Why Do Some People Make Breast Cancer Awareness So Trashy

Why Do Some People Make Breast Cancer Awareness So Trashy?
At my college students where shirts that read on the front : I love BOOBS" and on the back it reveals "get yours checked, Breast Cancer Awareness." Also, on Facebook lots of women are typing colors into their Facebook status....The surprise is that they are revealing the colors of their bras for breast cancer awareness. How trashy!!! I don't want some perv on Facebook to know what color bra I am wearing?? What do you think?

If you don't want them to know what color bra you are wearing, don't involve yourself in that part of the movement. People help in the ways they know how, and for some people that means getting a little bit slutty. Sex sells. It's sad, but true.
2 :
No idea! Also, the breast cancer awareness thing is always pink/bra/booby related. Men can get it too.
3 :
Women have boobs! They wear bras! Why is it a big deal for someone to know your bra color? Mine is black therefore I must be a slut right? Wrong! I don't see why that is trashy. Maybe the " I love boobs" shirts are disrespectful, but trashy? I don't think so.
4 :
Bottom line; sex sells.
5 :
Sex and a serious medical condition shouldn't be mixed. It sounds like the guys that laugh in school when they hear the word breast, penis, or vagina in a text book and the girls seem like they're using breast cancer as an opportunity to be a slut. What does the color of their bra have to do with breast cancer besides the fact that it holds their boobs? Further more, who CARES what color their bra is? Its like theyre saying save the BOOBS, not the person.
6 :
you are the most ridiculous person i have ever experienced

Can someone tell me about breast cancer

Can someone tell me about breast cancer?
I need sources for all answers...My two biggest questions are 'What are some causes of breast cancer?' and 'What are some environmental effects on breast cancer?' I would really appreciate it if someone would post an answer that's worth reading...and would answer soon.

There are no known causes for breast cancer, but there are many risk factors that increase the chances of contracting the disease. Some of these you can't control, like gender (100 times more common in women), age (nearly 8 out of 10 breast cancers are found in women over 50), and family history. Click the link below (from the American Cancer Society) for more info. It is a pretty comprehensive list. The strongest known environmental risk factor for breast cancer is exposure to ionizing radiation. A strong association has been observed between high dose exposure in atomic bomb survivors and persons undergoing prolonged radiation treatment. But few studies have been conducted of low dose occupational exposures or common medical procedures. A variety of factors have been identified as suspected environmental risk factors for breast cancer. These include: light at night (disruptions in melatonin secretion), hormone disruptors (including an extensive list of widespread compounds such as phthalates), environmental pollutants (hydrocarbons, organochlorines), and occupational exposures (chemical, radiation

When will my mom die of stage 4 hermonal breast cancer

The only person who can give you an accurate estimate if the cancer is in fact terminal is your mother's doctor.
2 :
Nobody can really say, it depends upon many factors one which is how much does she desire to fight it. A friend has 4 colon cancer and has successfully fought it for the last eight years (almost unheard of) but it has been a very hard mental and physical battle. She had undergone many various chemotherapies, surgeries, and radiation treatments to most of her organs. It had gone into her bone, and other places and is now back to her colon. But here is a difference for her, she had a daughter marry this year and has a grandchild next year, so she WANTS to be around for these events. It is her new life, she knows what the beast is like and is taking it by the horns. Somebody else not as strong may not want to battle it like she has. So, nobody can say she has so many months or years left ahead of her. If she wants to fight she could live a longer life, look at Patrick Swayze, he had a cancer that most people don't live longer than 6 months and he lasted 20 months. So, it is up to the person.

Stage 4 is the last stage there is, and being in pain is the worst sign there is. It's a very bad sign. I have stage 4 breast cancer, but am not at the painful stage yet. But everyone is individual. If you want to know, ask her doctor for his honest opinion.
4 :
No one can accurately answer your question, not even your mother's doctor. Patients with stage 4 breast cancer may survive for many months or even a year, if they respond well to treatment. Chemotherapy and radiation may slow the spread of their cancer. However, many patients do not respond to treatment and decline rapidly. There is no way to tell. Sorry for your family's difficulties

Should I get a mammogram at 18 years old, my grandmother had breast cancer, should i take action now

Should I get a mammogram at 18 years old, my grandmother had breast cancer, should i take action now?
my grandmother was diagnosed with breast cancer and my stepmother is only 48 years old and she has breast cancer. While i have researched that you should start getting mamograms when you are 40years old, i am wondering if i should go earlier? i know some girls my age (18) who have had breast cancer, and who get regular mamograms. what should i do??

no
2 :
its better to be safe than sorry. If you dont have the mammogram, then you will worry whether you have breast cancer or not. If you do have the mammogram, then you will have no need to worry and action to fight breast cancer can quickly take place. my advice is to get it done.
3 :
Relax. Don't think about or get obsessed about it. There's no better way to get sick than to think about getting sick all the time. FP
4 :
if it is in the family i spose it good to get checkd
5 :
yes! go get tested, especially if breast cancer runs in your family. it is always best to catch it before it gets too bad. go go go go!
6 :
This is something you need to talk to your doctor about. He or she will be able to tell you exactly how high your risks are, and what action you should be taking.
7 :
talk to your doctor see if he thinks it right but definately talk to him becasue ur better safe than sorry
8 :
Yeah
9 :
They normally won't do a mammogram on you unless you've noticed a lump during a self-exam or during your gynocologists exam. Do monthly self-exams and look online for directions to make sure you're doing them right. If you feel anything abnormal, don't hesitate to call your gyno to have her check it out and then she will advise you what to do next.
10 :
my mom also had breast cancer and i turned 18 in july. i got the test done and they said if it was clear i could get one up to every 5 years until 40 then every year. i would to be safe but not every year not until your older. they can be very uncomfortable the larger your breast size is.
11 :
Well I would get familiar with your breasts, do a BSE (Breast Self Exam) once a month, not around the time of your period. I would also mention your concerns to your family doctor who, when doing your yearly exam, should also be checking your breasts for any masses or lumps. They may feel that in your circumstance with the history of breast cancer, that you should be screened with a mammogram sooner than when most women go around the age of 40-55 on their first one.
12 :
Just make sure you get your yearly well women check up the doctor will check you then...it's usually not a mammogram and be sure to check yourself as well...you check now and feel whats normal then if you are checking regularly you'll feel if there is a strange lump or not...consult with your doctor about how you feel and they will let you know what's best. I'm sure! Good Luck...Breast Cancer runs in my Fam. too.
13 :
Your stepmother is of no blood relation to you so her case is irrelevant to yours. Your grandmother (IF she is blood related, if she is your stepmother's mother, then it is of no concern to you either) on the other hand....how old was she when she was diagnosed? You should start getting mammograms 10 years prior to her age when she was diagnosed. If she was 35, get one at 25, etc.
14 :
it wouldnt hurt to get regular check ups if cancer runs in the family it will help put mind at ease so make appointment when ready .
15 :
Mayb u should go check... I bet u won't regret it.
16 :
yes go now...if you have not noticed people are now catching cancer at the early stages and you don't want to be caught out there. if there is a chance that breast cancer is running through your family be the first to set an example an stop it now... don't wait it might be to late
17 :
Breast cancer is a common disease and your grandmother’s may or may not have been hereditary, but only a very small minority of breast cancer cases are– about 5 – 10%. Getting older is the greatest risk factor for breast cancer, around 80% of women who get it are over 50, and she may well have been one of the majority for whom it is a random thing. Breast cancer that runs in families is thought to be caused by a faulty gene, which can increase your chances of getting breast cancer. You can be tested for this when you are older if your doctor thinks it’s necessary – usually if one of your parents carries it. However, having a faulty gene does not mean you will definitely develop breast cancer. Just remember – most cases of breast cancer aren’t hereditary. My oncologist was able to reassure me that mine wasn't. Try not to worry without cause. Mammograms are not normally done on younger women because their breast tissue is too dense for a worthwhile result. Mammograms are not done on request and a doctor will not order one for someone your age unless you have found a lump, in which case you would also have a biopsy and a scan.
18 :
Well Im not a doctor or even a female at that but you know what I just happened to read the question n thought it would be a good idea to put my 2 cents in. Yeah being that it runs in your family i dont find it a bad idea at all to get that done. I know people may say o you are worrying to much or whatever but f--- what they say. Its your health and it is better to be safe then sorry I say go ahead and get it done and even do it once a year or whatever is recomended.
19 :
It won't hurt you to start getting them now. Just tell your doctor that you have a serious family history of breast cancer and are concerned about it. They may recommend that you get a mammogram every 2 years or so. But I like that you are worried about it now. Most women don't care until its too late.
20 :
If not now, at least do self breast exams every month. I would start mamograms by the age of 25, and have one yearly.
21 :
The average age for getting a mammograms is age 40. If you have a family history then you should have your first mammogram at the age of 35. There is a test you can have done to find out if you have the gene, it's a blood test. If you are that concerned you might want to talk to a doctor about this and then think hard about if that is right for you. I mean what will you do with the information if it comes out that you do have the gene. It's a hard choice to make, so think hard about it and go talk to a doctor. Good Luck
22 :
It is hard to do a mammogram on young women because the breast tissue is so firm. Do breast checks on your own to become familiar with how your breast feels. If something changes, you are more likely to notice. When ever you have a concern go see your doctor

Very serious question regarding pregnancy and breast cancer

Very serious question regarding pregnancy and breast cancer?
My very good friend is 16 weeks pregnant and just found out she has breast cancer. Unfortunatley, she is in the late stages and needs immediate treatment. They won't put her under general anesthesia because of risks to the baby. They say that chemo and radiation at the same time is the best way to treat it. What effects will these treatments have on her unborn baby? One doctors even suggested she consider terminating her pregnancy so that she could have a better chance to beat this. What should she do?

To me, I think that she should do what is best for herself, not to be mean. She wouldnt want to put both her and her baby at risk for serious problems. It is a very hard situation, and I am very sorry to hear about your friend. My mom just got done with having chemo for breast cancer, good luck to you and your friend.
2 :
im sorry to hear that i know she dont want to do that..is there another way out. her life is very important right now. i saw try to look up better sources...w/o loosing the baby and her
3 :
Oh WOW, i would not terminate. I actually found a lump in my breasts after my miscarriage at 24 weeks, and they just did a ultrasound on both of my breasts today. It came back as Fybrocystic breast disease. (don't know why they need to call it a disease) I am pretty positive that i am pregnant again and they did not want to do a mammogram because of my pregnancy. What are the doctors saying to do(besides the one doctor that said to terminate) What are the odds? I cannot imagine what she is going through! i was terrified this morning and mine is not serious. She is in my prayer's and i hope that you will keep us updated. Blessings and prayers EDIT: i would get 3 or 4 more opinions, there has got to be something that they can do to save both

Does having big boobs make your breast cancer chances increase

Does having big boobs make your breast cancer chances increase?
I am always really nervous about it because I feel like I would be more likely to get breast cancer because i have a larger C cup.

i have never heard that size increases your chances
2 :
No, breast size has nothing to do with it.
3 :
Being fatter, ie having fat cells that are able to produce leptin, increases the risk that any breast cancer you get will be metastatic. Consuming enough sugar and simple carbohydrates so that you trigger release of insulin is necessary to make cancer grow, so avoiding high glycemic food in the diet, avoiding getting fat, improves your chances of avoiding all forms of cancer. It does not entirely remove the risk. Avoiding becoming fat does often mean that breast size will be smaller.
4 :
You are not at higher risk of cancer, maybe a theoretic risk based on breast fat but it's minimal. The one thing it does put you at more risk for is tougher breast exams/mammograms simply because of the size of the breasts. This may theoretically "increase" your risk by missing smaller lesions. That being said, when you're time for screening starts (around age 40), be very vigilant and do your screening regularly.
5 :
No. Having large breasts is not a known risk factor for breast cancer, and no breast cancer information website or charity lists it as such Through breast cancer support networks I have met many, many women with breast cancer and most have not been large breasted. Women of all shapes and sizes get breast cancer. Being overweight, especially after the menopause, is a risk factor (not a cause); but most people diagnosed are of average weight. When I was in hospital for my breast cancer surgery, I was the only one of the eight women there who was full-breasted, in fact the only one who wasn't small breasted Breast cancer, like all other cancers, happens when normal cells change so that they grow in an uncontrolled way. This uncontrolled growth causes a tumour to form. It's hard to see how the size of your breasts could trigger that process

no

If I get annual mammograms what are the chances of me dying of breast cancer or needing chemotherapy

If I get annual mammograms what are the chances of me dying of breast cancer or needing chemotherapy?
I am scared my doctor called and I am supposed to go to a breast specialist because my mammogram came back he said it might just be calicus( negative mass) the place that did the mamogram sent me a letter to come back in 3 or 4 months for another mamogram. Can't they look at the mamogram and tell automatically if it is cancer or not? I always get regular annual mamograms and last year it was fine. should I be worried?
Cancer - 2 Answers

1 :
They have found something that is suspicious and MAY be cancer. This is why it needs to be investigated further. What they have found is probably smaller than a grain of rice and has developed since your last mammogram. Calcification may just be calcification - sort of solidified milk. It can occur at the site of a breast cancer tumour so this is why it needs to be monitored. Sounds like if this is the case your tumour is still too small to be detected. Your annual mammogram has paid off, if this is cancer it has been caught VERY early.
2 :
You cannot determine the chances of dying from breast cancer or needing chemo by whether or not you get annual mammograms. This is how most breast cancers are found. I don’t know what your doctor means by calicus, a benign mass is a fibroadenoma and this is not reason to send you to a breast specialist. They cannot always look at a mammogram and automatically tell if it is cancer or not. This mammogram should have been compared to the one you had last year making this a new finding. This is why they want you to come back earlier than usual. If this was suspicious the radiologist would have recommended a biopsy.
3 :
Coming from a family who has had much cancer in my family including breast cancer go as soon as possible and have it checked out. I know you are probably scared and worried, but it may be calicus like they say. I just had my mamogram done and the technician was explaining about the difference in cancer and calicus (a build up of calcium) as we were looking at my pictures on the computer screen they use now. First time I had it explained to me. If you do or don't have cancer, the earlier they catch any differences the more likely they can cure or remove it. My sister and niece had breast cancer and or cleared for over 5 years now. Put it in the Lord's hands and say your prayers, but go get it checked out. I pray you have the courage and good sense to do it. Its called growing up. Good Luck and God be with you. There is so much more they can do today.
4 :
Look, only 15% of cancer cases are cureless and breast cancer doesn't refer to this number. If you did the screening mammogram last year and everything was ok, don't worry. But don't postpone your visit to the doctor. Everything should be done on time. Go immediately and follow doctor's recommendations and cure. God bless you

Songs for Grandma being diagnosed with breast cancer

Songs for Grandma being diagnosed with breast cancer?
Found out yesterday my grandma has breast cancer, was wondering what songs are good for that?

keep holding on by avril i i love that song here it is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Gcrx2Ab0FM
2 :
Not being rude, but why the hell would she want songs that are "good" for cancer???? And why would you?? She has way more to deal with than some good songs. Thanks guys! You don't even want to know what would have come out of my mouth if someone brought me a cd full of crappy sad songs!
3 :
April said it a bit harsher than I would perhaps have, but that was my immediate first reaction too. How about a card and something pretty she can keep with her, like a photo frame she can have by her bedside? maybe one of the digital ones and load it up with pictures of her friends and family, and another of just nice peaceful country scenes for when she wants to be left alone.
4 :
Rascall Flatts has the perfect song for that, and I know it cheers me up as well! :) I have Breast Cancer also. It's called "MY WISH". http://www.elyrics.net/read/r/rascal-flatts-lyrics/my-wish-lyrics.html There is also "Stand"...I feel this way, all the time...It's been great advice. :) http://www.elyrics.net/read/r/rascal-flatts-lyrics/stand-lyrics.html They have tons of appropriate songs, you should check them out. :)
5 :
April's right.
6 :
A song isn't going to help your grandmother. There are no songs that are "good for" cancer. If you wish to help your grandmother, then do something genuinely helpful. If you live nearby, then go visit her and help around her house. Mow her lawn, take out the trash, and wash her car because she may be too occupied with her health to do that type of stuff right now. Be helpful, but don't be nosy. Don't ask questions about her illness. If she wants to tell you about it, then let her start the conversation. Best wishes that your grandmother has a good long term outcome
