I found a lump on my left breast but i'm not sure if it's cancer (i hope it's not)....but i'm making an appointment with the doctor to get it checked out. It doesn't hurt or anything. This lump looks like a bruise & it keeps getting darker. I also found a long strand of blonde hair near the area. I'm not blonde but this made me scared :/ Are there any other things i should look out for? I already asked this question before but didn't get enough answers. Peace xx

You don't give your age, which is an extremely important factor in considering the possibility of breast cancer. If it looks like a bruise, it's almost certainly a bruise. Bruising or bruise-like marks is not a symptom of breast cancer. Breast cancer is mainly a disease of ageing, with 80% of those diagnosed being over 50; the average age at diagnosis is a little over 60. Only 5% of those diagnosed are under 40, fewer than 0.1% are under 30 and it's almost unheard of in under 25s. Most breast lumps, even in women over 50, aren't cancer; 80% of breast lumps considered suspicious enough for testing are found to be benign.

I was diagnoised with breast cancer on March 16, 2010. I found my own lump. I had no hair growth to report, I had pain athough, it was a small lump. I did not have any brusing or discoloration of the skin. Hope that helps. Just go to the doctor - early detection is very important if it is something significant. Good luck.

Usually pain free at first and usually in women over 40. It takes a long time of too much estrogen to make a place for it to grow and a trauma to depress your immune system to allow it. Long term breastfeeding or nipple stimulation prevents it as the hormone prolactin counter acts estrogen. Good luck
