Hello I am not sure what you are really asking here? Are you fearing you have breast cancer that may have progressed and spread? Have you had a diagnosis of breast cancer? It depends on the type of cancer and the severity of it as to how quickly it can progress. As a nurse i have nown people have breast cancer for a few years and others that have become unwell quickly. If you do suspect you have breast cancer then see a GP asap. If you have been diagnosed then maybe ask to speak to a consultant or nurse that specialises in breast cancer. I wish you well xx

Baba, you don't have breast cancer. I'm sorry I didn't answer your email; for some reason I couldn't access my email account for a few days. But here's my reply: The chances of breast cancer at 17 are so close to zero that it makes almost no difference. Really, if a 17 year old had breast cancer her case would be written up in medical journals the world over; it would be of HUGE interest to the medical profession. Breast cancer is almost unheard of in under 25s(let alone teens); fewer than 0.1% of all those diagnosed with it are under 30, only 5% are under 40 and most (80%) are over 50. The average age at diagnosis is a little over 60. When I was first diagnosed, I was allocated to the breast care nurse whose special interest was 'breast cancer in younger women'; I was 50 years old. You're worried about a lump - you've asked a couple of other questions about it. Most breast lumps, even in women over 50, aren't breast cancer. Over 80% of breast lumps considered suspicious enough to be biopsied turn out to be benign. Breasts are pretty lumpy things anyway; and if you feel them with your fingers rather than the flat of your hand, you'll almost always find lumps. If you're still at school, talk to your school nurse; she will be used to girls having worries like this and will be able to reassure you that you don't have breast cancer. Or if you're still concerned, see your doctor for reassurance. In answer to your question, breast cancer develops over a long time - years, not months; by the time a lump can be found, it has been developing for some years
