Why is it so easy to forget prostate cancer awareness month, but not breast cancer awareness month

Why is it so easy to forget prostate cancer awareness month, but not breast cancer awareness month?
When is prostate cancer awareness month? What did you do? (did you donate, wear a ribbon, etc). What are you doing in recognition of breast cancer awareness month?

Well, for me, it is because my grandmother and my mother died of breast cancer. I can't speak for anyone else, and I will not try to. EDIT: I knew coming in here that people can be very insensitive, but I had no idea that I would get thumbs down for my grandma and my mom dying of cancer. Excuse me.
2 :
The whole thing is political my friend. If there isn't enough money to push it through the political gauntlet, it's just not going to happen. One of the main reasons that breast cancer awareness is so successful is because it attracts a lot of rich donors. Celebrities get involved in walks/runs for its awareness. It's much like a business and it requires lots of publicity. Prostate cancer is in its political infancy in comparison to breast cancer. It needs money, publicity and celebrity support.
3 :
Sorry, I forgot about both.
4 :
Uh, it's hard to tell which next illness the pharmaceutical industry and its nonprofit affiliates plans to commercialize. The "breast-cancer awareness" campaigns and "buy these things with the pink ribbon" are idiotic. Eighty percent of the money goes to some dum.b.a.ss company, and the tiny bit left goes to research. If you're going to donate, donate it ALL to the nonprofit. Don't buy some crap you don't need that was made in some sweatshop in China. _________ P.S. I'm not certain, but I believe that statistically more women die from breast cancer than men from prostate cancer. I might be wrong. Women are also generally paid less for their work and pay MORE for insurance policies. There are health-care disparities. I'm wondering why there isn't some bigger campaign about the FDA recently approving the HPV vaccine for men. Perhaps - total, total guess - it's because men feel they're not responsible for reproductive health, even though they basically carry HPV and spread it around and it's never caught because men aren't routinely tested for HPV like women are through the PAP smear. __________ P.P.S. I was right, though, about deaths from the diagnoses. prostate cancer deaths: 27,400 breast cancer deaths: 40,000 Via Google.
5 :
both cancers are complete BS, why are we focusing on these two? skin cancer is the most common type of cancer in the world, and brain cancer is the most lethal. so why don't we concentrate our money on those two?
6 :
There you remembered it already. Happy! Next
7 :
They are both high in importance, where did you get this statement from?
8 :
Because media and industry realizes that women are far more communal and ignorant with their money than are men, and are thus greater marketing targets. - If you think either cause truly has much to do with 'saving lives' or 'helping people' then you are mistaken. As with most ventures, this is largely about making money.
9 :
My grandmother and two of my aunts died of breast cancer. Any bias on my part is partially in memoriam and partially out of fear that I'll have it myself one day.
10 :
Well, I agree with you. Men are forgettable human beings while women are the "more important" gender..
11 :
This is a good question. Both are equally important and equally deadly. I am remembering breast cancer everyday because my grandmother passed away from it about 25 years ago

My mamogram showed a clustered pleomorphic calcifications in the right breast. Is this is bad? Breast cancer ?
I have a family history of breast cancer and would like to know if this is bad? I have to go for a biopsy on 1/13/09 and am very concerned.

They are probably just lopsided :-/
2 :
It could be benign or malignant...no one will know until the biopsy comes back. Pleomorphic calcifications are more likely to be of a cancerous origin, but this doesn't mean everyone that gets these results on their mamo has cancer. Relax. Stress is the last thing you need right now. Wait for the biopsy results before you panic, and if it's something you weren't expecting it's still okay, with the science and technology today, they can attack virtually anything. Good Luck.
3 :
any time you hear pleomorphic, that is not a great sign, but it does not guarantee cancer either, it could mean abnormal cells that are not cancer which could be benign or it could also be pre-cancer. how large is this mass? many times tumors less than 1cm and up to 2cm are easily treatable and can be resected. even if it does turn out to be breast cancer it is not the guaranteed gloom and doom it once was, now with modern advances and treatment regimens, people are seeing cure rates up to 89% with this disease. best wishes to you and I hope this helps.
4 :
Polymorphic calcifications happen to be cancer in 30-40% of the patients. These calcifications are mostly the sign of in-situ cancers which mean that they are not invasive and can be totally cured

What does the pink ribbons associated with breast cancer represent?
when did the wearing of pikn ribbos for breast cancer get started and why

Not sure when but it's 4 Breast Cancer that's why we all wear Pink & I'm a Survivor 4 1/2yrs Cancer Free
3 :
This is just a form of Symbol. No True meaning.
4 :
Awareness ribbons are short pieces of ribbon folded into a loop, or representations thereof. They are used in the United States and Canada as a way for the wearer to make a subtle statement of support for a cause or issue. Some ribbons (such as the red HIV/AIDS ribbon) have also received broader international recognition. Such ribbons are pinned on a person's lapel or other part of clothing, or tied around an object, or represented on a sticker or magnet, often displayed on a vehicle. Perhaps the earliest use of awareness ribbons, a use that predates that phrase, is the yellow ribbon popularized in American music by songs that American Folklife Center research dates back to at least 1917, in a song by George A. Norton called "Round Her Neck She Wears a Yeller Ribbon (For her Lover Who Is Far, Far Away)." More recent high-profile examples include She Wore a Yellow Ribbon (a 1949 film starring John Wayne and Joanne Dru) and the 1972 song "Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Ole Oak Tree" made famous by Tony Orlando and Dawn in the 1970s. Awareness ribbons serve similar purposes to the more recently introduced custom of wearing silicone wristbands, such as the Livestrong wristband. Some have criticized the proliferation of 'Awareness Ribbons' as a form of slacktivism, i.e. allowing people to 'show support' without making an effort in time or money.
5 :
The ribbon "symbol" thingy started with the AIDs crisis. The Persian Gulf War a yellow one was created. The Breast cancer thing took on the pink because pink is a feminie color.
6 :
Pink typically symbolizes a girl. Did you know that there are new ribbons out now that fade into blue on one end. This is to increase the awarness of breast cancer in men also

What are the colors of ribbons major charites use and why isn't there one for male breast cancer?
Pink is the official color for Breast cancer in women, what color is it for men? Yes breast cancer in men is a rare occurance.

Pink is just the official color for Breast Cancer awareness, it is not gender specific. Purple is the color for stopping child abuse.
2 :
Male breast cancer is not as common as other diseases.
3 :
breast cancer is breast cancer whether it is in a male or female. It os pretty rare in males, so I imagine, they probably have not made a ribbon color for it. Green is for organ and tissue donation. Black is for POAMIA. yellow is to support out troops and I had a purple one on the back of my car for domestic violence support.
4 :
pink is for breast cancer, regardless of man or woman. yes, it's mainly women but 1-2% of all breast cancer is in men.
5 :
Childhood cancer is Gold.
6 :
The pink ribbon is the same ribbon for any breast cancer. They get the same kinds women get.
7 :
Pink is for all breast cancer. Here are some others: Teal - Ovarian Cancer Clear - Lung Cancer Purple - Pancreatic Cancer Purple - Leiomyosarcoma Orange - Leukemia Black - Melanoma Dark Blue - Colon Cancer Burgundy - Multiple Myeloma Grey - Brain Cancer Blue - Prostate Cancer Gold - Childhood Cancers Lavender - General cancer Awareness Lime Green - Lymphoma Peach - Uterine Cancer Kelly Green - Kidney cancer Yellow - Sarcoma/Bone Cancer Yellow - Bladder Cancer Teal/White - Cervical Cancer Burgundy/Ivory - Head and Neck Cancer Emerald Green - Liver Cancer Periwinkle Blue - Esophageal Cancer Source: http://www.choosehope.com/
8 :
I dont know the colors but, there is not an abundance of male breast cancer as there is in women, but, yes I agree with you, Male breast cancer does happen..... I met a gentlemen that had it at one of the local Relay For Life events that the American Cancer Society holds every year.
9 :
There isn't another color for male breast cancer because breast cancer is breast cancer whether it is in a man or a woman. This question is like asking why there aren't two different colors for supporting our male and female troops.
10 :
Only 1% of males get BC I don't think they care what color the ribbon is

What and how bad is stage 1 breast cancer

What and how bad is stage 1 breast cancer?
My mom just got her results back and she has stage 1 breast cancer.. What does that mean and how bad is it (for me to know)
Cancer - 13 Answers

1 :
This is a very early stage of breast cancer. The cancer hasn't spread beyond the breast at all. So you have a number of good treatments to choose from. The eight-year survival rate for women with stage I breast cancer is about 90%. Stage I: Your cancer is less than 1 inch across (2 centimeters) or about the size of a quarter. The cancer is only in the breast and has not spread to lymph nodes or other parts of your body.
2 :
I had stage 1 Breast Cancer also. And because it did not spread to the lymph nodes under my arm, I only endured 6 weeks of Radiation treatments after the surgery. I am now cancer free and am crossing my fingers. They have put me on 20 MG of Tamoxifen. It is good that she has stage 1 and that it hadn't progressed any further. She will be fine.
3 :
Hopefully if my thoughts are correct, your mum is a VERY STRONG lady, Heck look in the mirror Storm Bandit, that is one of the strongest women I know, and if it's your mum she just has to be as strong if not stronger than The Storm Bandit! If this is all true I feel deep in my heart the she will overcome this! She will be in my prayers, right with Princess P.J.! Keep your head up my friend, The KING is here if you need me! (((BIG HUGZ)))
4 :
Stage 1 is an early stage, so with treatment she'll be okay. The cancer hasn't spread yet so you have that on your side. My grandma made it through breast cancer when she was around 70. she's perfectly fine now. your mom will be ok! just keep thinking positive!
5 :
im so sorry to hear that Storm .ill keep you and your mom in my prayers
6 :
i'm in the same boat as your are storm. your mom is going to need you and her family. help her, and check up on her often. i'll pray for you and your mom. my mom has stage 3 which is really bad. stage 4 is worse. so stage 1 might be able to cure with little to no side effects.
7 :
these may help.
8 :
I'm sorry to hear about your mother's diagnosis. Nobody can give you any guarantees or promise you that she will be ok, but the outlook for stage ! breast cancer is very good indeed The severity of a case of breast cancer is categorised into one of four stages. As others have explained, stage one means that the tumour is small (up to 2 cms) and no lymph nodes are involved. Five year survival rates are almost 100%. Survival rates for breast cancer have never been higher. I was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer almost 7 years ago; following treatment I am well and pretty fit, with no sign of cancer. Your mother, and you, may find these sites helpful; not only do they have loads of information about breast cancer and professionals of whom you can ask questions, but on th forums you can talk to people who are going or have been through exactly what you're going through. I actually don't know how I would have got through those dark days following diagnosis without online support forums: http://www.breastcancer.org http://www.breastcancercare.org.uk My best wishes to your mum - and to you, it's hard to see someone you love go through this Edit - sorry, I typed the second link wrongly; have now corrected it
9 :
You have got some pretty good support. The doctors can treat the cancer and prevent it from recurring. Your mom has to have positive thoughts about beating this and to staying strong. The surgery and the post -op treatments are just a part of the total package. Continue to give her positive support and encouragement. Optimism is so important. There is no room for questioning the abilities of the doctors or the failure rate of the radiation and chemotherapy treatments. You know that I am here for you and I have been where you stand now. You and your mom will be in my prayers.
10 :
Stage 1 has survival rates of greater then 90%. With proper treatment maybe 99%.
11 :
Have a friend who had breast cancer, stage 1 she's all fat and sassy now. Good thoughts to your Mom.
12 :
Stage 1 is the first of the following stages in which breast cancer becomes invasive and damages surrounding tissue. At this early stage, tumors are small (less than 2cm across) and the cancer has not spread to other parts of the body. Under the arms, the lymph nodes do not have cancer cells. In later stage breast cancer, the lymph nodes are one of the first areas of the body outside the breast to be affected by breast cancer. The prognosis for stage 1 breast cancer is often good providing treatment is given early on. Stage 1 breast cancer survival rates are high. Studies of breast cancer patients followed up to five years after treatment show approximately 98% of women surviving stage 1 breast cancer. These women usually live much longer than 5 years and enjoy a full life.
13 :
I was caught at stage 1.4 chemo treatments 6 weeks radiation, cancer free.Mammogram every 6 months to begin with 1 little pill everyday for 5 years, feel great. our medical technology is amazing these days and times.Your Mom will do well.Best wishes. My wonderful surgeon said if I had to have a cancer this one was very very curable

You cant know just by feeling a lump you need to get it checked by doctors..
2 :
That's completely normal. Your questions say you're in 8th grade; I'm guessing that means about 13 years old (I'm not American). At your age the chances of breast cancer are so close to zero that it makes almost no difference. The chances of it occurring in both breasts are even lower. Breast cancer is almost unheard of in under 25s and fewer than 0.1% of all those diagnosed with it are under 30. When I was diagnosed with breast cancer I was classed as a 'younger woman'; I was 50. Breast cancer is a disease of older adult women. Put it out of your mind. ============ EDIT: It is not recommended to check your breasts at your age; it will tell you nothing and worry you unnecessarily. The American Cancer Society and other cancer organisations recommend that women begin breast self examination at no younger than 20, if then. Before that it's pointless; firstly because there are so many hormonal changes that there is no 'normal' - and self examination is about a woman knowing what's normal for her and reporting any changes. And secondly because the chance of breast cancer is almost nil.
3 :
It is good that your a doing a monthly self exam of your breasts. This is an excellent habit. I seriously doubt that you have breast cancer, but getting to know the normal feel of your breast will help you identify changes in the future. Most cancers are identified through a biopsy.
4 :
I also have issue with breast cancer. I posted my problems on wish123 and got an excellent advise from an expert. I highly recommend the website

Is it true that breast cancer is related to abortion

Is it true that breast cancer is related to abortion?
If you have an abortion you're at a higher risk for breast cancer? Is this true? or do websites just say that to scare you?
Women's Health - 4 Answers

1 :
no, it has never been proven. but, abortions are terrible. it's your mistake, not the childs.
2 :
No, it's anti-choice propaganda.
3 :
Women who have never had children and those who had children but did not breast feed them are at higher risk than those who had babies and breast fed. I don't know about the abortion part, but there are lots of good reasons NOT to have an abortion and IF people were more responsible and used birth control in the first place abortion would NOT be so common. Abortion complications include infection and perforation of the uterus leading to hysterectomy and NO children in the future. Also, guilt and other psychological problems.
4 :
pro-lifers love to say it all the time, but it's completely not true

probably her hormones.. ask the doctor next time she goes..
2 :
She's either eating out of stress or because of chemo. Is she on chemotherapy?
3 :
She's both unusual and very lucky if she feels hungry while suffering from breast cancer. Cancer and cancer treatments often kill the appetite. She needs all the extra energy and nutrition she can get right now while she fights the cancer. Good luck to both of you.
4 :
I have breast cancer and am taking chemo presently. Right after I take my treatment, everything tastes like a vat of lard...and that lasts for about a week. When my taste buds come back after that week, I am so hungry - I'm always eating. But, that's good because you have to take the good days when you get them and if it means eating a lot of food - oh well! I think my hunger is from the steroids. The increase your appetite and they give me steroids to counteract the chemo. So, my overly active appetite will probably go away when I finish my chemo (which is 25 days away now!!!!). Let your mom eat - simple pleasures. Good luck.
5 :
one reason could be if she has to be on steroids. I have cancer and have to take them and they make me hungry and my face get fat.
6 :
Breast cancer in itself should have no real impact on appetite. Breast cancer treatment can and does. Some treatments cause nausea and lessen the appetite, some just make food taste bad/wrong so reduce the appetite, others such as steroids increase the appetite.
7 :
Breast cancer itself doesn't cause an increase in (or loss of) appetite. If she's undergoing chemotherapy, the steroids given with the anti nausea meds are very likely to increase appetite. Apart form the first week after my first chemotherapy treatment, I had the appetite of a horse, and craved bland carbohydrate. I put on over 30 pounds during chemotherapy for breast cancer; most people I know who have had chemo put on weight.
8 :
Early stage breast cancer would have little no affect on the appetite in most cases. The treatments for breast cancer can often reduce appetite though.
9 :
Steroids tend to make the patient hungry, so perhaps it's because of that. It should go away once she finishes Chemo. I hope your mother get's better

What are the signs of breast cancer

What are the signs of breast cancer?
So today I took a shower and found a small pinkish-redish circle on one of my breast and also one on my other. I thought "Oh God is this breast cancer?" So after I came out I searched it up and some symptoms are Skin irritation or dimpling, and Redness, scaliness, or thickening of the nipple or breast skin. So do I have breast cancer? Or did I interpret it wrong? Please help me. Also I worked out two days ago so would that affect me in anyway or do I have breast cancer?

There is no way to tell you if you do or don't have it with out a biopsy result. You should call your doctor and have them give you a breast exam and a mammorgram for safe measure. DO NOT just settle for the breast exam. Ask them to give you at the very least a mammogram.
2 :
it hearts
3 :
As I said in reply to your other, similar question: a) what you describe are not symptoms of breast cancer b) at 14 your chances of having breast cancer are just about zero Someone has said you should insist on a mammogram; no doctor would order a mammogram on someone your age. Do as I suggested in my other answer and talk to your mother or your school nurse for reassurance.

Breast Cancer Facts Breast cancer is one of the most commonly found cancer form in women and early treatment can assure greater survival rate. Let us look at some Breast Cancer Facts to find out more information regarding its diagnosis, symptoms and treatment. Enlarge Image Breast cancer is one of the most frequently met forms of cancer in the case of women, which usually occupies a second place in recent statistics, after skin cancer. Taking into account the actual life expectancy, it was determined that approximately one woman out of nine will suffer from breast cancer. The cause and the treatment of this disease have not been identified yet, but, if it is detected in an early phase of its evolution, it can be treated with very good results by conservative surgery of the breast, followed by radio therapy. This treatment of cancer, detected in an early phase, assures a 97% survival rate of five years. Diagnosis What do you have to do in order to detect breast cancer in an early phase? 1. Clinical exam of the breast: women with the age between 20 and 40 years should benefit of this exam as part of the general control of their health condition, preferably once in three years. Women older than 40 years must be examined by a specialist once a year. 2. Mammography: It is a radiological exam of the breast, with very small doses of X rays. Women, which are older than 40, should benefit from a mammography every year. If you notice something suspect at your breast, or you have in you family cases of breast cancer, go to your physician and establish together the moment when you should start doing this investigation. Even if some cancers can't be detected by the mammography, this still remains an excellent method of diagnosis. 3. The auto examination of the breast: This method of an early detection of breast cancer is very important. In order to obtain the best results you must perform it 10 days after the menstruation. If your period is not regular, you ma perform the auto examination in the same day of the month. There are sites on the internet where you may find auto examination techniques and other useful information related to this subject. Which are the factors involved in the genesis of breast cancer? Risk factors : sex, age, genetic risk, family history, personal breast cancer history race, radiological examinations at an early age, biopsies, normal substitution therapy, alcohol consumption, obesity. Protection factors: nursing, physical exercise, a balanced diet. Signs and symptoms which might suggest breast caner: 1. Axillary's tumor mass, or a tumor mass located in the breast or next to it. If it is not painful, hard, with irregular edges, adherent to the tissues around, there is a high probability to be cancerous. 2. A denser area of the breast compared to those around it. 3. Changing of the breast shape or size. 4. Wrinkles, depressions, or red breast skin. 5. Pains in the mammilla or a depression in it. 6. Any secretion, different from milk. If any of these signs appear, go immediately to a doctor specialized in this disease. Not any change you feel in your breast mean cancer, 80 % of the inflammations are benign, but it would be the best thing for you to be seen by a doctor, who will indicate the investigations you need. Remember: 1. Breast cancer may appear t any age, but it is more possible if you are older. 2. The risk to get breast cancer at the age of 70 is double compared to the age of 50. 3. More than 70% of the women suffered from breast cancer didn't have any other person in the family suffering from this disease. 4. An early diagnostic means better chances of survival. 5. Mammography is a sure and efficient instrument for detecting breast cancer even before it could be felt. Annual examination by an expert and auto examination every month are extremely important, too. Frequency The frequency of breast cancer grows continuously in developed countries (especially in Occidental Europe and in North America, less in Japan). Every year, breast cancer is responsible of 77,000 deceases in Europe, out of which 40 % in the case of women under 65. The incidence of this cancer, which means the number of new cases during a year, grows, but mortality reached a plateau level, which makes us notice that chances of survival are growing. Risk factors Risk factors are known for a long time and they are: 1. Personal: early menstruation, absence of birth, a late first pregnancy (after the age 35), late menopause. 2. Inherited or Genetical: breast cancer antecedents in the case of closely related members of the family, suggesting the presence of genetic factors. Apart from these factors, age is also a risk factor 7% of breast cancers affects women 40, and this percent grows with age: 18% in the case of 40-50 years, 32% in the case of 50-60 years and 43% in the case of women over 65 years. I heard a ten year old girl in California was diagnosed with breast cancer is that true

I heard a ten year old girl in California was diagnosed with breast cancer is that true?
If so, would our advice here need to change? Usually there are a ton of teenagers concerned about their breasts and the possibility of them having breast cancer. Those of us on here for a long time have usually said it was something else, or that they were too young to be concerned about such a terrible disease. Do we need to change our advice? It does not seem right that a girl so young should be diagnosed with breast cancer....agree?
Cancer - 6 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
yes a ten year old girl was diagnosed with breast cancer, however, it was an EXTREMELY RARE form of breast cancer. 99.99% of young girls are never going to have to worry about this.
2 :
Agree! My best to this child.
3 :
It's not right that she should be diagnosed with it, which is why it's big news. It's very, very rare, in particular, because this is an "adult" form of breast cancer. IMO, our advice shouldn't change. First of all, the chances of someone else getting this are beyond rare. Second, the best thing we can do is have regular breast exams, and that would have been my advice before I heard this tragic news story.
4 :
It was not an "adult" form of cancer that this little girl got, but secretory cancer, which is uncommon but more likely to occur in children. The initial report was that it was invasive, but this was later corrected after tests were completed. It is still a one in a million chance for someone under 20 to get breast cancer. I would not change my advice to children.
5 :
I too am not going to change the advice I give to girls worried that they have breast cancer. This case made headlines worldwide because of its EXTREME rarity. So long as we always recommend that girls who are concerned talk to their mothers or to their school nurse, we should continue to point out that someone under the age of 20 has more chance of being struck by lightning than of developing breast cancer, and that fewer than 0.1% of all those diagnosed with breast cancer are under 30 and only 5% under 40. We HAVE to counter the 'advice' from those who know nothing about breast cancer but come on here to say 'you can get breast cancer at any age' etc. And the best way to counter it is with facts and statistics. Otherwise the dozens of young girls who post on here every week, terrified by normal hormonal development, will have nobody to calm them down and explain how exteremely unlikely it is that their 'symptoms' are anything sinister
6 :
Hi dave hope you ane wife are well this is the trouble with geting medical advice from peolpe on answers my advise to any one worred is go see a doctor not at your age you cant have it take care

you should look this question up on google
2 :
a lump will feel hard, and out of place. if you ever have one [God forbid] you will know. if you ever find a lump, it doesnt necessarily mean cancer. it could just be a malignant lump that formed there because of various reasons. the only person who can tell you if its cancer or not is an oncologist

Does wearing a bra at night give you breast cancer

Does wearing a bra at night give you breast cancer?
I heard that wearing a bra while you sleep over a period of time gives you breast cancer. Is this true?
Women's Health - 10 Answers

That's ridiculous. Wearing a bra, night or day, is for comfort and has nothing to do with cancer.
2 :
I've never heard that but it sounds pretty crazy.. I was told when I was younger it would make your breasts smaller but who knows if thats true or not either
3 :
no but it does compress your breasts unnaturally and particularly the lymph nodes beneath your breasts which could create health problems later on. stop wearing a bra at night!
4 :
No! Cancer is started inside the breast, not by simply wearing a bra! If it did, I don't think women would be wearing them!
5 :
i never heard of that but it cuts your blood circulation sleeping bra less is much better more comfortable and if you must wear one try the sports bras might be more comfortable
6 :
Not a s far as I know =)
7 :
no it doesnt give u breast cancer it just stops ur boobs from growing so if u want ur boobs to keep growing then stop wearing a bra at nite

No...

What is the risk factor for twins if one twin has breast cancer? What is the best way to check if the other

What is the risk factor for twins if one twin has breast cancer? What is the best way to check if the other?
twin also has breast cancer even starting, as the first one had aggressive breast cancer?

If the gene found to cause cancer is present, she has a high perecentage risk, about 40% I believe.
2 :
Breast caner is genetic. So the risk for the other twin is high. She needs to make sure she does her self breast check and if a lump if found to question it. It may be nothing but it is better to be safe than sorry. She will also need to get a mammogram earlier than most. Good luck

Is breast cancer the only type of cancer now

Is breast cancer the only type of cancer now?
Every f***ing time I see anything about cancer on TV it's breast cancer. I guess they cured all the other forms of cancer and only breast cancer is left?

That's exactly it. You should watch more TV and make some more conclusions.
2 :
It's breast cancer awareness month!
3 :
Apparently, you have not researched the topic thoroughly nor paid attention to the news reports. Common types of CANCER still COMMON and SERIOUS PROBLEMS: Skin cancer Prostate cancer Brain tumors Stomach cancer Ovarian cancer Pancreatic cancer Lung cancer Leukemia Colon cancer
4 :
Nobody finds your wit and sarcasm funny or amusing..
5 :
So true!!!! I've been saying the same thing on it. Breast cancer is a cancer that is focused on WOMEN (less the 0.01% of men get breast cancer) Breast cancer is the 5th biggest cancer....what about the others? Skin, brain, nothing....it is supported by women, because it affects women. If we pushed the same agenda for men, we would be considered sexist. I donate to cancers that affect BOTH genders EQUALLY. However, with all this breast cancer being shoved in our face, I will now only donate a majority to prostate cancer, and another cancers that affect people EQUALLY!
6 :
Well it's Breast Cancer Awareness month right now, so breast cancer has a higher profile than usual. However, it's true that it normally does have a higher profile than other cancers, and there's a simple reason for that - sheer hard work. People who campaign around illnesses are usually concerned with the illness that's affected them or their family. I know a couple who have a child with a very rare and life-threatening condition (not a cancer). Much of their time is now taken up with campaigning around this condition - fundraising and agitating for more funding for research, more education, more awareness etc. Individuals don't have unlimited time, and choose their campaigns. Similarly, breast cancer awareness campaigns and Breast Cancer Awareness Month were started by ordinary women, most of them with breast cancer or who had lost family members to breast cancer, to raise awareness so that people knew the symptoms, examined themselves regularly, attended their routine mammograms etc. Enthusiastic participation and hard work by women made it grow into something nationally, then internationally, recognised, and it caught the public imagination (and then big business cashed in, but that's another story). It's thanks to the hard work of those women that breast cancer is no longer the major killer and the automatic death sentence it used to be - but we shouldn't lose sight of the fact that in the US alone an average of 112 women die from breast cancer every day. That's one every 15 minutes. There are other cancer awareness months, ribbons etc; but no cancer campaign has had the sheer hard work put into it that breast cancer awareness has. Any group of people can start an awareness campaign for any illness - you could do it if you feel so strongly - but if they want it to be as successful as the breast cancer campaigning, they'll have to be prepared to be as dedicated and work as hard.
7 :
lol. or go to grocery store. its on detergent, cereal Boxes, & just about everything else. i wish childhood cancer would get more awareness. 12,400 kids are diagnosed a year. cancer is leading death in kids after accidents. but nobody talks about that. plus you never hear anything about lung, pancreatic, melanoma, etc. did it bother you that the white house had pink lights all over it in support of breast cancer awareness yet they don't make the white house any other color for any other fundraiser.
8 :
Breast cancer rates dropped by half in tandem with the discontinuation of hormone replacement therapy, according to a study published online in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute. The study was reported in the Telegraph in the United Kingdom. Dr De wrote: 'The results support the hypothesised link between the use of hormone replacement therapy and invasive breast cancer incidence and indicate that the sharp decline in breast cancer incidence in 2002 is likely explained by the concurrent decline in the use of hormone replacement therapy among Canadian women

My mom found out today that she has breast cancer. Can anyone tell me some positive words about it

My mom found out today that she has breast cancer. Can anyone tell me some positive words about it?
I am really upset. I feel like it is a death sentence for her. Can anyone tell me some good things about it breast cancer? Pray that she will be fine. Thank you all for the positive words. Just to let you know, she has stage 2 breast cancer, and the tumor is 2 cemtimeters

It is not a death sentence. My FATHER Had Breast Cancer, and that was 13 years ago. He is a survivor. There are MANY Survivors. And I hope to be one myself. I was just diagnosed with Breast Cancer, Stage 1. My surgery is on Monday and I'm scared to death. But I refuse to let it kick me down. Being positive helps.
2 :
Our mom has breast cancer 25 years ago she is doing fine. Your family has to have strong support for your mom. The medicines they use today are so different then what they used 25 years ago. Hope this helps.
3 :
Hold ur head up god won't put stuff on you that he didn't think you can handle god answers a lot of prayers and you and your family will be in our prayers

Nobody can make you any promises; it's no use pretending nobody dies of breast cancer - they do. But breast cancer is no longer an automatic death sentence by any means; survival rates are higher than ever before, and if it's caught early the prognosis can be excellent. I was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer over six years ago; I had surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and hormone therapy. I am fit and well with no sign of cancer at my last check up. I know many people through breast cancer support networks for whom it is as long or longer since their diagnosis, one for whom it is over 20 years. The treatment that will be recommended for your mum will depend on factors such as the stage and grade of her particular cancer. This will be hard for you too; I have had cancer and I've watched people I love (including my mother) go through it - and the latter can sometimes be harder than the former. My best wishes to your mother, and to you ChemoAngel, best wishes for Monday, I'll be thinking of you. ============= Just in response to another answer: I had been a vegan for over 8 years when I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I still am a vegan, but I'd be foolish to rely on that fact to prevent recurrence. There is no evidence that diet and breast cancer are linked. And though a positive attitude won't hurt, there's also no evidence that it will help., and neither of you should allow yourself to feel any pressure to 'stay positive'. I found that being urged to stay positive made me feel worse, because I just couldn't. See my answer to this question http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AjUMEwErd4SQSZj69DsLAj3ty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20100311060607AAuBHKO&show=7#profile-info-xAqR8NL9aa

6 :
Yes 50% of women who have lumps in their breasts do not get cancer, yet the doctor will still treat them as cancer. Buy your mum this book and she will be free of cancer naturally. Learn the facts that are kept from you. "Cancer, why we're still dying to know the truth" by Phillip Day.
7 :
Tell her she'll get through it as long as she keeps a positive mind. Don't think about how people die from it - think about how people survive and how it makes them stronger getting through it. You being upset won't help your mother - just puts more stress on her. It's important you keep a positive mind too. I heard diet can help breast cancer, even though I've never had it i heard vegan diets help. and I'm not just saying that because I'm vegan, I've heard many stories about going vegan help a lot of things. Remember, positive mind - Make sure she keeps a good diet - Make her life less stressful : ) Good luck <3 I know you'll get through it.

Is the family history someone close, like her own mother? Was she tested for the gene? Does she get regular mammograms? Was the earlier lump benign? How old is she now? My mom had benign lumps removed from her breast when I was about 14. She didn't get regular mammograms. When she felt another lump in 1999, she assumed it was another cyst and ignored it. Two years later she died of breast cancer, because she didn't take care of herself. If your mom has done everything she should do, she will be fine whether it is cancer or not. When found early there is a 97% cure rate. That is what makes my mom's story so sad. She could still be alive if only she had gotten her mammograms. If it does turn out to be cancer, be there for her. It is devastating to get that diagnosis, even if the prognosis is good. Go with her to the doctor, so you know what to expect and can help her. Most people stop listening after the words "you have cancer
