It is not a death sentence. My FATHER Had Breast Cancer, and that was 13 years ago. He is a survivor. There are MANY Survivors. And I hope to be one myself. I was just diagnosed with Breast Cancer, Stage 1. My surgery is on Monday and I'm scared to death. But I refuse to let it kick me down. Being positive helps.

Our mom has breast cancer 25 years ago she is doing fine. Your family has to have strong support for your mom. The medicines they use today are so different then what they used 25 years ago. Hope this helps.

Nobody can make you any promises; it's no use pretending nobody dies of breast cancer - they do. But breast cancer is no longer an automatic death sentence by any means; survival rates are higher than ever before, and if it's caught early the prognosis can be excellent. I was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer over six years ago; I had surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and hormone therapy. I am fit and well with no sign of cancer at my last check up. I know many people through breast cancer support networks for whom it is as long or longer since their diagnosis, one for whom it is over 20 years. The treatment that will be recommended for your mum will depend on factors such as the stage and grade of her particular cancer. This will be hard for you too; I have had cancer and I've watched people I love (including my mother) go through it - and the latter can sometimes be harder than the former. My best wishes to your mother, and to you ChemoAngel, best wishes for Monday, I'll be thinking of you. ============= Just in response to another answer: I had been a vegan for over 8 years when I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I still am a vegan, but I'd be foolish to rely on that fact to prevent recurrence. There is no evidence that diet and breast cancer are linked. And though a positive attitude won't hurt, there's also no evidence that it will help., and neither of you should allow yourself to feel any pressure to 'stay positive'. I found that being urged to stay positive made me feel worse, because I just couldn't. Yes 50% of women who have lumps in their breasts do not get cancer, yet the doctor will still treat them as cancer. Buy your mum this book and she will be free of cancer naturally. Learn the facts that are kept from you. "Cancer, why we're still dying to know the truth" by Phillip Day.

Tell her she'll get through it as long as she keeps a positive mind. Don't think about how people die from it - think about how people survive and how it makes them stronger getting through it. You being upset won't help your mother - just puts more stress on her. It's important you keep a positive mind too. I heard diet can help breast cancer, even though I've never had it i heard vegan diets help. and I'm not just saying that because I'm vegan, I've heard many stories about going vegan help a lot of things. Remember, positive mind - Make sure she keeps a good diet - Make her life less stressful : ) Good luck <3 I know you'll get through it.
