Is there a connection between abortion & breast cancer

Is there a connection between abortion & breast cancer?
I read an article this past weekend about some kind of connection between 1st trimester abortions and breast cancer. Is this true? Has anyone heard of something similar to this? The article in whole was talking about a certain group of people who were for extreme population control. It was very interesting but I don't know how much to believe of it.

This is an urban legend. There are no scientific studies to prove this. Only studies from people that have an agenda. My daughter-in-law works in cancer studies all around the world.

no, not true

Ah! you seem to be good at finding connections......but sorry, there is no connection between abortion & breast cancer.
4 :
more than likely it's pro-life fuckers trying to scare you out of having abortions.
5 :
There is no link whatsoever between the two.

Population control should be about preventing unwanted pregnancy not abortion. I am pro choice but I believe in prevention first and foremost. As far as a link to breast cancer that is wrong. Or at least not a proven fact.

No, there isn't a cause-and-effect correlation. Instead, earlier studies reported that women who don't have children are a little more likely to get breast cancer. A woman who has an abortion can't have that child, so right-to-lifers claim abortion causes breast cancer. More recent studies argue against a link, and say studies positing such a link are unreliable: "A major new study on the relationship between abortion and breast cancer suggests that pregnancies ending in abortion do not increase a woman's risk of developing breast cancer. . . . Researchers say previous studies that suggested having an abortion slightly increases a woman's risk of breast cancer were flawed because they were based on women reporting having had an abortion after a diagnosis of breast cancer, known as a retrospective study." -- http://www.webmd.com/news/20040325/study-dispels-abortion-breast-cancer-link "The likelihood that women who have breast cancer will give a more complete account of their abortions than women who do not have breast cancer is called "recall bias," and it can seriously undermine the accuracy of study results. . . . The topic of abortion and breast cancer highlights many of the most challenging aspects of studies of human populations and how those studies do or do not translate into public health guidelines. The issue of abortion generates passionate viewpoints among many people. Breast cancer is the most common cancer, and is the second leading cancer killer in women. Still, the public is not well-served by false alarms and at the present time, the scientific evidence does not support a causal association between induced abortion and breast cancer." -- http://www.cancer.org/docroot/CRI/content/CRI_2_6x_Can_Having_an_Abortion_Cause_or_Contribute_to_Breast_Cancer.asp There are a lot of websites out there that say there's a direct connection, but they are usually biased. Having an abortion shouldn't be taken lightly, but the risk of breast cancer shouldn't be a factor for a woman trying to decide whether or not to have one.

No there isn't. The anti-abortion movement has sought unsuccessfully to prove that there's a link. For example, 'The Breast Cancer Epidemic', a study conducted by the London based Pension and Population Research Institute takes data from 8 Euripean countries and purports to establish that there are 7 risk factors, of which abortion is the most reliable predictor of breast cancer. The study is seriously flawed, for example it finds an increase in abortion and breast cancer in some countries, but offers no data to suggest this is among the same women (ie there was in increase in both, but no evidence that the women who'd had abortions were the same women who developed breast cancer). And the study was funded by the anti-choice group, Life. A link between abortion and breast cancer is a myth; junk science and propaganda from the anti-choice lobby. The broad scientific consensus is that no such link exists. This excellent article gives the facts: http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m1374/is_2_62/ai_83794478

there is a lot of myths on what causes cancer. no, not bras, no not deodorant, no not abortions, no not cigarette's. alot of things can contribute to cancer, but cancer is caused by the mutation of abnormal cell growth.

No, there is not.

I don't believe that the 2 have anything to do with each other. I think it is a myth. I think that we need to visit the dr and do self exams and stay a s educated as possible. I really hope that they can find a cure someday soon. My father is a cancer survivor and we participate in our Relay For Life. It is an extraordinary fundraising event sponsored by the American Cancer Society. I was so proud watching my father walk in the survivor lap. Words cannot describe it. I found an article that you may be interested in about breast cancer. Take care
