sold very well. Girls love pink (most!) and many guys bought them for their mothers. We had to reorder the shirts several times so be prepared for that. You don't want to order too many but you don't want to not have enough either. If you can get a sample made and take orders that would likely work best. That way you can get the best "bulk" discount possible. Mention to the t-shirt vendor that the profits are going to charity and they may be willing to cut the price (but don't assume...everyone needs to make some profit) We sold them at a table in the campus center from about 10-2 each day for several weeks. We kept the prices reasonable because college students can't afford much. Many also don't keep cash on themselves. I think the shirts were great because they raise awareness and money. We also had information at the table about breast cancer and self breast exams. We also had a brunch where we had speakers that were survivors of breast cancer. We had the meal catered by the school dining service and we also had a silent auction with items that members of the group bought or had donated. We also had a night at a bar where we brought in a band (friends who played for free). The bar allowed us to have baskets out for donations. We also passed out free ribbons for people to wear. We didn't make much but it was a fun event. Between the shirts and the brunch we raised $7,000! We also sold pink rubber bracelets one year but those did not sell as well

Recipes for Breast Cancer awareness book

Recipes for Breast Cancer awareness book?
Recipes for Breast Cancer awareness book? Please donate your stories and recipes.. I am walking the 3 day walk for breast cancer in Atlanta, and need to raise money in order to walk. I would love to make a cookbook that inspired my community and educated them on the effects of breast cancer, all the while giving a recipe with something yummy to eat!! I would love to include your favorite recipes and also include inspirational stories. Livia- Let me tell you this..If it weren't for that RESEARCH my mother would not be here today to watch my younger brothers grow up. If it weren't for that RESEARCH then early detection would not have saved her life. While you may have your "opinions" on the matter, whether right or wrong, all I KNOW is that because of the money raised and donations being made, they are making advancements. As to whether or not they have a cure, I dont know...NOR DO YOU...But they are making advancements, and they have made the progress and have saved lives. And as far as people suffering and dying from it...Yeh I live it everyday...I work in hospice. So I WILL do this walk. I WILL raise the money. I WILL make this cookbook. And you, your a sad individual. Maybe me raising this money will one day save YOUR LIFE. or your DAUGHTERS life. or YOUR mothers life. or your SISTERS life. I'm a nursing student myself, I'm far from uneducated. So before you judge me lady, take a walk

You may not like what I am about to say. It sounds like you have a vision, and I'm about to try to burst your bubble. All for a good cause, though! You would serve this cause better by NOT using a cookbook as your vehicle of support. Women actually heal themselves of cancer on either partial (usually about 80%) or 100% raw food diets. Occasionally, the underlying imbalance requires a different sort of diet. And most will heal better and faster without chemotherapy, radiation and surgery because all of those treatments damage the immune system. One of the saddest things of all is that people like you work so hard to collect money to find cures. Why is that sad? Because Organizations that collect money to find cures for diseases will never, ever find a solution that doesn't involve profit to the medical community and pharmaceutical companies. What is sad is that the cures are already available and they won't tell us about it. What is sad is that people are dying and suffering needlessly because the authorities they trust aren't giving them the help that is available, and are throwing all sorts of money at "research." These organizations expect to exist in perpetuity. They are good money makers. They are geared to provide money for research AND for the highly paid people who run them. I'll be you don't know the obscene salaries these top execs make, do you? Natural cures exist and have been used successfully for decades. I personally know a number of these survivors, both men and women, and have seen their level of health and radiance. But no one who is making money off of an illness wants to look too closely for a cure. It is much easier to believe what you are told by doctors, pharmacy reps, medical and nursing schools, and so on. Please learn more about this. Googling "raw food and cancer" is a great place to start. Other key words/authors may include Ann Wigmore, Norman Walker, Anne Frahm, Max Gerson, William D. Kelley, David Wolfe, Tonya Zavasta, Victoria Boutenko, Doug Graham, Gabriel Cousens, Johanna Budwig, Crazy Sexy Cancer and many others. Please avoid the "quackwatch" site. The website author is AMA funded, put into place with access to lots of AMA files after the goverment shut down the AMA's anti-chiropractor attacks. It is simply shocking to me that so many people have been totally healed from cancer, and went on to live another 15-40+ years without another problem because they took care of the underlying imbalances in their bodies, and then their own bodies' immune system took care of the cancer, as it is supposed to do, and as it does in everyone's body, every day. What shocks me about that is that the medical community doesn't even consider promoting this diet and lifestyle therapy except in an offhand "eat well" kind of way. And in the AMA world, if a person can hang on for 5 years after a treatment, that is called a "cure." Never mind that they die the next year of liver failure or have permanent debilitating chronic pain from surgery, (my mother's case). As an RN, I have done intensive research over the last decade as to why people heal on raw food diets. I have come to the conclusion that for most people, a raw food diet makes perfect biochemical sense, fostering clean and efficient use of energy, absorption of nutrition and maximizing of the immune system. That said, there are people for whom a different diet is needed, depending on their situation. Metabolic Typing diets have been progressing in sophistication and proving themselves successful in clinical trials. There are now clear lab indicators to help doctors help patients find the diet containing the foods and supplements that help them restore their underlying biochemical imbalances. Again, these diets have had tremendous success in people with all conditions, including mental illness. Yet the medical establishment, with its sick relationship with pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, continues to ignore these advances. The fact that people have experienced healing in so many simple ways shouldn't baffle them if I, an RN, can see the logic behind it the chemistry. I had help, of course. Some cures have been promoted by Nobel prize nominees who explained themselves quite nicely. You sound like a wonderful person to sacrifice your time and energy for a good cause. I hope you become another voice for real and effective treatments for cancer. If you still want to do a cookbook, I suggest you consider a raw food cookbook, showing people how easy it is to have yummy foods that can actually heal them. There are a lot of resources for this as well

Does having had breast cancer reduces a person's lifespan

Does having had breast cancer reduces a person's lifespan?
My mother had breast cancer two years ago. She had chemo, radiation and everything's fine now. She says she has only five or six more years to live. Is that true? The only disease she has is diabetes. I forgot to add: she was 54 when she had cancer. She's 56 now.

No it is not true .. .. .. I had a mean Mother N Law (us guys are suppose to refer to them as one) that had both removed and she still lived 10 more years .. .. .. She died from a heart operation parts of her intestine would not wake up from the knock out medicine they use .. .. .. So tell her she is stuck with looking at you for another 10 years minimum .. .. .. And she had an ileum condom bladder bag for short for years .. .. ..
2 :
You haven't said how old she is. My great grandmother, didn't have an illness, but a few weeks before she died, she started giving her loved ones special items that belonged to her. She gave my mum her engagement ring. So, if your mum is old, she may know or feel that she is going to die soon, or as you have said, 5 or 6 years. The way I would look at it, if having breast cancer would affect how long she will live for, wouldn't be how much time has been taken off, but how much time has been put on by curing the cancer. =]
3 :
Breast cancer will only shorten a person's life if the cancer spreads to other parts of the body, typically the bones, liver, lungs or brain. If that happens it is not curable, although in many cases it can be managed , sometimes for years. I assume you would know if that was the case with your mother, as she would have almost certainly restarted treatment, possibly chemo. Even if it were the case, her doctors would not make such a prediction about her life expectancy. They wouldn't know how long she had, so nor would she. I was diagnosed with breast cancer four and a half years ago; my 10 year survival stats aren't great, and at times have depressed me. I think about the possibility of my cancer metastasing, but nowhere near as often as I did when only two years had passed since my diagnosis. For instance, when Britain won their bid for the 2012 Olympics, I said 'I doubt I'll be here', and I meant it. As the years pass I think about dying less and less but whenever the 2012 Olympics are discussed, I wonder if I'll be here and remind myself I may not. I tell you this because I think that may be the way your mother is thinking at the moment. As time passes she may think about it less but for now, like me, she makes comments like this to close and trusted family members.
4 :
I've not heard of that. No one knows when we are going to die and because she treated it, seems like she will be fine. I had breast cancer in 2006 and I'm doing fine. Hope this encourages you some?
5 :
I think your mother is indulging in a bit of drama. If she doesn't have metastases, then the breast cancer affects her lifespan only in that there is some possibility of recurrence. A sensible person would be more worried about their diabetes than having had breast cancer
