Is the family history someone close, like her own mother? Was she tested for the gene? Does she get regular mammograms? Was the earlier lump benign? How old is she now? My mom had benign lumps removed from her breast when I was about 14. She didn't get regular mammograms. When she felt another lump in 1999, she assumed it was another cyst and ignored it. Two years later she died of breast cancer, because she didn't take care of herself. If your mom has done everything she should do, she will be fine whether it is cancer or not. When found early there is a 97% cure rate. That is what makes my mom's story so sad. She could still be alive if only she had gotten her mammograms. If it does turn out to be cancer, be there for her. It is devastating to get that diagnosis, even if the prognosis is good. Go with her to the doctor, so you know what to expect and can help her. Most people stop listening after the words "you have cancer
