How to raise $4600 for breast cancer walk

How to raise $4600 for breast cancer walk?
My sister and I want to walk in the 3 Day Breast Cancer walk. However, together we have to raise a minimum of $4600. The walk is in August, but with the economy like it is, how can we achieve that?

Start small. You have more resources at your fingertips than you think you do. If you have a Facebook, Myspace, LinkedIn, or any other social networking website, try asking your contacts for small donations. These people are your friends, and many of them would probably love to help. If you don't do the whole social networking thing, you can try asking friends, family and co-workers via email. Do either of you have a birthday coming up? If so, try asking people to donate to your walk, instead of getting you a birthday gift. Pink is the color for breast cancer, and it's a big color for Valentine's Day too. Think of ways to work that in, if you can. If you have the time, you can even set up a website, or a Facebook page dedicated to raising the money to participate. Good luck!

Great. I am very glad to note about your mother. Nearly 90% of the cancers including breast cancer are terminal in spite of all treatments. Less than 10% of the patients survive. May be the date is postponed. I am also sailing in the same boat and due to Cancer of the the family members, I am doing also do researches and advising people. I am also helping patients where ever I can. Please contribute your services also as much as you can since we have to fight it AS CANCER IS STILL AN ENIGMA. Best of Luck-

What is the chance of a 15-year-old getting breast cancer

What is the chance of a 15-year-old getting breast cancer?
I exactly mean breast cancer ( the life threatening one ) not benign breast lumps
Cancer - 3 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
well breast cancer isn't as life threatening as it used to be. there are great therapies to treat it and has a high cure rate especially when found early. As for your chances of getting breast cancer at 15 they are pretty low (i don't actually have any numbers) but it has happened before so you could possibly get it. It is just not likely that you will.
2 :
as far as I know there is a chance for anyone first I would like to ask if you have done a breast exam and if you hae and found a lump don't panic at your age you should just be familiarizing your self with your breast I thought the same thing and it turned out to be nothing if you are worried go to an adult
3 :
I've never heard of anyone under 30 getting breast cancer. It seems to be mostly 40 to 50 years old and older, so I would say the chances are pretty close to nil.
4 :
The chances of a 15 year old having breast cancer are very close to zero. It's almost unheard of in under 20s, and in fact fewer than 0.1% of all those diagnosed with it are under 30 and only 5% are under 40. Most (80%) are over 50. When I was diagnosed with breast cancer I was classed as 'young'; I was 50. The American Cancer Society and other cancer organisations recommend that women begin breast self examination at the age of 20. Before that it's pointless; firstly because there are so many hormonal changes that there is no 'normal' - and self examination is about a woman knowing what's normal for her and reporting any changes. And secondly because the chance of breast cancer is almost nil. Any breast changes noticed by a 15 year old, including lumps, are almost certainly hormonal. If you're concerned, talk to your mother; if you don't feel comfortable doing that, talk to your school nurse - she will be used to girls having worries like this and will be able to reassure you

why do you hear so much about breast cancer awareness and never anything about testicular cancer

why do you hear so much about breast cancer awareness and never anything about testicular cancer?
and yes, i realize this is "breast cancer awareness month", but it seems you always hear about it and there are all these charities but you hardly hear anything about testicular cancer. i'm not trying to be rude, i have someone close to me who is very sick with breast cancer, but i was just wondering. yes kathy, i have. did you read my details? you don't hear about testicular cancer nearly as much as breast cancer.
Cancer - 8 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
possibly because testicular cancer is easy to find in an examination by your doctor, it is slow growing, and it is easily treated and cured. No so for breast cancer.
2 :
Breast cancer is the number 2 cancer killer for women. Testicular cancer isn't even in the top 10 for men. That's why.
3 :
The reason breast cancer has a consistently higher profile than other cancers is simple - sheer hard work. People who campaign around illnesses are usually concerned with the illness that's affected them or their family. I know a couple who have a child with a very rare and life-threatening condition (not a cancer). Much of their time is now taken up with campaigning around this condition - fundraising and agitating for more funding for research, more education, more awareness etc Similarly, breast cancer awareness campaigns and Breast Cancer Awareness Month were started by ordinary women, many of them with breast cancer, to raise awareness so that people knew the symptoms, examined themselves regularly, attended their routine mammograms etc. Enthusiastic participation and hard work by women made it grow into something nationally, then internationally, recognised (and then big business cashed in). There are other cancer awareness months, ribbons etc; here's a list: http://www.cancer.org/docroot/MED/content/MED_1_Cancer_Calendar.asp - but no cancer campaign has had the sheer hard work put into it that breast cancer awareness has. As for why testicular cancer in particular is not heard about as much as breast cancer, the statistics go some way towards explaining: One woman in eight will develop breast cancer. In the UK an average of 33 women die from it every day (that's over 12,000 a year), and in the US an average of 112 women die from it every day - that's one every 15 minutes. Testicular cancer is rare; in the UK an average of 2,100 men are diagnosed with testicular cancer every year. In 2007, testicular cancer caused 58 deaths in the UK. Breast cancer is never considered cured; it can return at any time, even years after treatment. Treatment for testicular cancer is very effective and nearly all men are cured of the disease.
4 :
The pink ribbon is not at all a symbol of compassion or caring. It is not a symbol of empowering women, or educating women about so called treatment options. The pink ribbon is a symbol of male-dominated control over women. Turn the pink ribbon upside down, and it looks more like a noose. It is from this noose that innocent women everywhere hang themselves though ignorance, submitting to a treatment system that intentionally denies women access to a world of information that could help them prevent, treat and even cure breast cancer. "Pinkwashing" "Breast cancer has been transformed into a market-driven industry. It has become more about making money for corporate sponsors than funding innovative ways to treat breast cancer" Health Studies researcher Samantha King, author of Pink Ribbon Inc. The only allowed treatments, of course, are those that benefit the drug companies and conventional medicine practitioners. Livestrong Foundation has connections with the cancer industry and big pharmo companies who don't want to find a cure because it is not in their best interest, they have too much to loose $$$$.
5 :
Have you ever heard of the livestrong foundation??? guess not.
6 :
Because the "Breast Cancer Awareness" crap is sucking all the life out of tv air time and there is none left for the rest of it. I have brain cancer and I am sick of hearing only about breast cancer this and breast cancer that. With all due respect to those who have been through breast cancer (including my own step-mother and my mother-in-law), the last time I looked, you don't need boobs, you need brains.
7 :
I always wonder the same thing. I am a colon cancer survivor. The breast cancer survivors and I chide each other all the time in support group over their pink everywhere. I think it probably has something to do with how common breast cancer is. I also think it's because breast cancer is something that can be prevented with early detection. Still kind of miffs me, just enough to give the pink ladies a hard time and not buy anything pink during October. ;)
8 :
Annually 8400 men are diagnosed with testicular cancer a year with about 340 deaths for testicular cancer a year. Breast cancer has about 190000 diagnosis a year and about 40000 deaths from breast cancer a year. In this case it is simple math

Why does it seem like breast cancer is the only type of cancer anyone cares about

Why does it seem like breast cancer is the only type of cancer anyone cares about?
It seem as though breast cancer gets so much more attention than any other type of cancer. I realize that it is the most common but does that mean it is the most important? I went to a cancer support walk (to raise money because my father died of colon cancer) and I can't even describe how much emphasis was put on breast cancer and no other types. I'm sorry if this sounds a little ignorant, I don't mean it to sound that way at all. It just confuses me.
Cancer - 3 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
It doesn't sound ignorant, and I understand your frustration; there is a need to raise awareness about other cancers, and while I hate 'competitive illness' I can see why there is resentment about an imbalance in awareness raising and fund raising. But the reason breast cancer has a higher profile than other cancers is simple - sheer hard work. Breast cancer awareness campaigns and Breast Cancer Awareness Month were started by ordinary women, most of them with breast cancer or who had lost family members to breast cancer, to raise awareness so that people knew the symptoms, examined themselves regularly, attended their routine mammograms etc. Enthusiastic participation and hard work by women made it grow into something nationally, then internationally, recognised (and then big business cashed in). People who campaign around illnesses are usually concerned with the illness that's affected them or their family. I know a couple who have a child with a very rare and life-threatening condition (not a cancer). Much of their time is now taken up with campaigning around this condition - fundraising and agitating for more funding for research, more education, more awareness etc. Individuals don't have unlimited time, and choose their campaigns. And that's what the women who started the breast cancer awareness campaign did, and worked their socks off. It's thanks to the hard work of those women that breast cancer is no longer the major killer and the automatic death sentence it used to be - but we shouldn't lose sight of the fact that in the US alone an average of 112 women die from breast cancer every day. That's one every 15 minutes. And the whole thing does have some negative consequences for breast cancer patients too – I believe that it's now largely counter-productive, that the marketing and fund-raising hype surrounding breast cancer, and the pink fluffiness, by trivialising a deadly disease, is leading people to believe, wrongly, that breast cancer is 1) not very serious, certainly not as serious as many other cancers (many women with breast cancer have been told – by people who don’t have it – that it’s a ‘good’ cancer to get) and 2) easily curable. Sales of the overpriced pink tat you see in shops result in a donation of as little as 1% of the price to breast cancer charities and research, with the rest going straight into retailers pockets. I truly resent the disease that - who knows - may yet kill me being turned into a marketing opportunity by Asda/Walmart and others. There are other cancer awareness months, ribbons etc; but no cancer campaign has had the sheer hard work put into it that breast cancer awareness has. Any group of people can start an awareness campaign for any illness - but if they want it to be as successful as the breast cancer campaigning, they'll have to be prepared to be as dedicated and work as hard. ===== Edit: Re the answer below - I don't think the high profile of breast cancer has a lot to do with men's obsession with breasts. Breast cancer mainly affects women over 50 and the average age at diagnosis is a little over 60. The sort of person who is obsessed with breasts has little interest in the breasts of middle-aged and elderly women - trust me on that one.
2 :
"Is The Most Common"? I thought there were many more likely chances of cancer than breast cancer? I think it is because of a couple of factors: 1. Men like boobies and anything that threatens the boobies must be destroyed! 2. Breast Cancer seems to have a high mortality rate. 3. When a woman loses a breast, even if it is reconstructed, women don't feel like women anymore because so much pressure is put on a woman's breasts... It isn't uncommon for a husband/boyfriend to stop having sex with a woman that has had a Mastectomy. Oh, and you can't point fingers at a person with breast cancer... Lung Cancer? "Oh, they SO DESERVE it... They should have known better than to smoke!" Or "Oh, they didn't smoke? They shouldn't have spent so much time in BARS getting exposed to 2nd hand smoke... They should have known better..." You can't say "Oh, well, she should have... It must be her own fault." when it comes to breast cancer. (BTW, people get lung cancer all the time and not always from smoking, that is just the most well known cause.)
3 :
Lung Cancer needs to be informed to the public and needs the MOST FUNDS because lung cancer is so crippling. NSCLC stage IV has a 1% survival rate. In general 5 out of 6 people with lung cancer die. Only 1 person out of every 6 with lung cancer live. 5 year survival rates of 14% in some Lung Cancers. It's terrible. And they need to focus on it

She can retard the growth of the cancer, or possibly starve it to death and be cured of the cancer in time. Have her read the articles and links from this site (all of them) and decide if it isn't worth a try. What has she got to lose? http://www.healingnaturallybybee.com/articles/menu4_3_3.php
2 :
In California. If you have a serious medical problem. You could qualify for emergency medical service/medi-cal. Check with your hospital/etc.
3 :
Your mother does have options. She should talk to the hospitals or cancer clinics oncological social worker. The social worker usually has information about what is available locally and can help her with medicaid or direct her to hospitals that offer the Hill Burton low cost or free healthcare service. Read through options listed at the American Cancer Society: Health Insurance and Financial Assistance for the Cancer Patient http://www.cancer.org/docroot/MLT/content/MLT_1x_Medical_Insurance_and_Financial_Assistance_for_the_Cancer_Patient.asp Your MIL, of course, has no choice but to go forward with whatever medical care she can find .. health insurance would have given her options and is 'easier' . but she will qualify for some financial help in this situation. Good luck to her.
4 :
Just type in financial aid resources for cancer patients and there are a lot of resources listed. Some are soliciting money for their organization but most are helpful. The first one listed below goes into legislation and resources that are United States only. The second is to help if you are from the United Kingdom. Most hospitals have a financial aid office to assist in making decisions on how to afford treatment. Some states have individual programs that are good only for treatment inside the state and not across state lines. Another thing is do not lose hope or delay treatment after you get a second opinion. The earlier treatment begins the better the outcome and the better the quality of life.
5 :
she can call the cancer assoicate, and get the emotional support she needs, they will help her applie for, finical assitant, she can also call up ,blue cross association',for referrals contact, don't panick, she can also call. salvation army, they to have alot of referral s programs available. she can applied for social security,if she never worked, she can applie' for ssi, to get her treatments started she to apply for public assitant, them applie ssi,' good luck

Why should I as a man care about breast cancer

Why should I as a man care about breast cancer?
I been hearing all this talk about breast cancer awareness month. But I just can't understand why I as a man should care about this. Last time I checked breast cancer is EXTREMELY rare for men. So I don't really have anything to worry about, right? Because my chances of getting breast cancer are extremely small. I'm no troll, I only have so few points, cause it's a brand new account. And I am a man, not a woman pretending to be a man. And I intended for this to be a serious question.

you love the ladies, right? and any red blooded male should love boobs therefore, you should want to save them
3 :
No, its more common than you think. It is certainly NOT extremely rare for men, its just that most guys are too embarrassed to discuss it, which is silly. You need to stay aware of your ENTIRE body for any lumps or problems that may arise.
4 :
I agree.
5 :
You shouldn't worry much. You should worry about prostate cancer more.
6 :
It's not the fact that men don't get breast cancer as much as women. It's just that women think men should support awareness because men like breasts so much. People try to appeal to males by protesting "save the boobs".
7 :
Clearly, you are not at all "relationship material" for this gal, given your shallowness of mind and apparently very limited cognitive power. The world does not revolve around you honey and breast cancer could indeed adversely impact you, in ways which do not affect you physically.
8 :
Although your risk is slightly smaller simply due to the fact that you have less of this tissue, it is far from nil. Besides that, you have a mother, possibly a sister, wife, daughter, aunt, lover, girlfriend, coworker... whatever. You know many women, all of which have this potential risk of this disease. It is one of the biggest killers of women around. You should care because you are human. I as a woman care about prostate cancer. I encourage my hubby to make and keep his appointments, even though he hates the exam... Women have been getting uncomfortable exams from puberty on to stave of potential cervical and breast cancers...
9 :
You should be afraid, because there is a 0.01% chance that you will get it at some point in your life. Who gives a damn about prostate cancer. Only a 16% chance.
10 :
Breast cancer's not that common in women, either, when compared to other cancers. If for no reason with any altruism whatsoever, you can get breast cancer.
11 :
Most decent human beings care about other human beings. Then again, you sound very self-centered and selfish. You probably shouldn't be concerned. Since you care only for yourself, it is likely that you are quite alone. No one else will want to care for you. Some might choose to, but it likely won't be because they really want to. Try caring about people. Act like it. You might find some friends that way. You might even develop a close relationship that way.
12 :
Because some woman you love (mother, sister, girlfriend, wife, etc) has a chance of getting it. Too many women die because of breast cancer. Although, most people do not talk about this, lumps in the breasts of women are often noticed by men during sex. The more you know, the more chance there is that your wife or girlfriend would know about lumps before it is too late. Although, the chance is small, it is still there that you, as a man, can get breast cancer.
13 :
You don't have ANY women that you care about in your life? None at all? I'm concerned about prostate and testicular cancer, even though as a woman they will never affect my own body. I care about quite a few men, though. I'm married to a man, I have a father and brother and uncles, and I have many male friends. I'm not a very social person, but even I have friends. And if you don't have friends of both sexes, then I pity you.
14 :
DISEASE IS DISEASE YOU SHOULD BE AWARED ABOUT WHETHER YOU ARE MALE OR FEMALE .BE VERY CAREFUL AND SERIOUS ABOUT IT
15 :
Maybe some day you will have a real woman who walks and talks and you may even love her.
16 :
You shouldn't 'care' about breast cancer, as women typically don't care about prostate cancer... but men are told they should while women aren't told they should too. However, as a decent human being - you shouldn't imitate the gender supremacists who tell you that women's cancers are more important than men's cancers. Nonetheless, I think you're a feminist troll impersonating (badly) a man in order to demonstrate how 'evil all men are'. I don't know any men who literally don't care about breast cancer, but most women I know are pretty clueless about men's cancers.
17 :
Well, I assume you have no women in your life whose health you are concerned about. Lucky you. Just as I assume there are no women in your life who give a damn whether you get prostate cancer or not. But not everyone is in your position.
18 :
Breast cancer is terrible, deadly and disfiguring. It is true that men rarely get it but there must be women in your life (mom, sisters, aunts, friends). I would think you would be concerned for them.
19 :
1) Anyone can get breast cancer 2) There are women (and men) in your life who could get breast cancer. Its the most common cancer in women.
20 :
...because you can get it as well. Don't you read? Cancer has no boundaries for sex, color, race and age.
21 :
Because you should care about people - men and women alike. Just because mainstream feminists are contemptuous of men's health is no reason to stoop to their level

Why the big awareness campaigns for the breast cancer? Arnt there other censers to pay attention to it

Why the big awareness campaigns for the breast cancer? Arnt there other censers to pay attention to it?
There are so many diseases and cancer types, I dont get why the big awareness campaigns for the breast cancer... it sounds like a celebration more than awareness ... I just wonder why this particular type...if there is any particular reason!
Cancer - 3 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
There is a reason why breast cancer has a higher profile than other types of cancer.. It's not because it's more important, it's because of hard work and campaigning by women with breast cancer. That's it. There are other cancer awareness campaigns, with awareness months and ribbons etc - but the fact is none hs had the sheer hard work and dedication put into it that breast cancer awareness has. Breast cancer awareness campaigns and Breast Cancer Awareness Month started as a campaign by ordinary women, most of whom had breast cancer or had lost someone to breast cancer, to raise awareness so that people knew the symptoms, examined themselves regularly, attended their routine mammograms etc. It caught the public imagination, and enthusiastic participation and hard work by women made it grow into something nationally, then internationally, recognised (and then big business cashed in). People have limited time, and choose their campaigns; those who campaign around illnesses are usually concerned with the illness that's affected them or their family. I know a couple who have a child with a very rare and life-threatening condition (not a cancer). Much of their time is now taken up with campaigning around this condition - fund raising and agitating for more funding for research, more education, more awareness etc. And an old friend of mine has stage 4 prostate cancer; for some time he has dedicated his spare time to raising awareness of prostate cancer and funds for prostate cancer research. What they're doing is what what the women who started the breast cancer awareness campaign did. And it's as a result of the hard work by those women that breast cancer is no longer the automatic death sentence it once was - but don't lose sight of the fact that in the US an average of 112 women die from breast cancer every day (that's one every 15 minutes), and in the UK.that average is 33 a day - I don't have statistics for other countries. I agree that all the pink fluffy nonsense and 'fun' makes the whole thing seem more like a celebration sometimes. I'm in remission from breast cancer, and I hate Breast Cancer Awareness month. You know, all the pink razzmatazz has negative consequences for breast cancer patients too – the marketing and fund-raising hype surrounding breast cancer, by trivialising a deadly disease, is leading people to believe, wrongly, that breast cancer is 1) not very serious, certainly not as serious as many other cancers (many women with breast cancer have been told – by people who don’t have it – that it’s a ‘good’ cancer to get) and 2) easily curable. In all the pink trivia, it’s easy for people to lose sight of the fact that breast cancer is a devastating illness with disfiguring surgery, gruelling treatments and so far no cure. I agree that awareness needs to be raised about other cancers too.and while I hate ‘competitive illness’ I can see why there is resentment about an imbalance in awareness raising and fund raising. But when people complain about the attention breast cancer receives in comparison to other cancers, they need to be reminded that there is nothing to stop any group of people starting a campaign along the lines of the one started by those women who started all the breast cancer awareness - the solution is not less attention for breast cancer, but more attention for other cancers. Someone starting such a campaign would have to be prepared to be as dedicated and work as hard as those women though, if they wanted their campaign to be as effective.
2 :
breast cancer is huge. kills a lot of women. taken so much from me...
3 :
I agree It is NOT more important.... -Men are affected by cancer much more then women For those of you saying breast cancer is the deadliest...that is BS...it is the 5th leading cancer in WOMEN over the age of 50! -only 1% of men get breast cancer...so yes it is very gender biased! -susan komen does NOT care about men or children. Illustrating they are a sexist organization -men die from prostate cancer at almost the same rate that women do of breast cancer (yet women will not support the fight against prostate cancer) -If i said, "save the TATA's" before the pink campaign came to light...I would have been slapped. -I will NOT dontate to such a selfish cause and neither should you. -find a CURE for cancer...not just a cancer that affects WOMEN OVER THE AGE OF 50 I too find the susan komen foundation very selfish. I also notice women don't want to support prostate cancer. I say the NFL should only support PROSTATE cancer from now on and see what kind of 'heat' men would catch thumbs down comes from people who can't handle the truth...find a cure for CANCER...not a gender biased, age biased disease that isn't even fatel

Can a 13 year old girl get breast cancer

Can a 13 year old girl get breast cancer?
Last night I was playing on the computer and my right breast got itchy, and I found a small, 1 cm wide at most sized lump. Is it breast cancer? I have looked it up on the internet and it says It's probubly something else, and I haven't asked my mom about yet.

go ask your mom..
2 :
it's highly unlikely. it's probably just your period coming. just to be safe i would ask your mom =) don't worry about it because i've never heard of anyone your age getting it =]
3 :
They're probably just growing. Weird stuff can happen to the human body. I wouldn't worry about it. If it continues to bother you, consult a doctor.
4 :
Hello. I am not a doctor. However, don't listen to what some internet "Doctor" says, and follow common sense. Common sense would say, you should definitely talk to your mother right now.
5 :
If a 13 year old girl did get breast cancer, her case would make international news and would be written up in medical journals the world over. The chances are so close to zero that it makes just about no difference; you are more than twice as likely to be struck by lightning, and I bet you don't worry about that every time it rains! You know, when I was diagnosed with breast cancer I was referred to as a 'younger woman'. Know why? Because I was only 50 - yes, fifty - which is still pretty young for breast cancer. Breast cancer is almost unheard of in under 25s, let alone young teens. Fewer than 0.1% of those who develop it are under 30 and only 5% are under 40. At your age, with your breasts still growing and developing, any changes you notice are normal hormonal development. Also, from your description it sounds as if this lump is ON your breast rather than IN it - in which case it may well be a boil, pimple or bug bite, especially as it's itching. Talk to your mother, she will be able to reassure you. If you really don't feel comfortable doing that, wait till school starts; if you still have this itchy lump - and I bet you don't - talk to your school nurse; she will be used to girls having worries like this and will be able to reassure you that you DON'T have breast cancer
6 :
No. Breast Cancer grows in silence without any outward symptoms. I would never known I had cancer had it not been for my yearly Mammogram. I was 43. It is probably a reaction to your bra, or what your mom used as detergent. Ask your Mom.
7 :
This could be lots of things and at age 13 breast cancer is about the least likely. Go talk to your mother and if necessary she will get you to a dr to get it checked.
8 :
Yes, it's probably a cysts or something. However, I would suggest you to visit your doctor because that 1 cm wide lump is a manifestation of a breast in a not normal condition. It maybe something else, then probably will lead to cancer if you take it for granted. Have it checked by the doctor. Hope this helps!
9 :
Relax hon. At 13 your chances of developing breast cancer are about 1 in 10,000. From your National Cancer Institute. "The chance of getting breast cancer increases as you get older. Most women are over 60 years old when they are diagnosed." I was 43 at diagnosis, and classed as young. That lump could be anything from a cyst ( which are not itchy) to hives or an insect bite. If it does not subside or gets worse, see your doctor

Are you more likely to get breast cancer if you have bigger boobs

Are you more likely to get breast cancer if you have bigger boobs?
My boobs have been growing a lot and seem to keep wanting to. i hate it. I know i have a Farly larger chest size then normal kids my age and im 14 and into a D i believe. and im wondering if im more prone to get breast cancer. when im older i mean.
Cancer - 5 Answers

1 :
No, size in this case, doesn't matter. What does matter, however, is when you have more fat while very young, you have a good chance of going through puberty earlier and that increases your chances of certain cancers, like breast.
2 :
This is one area where size doesn't matter. If you are prone to breast cancer, or have the gene, or DNA, or hereditary factors, whether big or small, you can get breast cancer. Don't worry about it at your age or even when your older. Just do monthly breast checks when you're older and you'll be fine. Hope that puts your mind at ease. god bless you. I don't blame you for hating the size you are because I was friends with a girl in school, (long, long time ago) who was also large. She hated it because when boys talked to her, they never looked into her eyes, they looked at her breast. I wish you the best.
3 :
no that has nothing to do with it
4 :
no, dear, you're not. getting c ancer has nothing to do with size. it's usually attributed to being generally unhealthy, age, and meeting certain criteria, like a family history, or having other diseases that put you at risk, like diabetes, heart disease and the like. You can stop worrying.
5 :
It has nothing to do with it. Men can get breast cancer, even without man-boobs. Women with DD breasts can get breast cancer. My sister and I have both fought breast cancer, one an A cup, the other a D cup

Is it likely for teenagers to get breast cancer

Is it likely for teenagers to get breast cancer ?
I've been reading up on this subject, and in most cases it explains about lumps on the outer sides of your breasts nearer the armpit, but the lump i've found recently was under the outer nipple. I'm really scared that it's breast cancer, although i'm aware it's more likely to be a cyst. Is it more likely to be breast cancer because its under the nipple ?
Cancer - 4 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
Unlikely. What you can do: avoid too small Bra's, avoid breast piercing, avoid the "Pill". Do exercise containing movement of your arms.
2 :
it's highly unlikely in women under 40. your at a higher risk if its in your family. like the fist person says the pill can increase your chances but not by much at all. most women usually find lumps the size of a golf ball, that might put your mind at ease. but if your worried about anything like that just go to your doctor. don't worry about it though the stress of worry can make you over think a situation.
3 :
it is unlikely that you have breast cancer. get it checked out if your really worried, but i wouldnt worry too much. i do the same thing to myself, i notice some minor thing and have these thoughts running thru my mind..could it be this? could it be that? ask a doctor, but its not likely you have cancer
4 :
No, it is extremely unlikely. Your chances of having breast cancer are almost zero. It is extremely rare for a teenager to have breast cancer - it's a disease largely associated with ageing, and 80% of people diagnosed with it are over 50. Even in adult women, most breast lumps are not cancerous It is likely to be hormonal, or it may be a cyst. But it's very, very unlikely to be cancer. See your doctor and put your mind at rest

Are there any survivors of Inflammatory Breast Cancer?

How to approach a friend with breast cancer

How to approach a friend with breast cancer?
One of my close friends was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. I found out that she is now doing chemo. I tried to I.M. her to let her know that I'm around for her. She was short with me when I did, and I understand that she's having a traumatic experience right now. Should I give her time and let her come to me when she ready?
Cancer - 6 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
She can't be a very close friend if you found out she's facing chemo after she already started. A close friend would have known from the git go. And you I.M. her? That would p--s me off too. Go and see her in person and apologize. She's not coming to you.
2 :
Your friend may have just been very tired. Chemo tires us out tremendously. She also may not be ready to talk about it with you. For now just give her a wee bit of space for one on one contact. Send her a card reminding her you are thinking about her and for her to please contact you at any time. My mood always lifted when I would get a card from a friend in the mail. After a short time lapse, you can try contacting her again.
3 :
I would certainly at first take a step back to make sure your ready to deal with the problem as well. I would first educate yourself a little bit regarding breast cancer. Just so you have a good understanding of what she is experiencing. Secondly, she will have more confidence in you if she knows your educated about the subject. Next, I would contact her ever so often just to to let her know you are there. However, in th end, she will only truly communicate with you when she is ready. You can take a look at the site below for some general information. http://healthforself.today.com
4 :
yes. my mom has had breast cancer for a year. sometimes those people and their family dont want to talk about it until they are ready. just talk about other things that you guys used to talk about. live life to the fullest and imagine she has no cancer and pretend life is amazing. see what happens than.
5 :
I agree with notalone; she may well have been feeling exhausted and ill when you sent the IM. I think a card would be a good idea; let her know if she needs you, you'll be there - but only if you mean it, because she'll have been hearing that from a lot of people who won't deliver. I liked getting cards when I was feeling ill and low. When I was first diagnosed with breast cancer I got a text message from my brother, who I rarely saw in those days. It read 'I love you. I don't know what else to say. I f you need me for anything except ironing I'll be there'. I wasn't offended that he said it by text; it made me laugh and cry, and over 5 years later I've still got it on my phone. Just one thing; when you do talk to her, don't tell her she'll be fine (even her doctors don't know that) and don't urge her to be positive, it doesn't help most people. And of course you know her and I don't, but I'd say don't be afraid to show your feelings; after my diagnosis everyone I told was so brisk and positive that when I told a friend who just burst into tears, I was relieved - somebody cared!
6 :
Cancer can make us very cranky - but I expect your friend would like to be in touch - just is too tired to do much. If you go to www.after-cancer.com there is info about our moods, things that we like (a card is certainly one) and what is useful for us during cancer treatment. And good luck - we need friends who understand and aren't judgemental. Verite R

Can using a wireless laptop cause breast cancer

Can using a wireless laptop cause breast cancer?
I've heard a bit about this but don't know if it's just one of those myths however I use a wireless laptop on the net daily and often have the laptop up on my chest when in bed so could this cause breast cancer? Dumb question probably but a friend is adament it can and now I'm starting to worry.

It might, but as of yet there has been no science (that I am aware of) to back that up.
2 :
Nah it can't. people say if you fall on your breasts you get cancer, people say if you wear underwired bra's you get cancer, these are all myths/lies. cancer is cells in your body gone wrong. People make these lame things up, its silly =/ but don't worry about it:) but if it bothers you then you can always place it on your stomach? hope this helped:) Xx
3 :
No don't worry bout it. They are wrong trust me I do the same and I have done that for a long time and no it does not like andother person said its cells in your body.
4 :
It could because of the forces. I know using a cellphone can cause cancer. Any type. But I think it is defiantly possible

Any positive websites for those with breast cancer

Any positive websites for those with breast cancer?
I am looking for positive websites for those who have breast cancer- all the ones I find are stories about how this person fought it and died at 41 or along those lines. Or death rates and statistics. Its hard not getting depressed about having the disease when everywhere I look online has my outlook as not good. Does anyone know of more positive sites?
Cancer - 5 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
I'd be interested to see the answers on this as well. I was diagnosed last year and It's always encouraging to see other women doing well and being survivors.
2 :
I never found anything online that helped me feel better. There is a book called "Uplift" about breast cancer survivors, and I found that to be a support. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0743431375/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top Just remember that they have a fix for everything these days! Cancer doesn't have to be a death sentence.
3 :
Well, it would be impossible for any site concerned with cancer to be totally positive. It would be dishonest too - people DO die of breast cancer. There won't be a site that tells you your prognosis is really good if it isn't, but there are sites with stories and experiences from women with a wide variety of breast cancer journeys. Personally I want to have all the statistics, but I know not everyone's like me in that respect. If you use breast cancer forums, yes you'll find sad stories of people who've died; but you'll also find posts and stories from people who are still around years after diagnosis. Offhand, the person on breast cancer care's forums I can think of who's been around longest is 18 years post initial diagnosos. I may be wrong, there may be people who've survived longer. http://www.breastcancercare.org.uk http://www.breastcancer.org I have to say I found 'Uplift' too upbeat and lightweight. I read it shortly after diagnosis, and it felt as if they were almost telling me breast cancer was a gift, and certainly telling me it wasn't serious.
4 :
try livestrong.org It is the Lance Armstron Foundation's website and is for all type of cancer. Or, instead of looking for websites, check with your local hospital for a support group such as "Reach For Recovery". It has been 4 years since I was diagnosed and life is wonderful. My sister is a 14 year survivor, my sister-in-law is a 3 year survivor and my aunt has survived it twice. All of us are now living healthy lives, even though the thought that it might peek its nasty little head out again is still there. What helped me get through treatment was to remember that I am not alone.

Breast Cancer Survivor Rates are Higher in the US. Will Hillary Cut that Down as a Way of Saving Money

Breast Cancer Survivor Rates are Higher in the US. Will Hillary Cut that Down as a Way of Saving Money?
How does Hillary view the tradeoff between saving lives and saving money? Does she want our moms and grandmothers to have less likely chances of surviving breast cancer or would she fight to protect our families even if it costs a ton of money?

Can you provide a link to anything that shows that any of the health plans include letting folks die to save money? Of course there are numerous examples of private insurance refusing procedures to save money....matter of fact a young girl in California died a few weeks ago after her insurance company denied a liver transplant to her
2 :
This is inaccurate. Several months ago during October another article ranked the US like 13th worldwide.
3 :
Hillary Clinton will likely give more benefits than any other candidate when elected as President.
4 :
...but maybe more people get breast cancer here than in other countries....
5 :
I agree many women around me have survived Breast Cancer---but then I work for a very well to do firm--and these women have the money to survive. What about the low income women that have no coverage, because there is no health coverage for them anymore, because they have lost their jobs during Bush's reign, or those hospitals that turn away women because they have no insurance or their insurance is not provided at that hospital. I never heard these problems during the clintons adminstration

What can I do to help my mom, she has breast cancer

What can I do to help my mom, she has breast cancer?
My mom has had breast cancer for about 2 to 3 months, now what should i do to help her?
Cancer - 9 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
If u believe in god pray it will so work trust me.
2 :
just be there for her, help with the chores around the house. You might take her to the dr. every once in a while. Take her some flowers this would really make her feel good, but most of all let your mom know how much you love her.
3 :
The best thing you can do for her is just be there for her, but at the same time respect her need for space if she askes for it. I know a lot of cancer drugs tend to make people very nausous, so you can make sure she has plenty of peppermint to help ease it. There a peppermint tea that is supposed to work really well but I can't remember the name of it. I do know that peppermint and spearmint do help settle a queasy stomach though. The other thing is don't treat her any differently. Find things that the two of you can do together. Help her find really cool hats to wear if she starts losing her hair. I know some people will shave their heads in support but check with her before you do that so as not to upset her.
4 :
help out as much as you can on the homefront, and ring the cancer council to get the advice and support you need, they are there to help people who have cancer AND their family members. Be strong girl. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
5 :
Been there - I learned a lot from my Mom's experience. Depending on your Mom's personality, your actions will differ. If your Mom is very independent, you can best help her by being encouraging - don't baby her and do all of her normal chores. If there are some light chores she can do, let her. You just make sure you help her with any heavier work. If this fits your Mom, then just ask her if there's anything you can help her with. My Mom was very strong, bright, and divorced so she was used to doing things for herself. She NEEDED to do as much as possible so she would not feel useless/worthless. If your mom is not so independent, she may prefer that you do everything for her - she may want to be babied and pampered. If that's the case you can help her out a lot, but still encourage her to do some things for herself. Her actions may say she wants to be babied, but she may really just want attention. So help her in moderation, but also offer to help her by doing things WITH her. Lastly - Don't be afraid to talk about the disease. Don't change the subject if she brings it up. Do research so you understand what is going on with her physically and mentally. Your Mom is probably afraid - that's normal. Don't be afraid to let her know that you are afraid too.
6 :
help her around the house pray for her wen they have walks go 2 them hope i helped! =D
7 :
Let her get some rest, help her eat right. Do some cooking & cleaning for her. Make her feel good! Tell her how great she looks, how great she is, etc. BE POSITIVE! Have a mother/daughter night out, or watch a movie together at home. Be EXTREMELY supportive & make sure that she gets to her appointments. Lean on God & others!
8 :
Don't treat her like she can't do anything for herself. But do more things around the house, be supportive and positive {always up in spirit} praying don't hurt. She can and will beat it. Just be there for her!! My prayers are with you...*
9 :
please try not to use Kemo therapy i watched my g-pa go through due to Lung Cancer and Biasthetic lung cancer in the liver and i couldnt bear it. There are other options lik ehaving it surgically removed but it can come back. I hope your mom is okay i work with breastcancer patients with my mom so i know how peoples family are effected by it. so i hope you and your mom are okay and spend time with her just in case the worst happens but i always try to think that she will be okay. GOOD LUCK

I found out over the weekend that i have two lumps on my right breast and i made an app. for tomm. but till then i noticed my breast has change in size. can it be cancer cuz im very scared. please let me know. i have a app. for mamogram. tomm.

NOPE! Sounds more like fluid filled cysts. As a guideline cancer doubles in size every 6 months. At the 1 cell stage that is not a big deal - but do the math and it becomes a problem. Most cancers have be present for an average of 6 years before being detected. Good luck!
2 :
Did you recently get anything pierced? It could be swollen lymph nodes due to some kind of trauma. It could also be infected milk glands. Hopefully the mammogram will help out

Are there symptoms to breast cancer that are not breast related

Are there symptoms to breast cancer that are not breast related?
Many other cancers have symptoms like nausea, pain, tiredness, bleeding, headaches, etc. Are there symptoms that are common but non-breast related to breast cancer?
Cancer - 5 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
Your lymph nodes (under your arms) can become enlarged and tender. Back pain can be associated with advanced breast cancer -- it usually indicates an advanced cancer that has metastasized. Don't listen to the guy who wants photos of your breasts.
2 :
Under my arm hurt because the lymph nodes were swelling up and had been infected. I dont know of any other symptoms that would have alerted me except the breast area.
3 :
The best thing to do is get a thermography. Thermal imaging is over 95% accurate in the early detection of breast cancer. There is no compression and no harmful radiation. It is also 10 years earlier detection than mammography! Thermography is designed to show the pre-cancerous changes in the breast tissue before a tumor ever develops. It is absolutely unprecedented in the early detection of breast cancer. Check out: www.thermographyfirst.com for more info on it.
4 :
The symptoms of possible breast cancer are change in size - one breast may have become noticeably larger or lower nipple change - if it becomes inverted (pulled in) or changes its position or shape rash - on or around the nipple discharge - from one or both nipples puckering or dimpling - around nipple swelling – in your armpit or around your collarbone (from lymph nodes) lump or thickening - that feels different from the rest of the breast tissue All symptoms are breast or underarm related unless the cancer has spread to other parts of the body - typically the brain, liver, bones or lungs - in which case there may well be other symptoms. But most cases of breast cancer are diagnosed before this has had a chance to happen. Nausea, tiredness etc are not breast cancer symptoms. Most people diagnosed with breast cancer have felt no pain, but some do - I did.
5 :
I had no symptoms at all. My cancer was discovered on my baseline mammogram. It was a large tumor and had spread to 5 of my lymph nodes. The symptoms mentioned below (nipple puckering, etc) are usually found in advanced disease. You should have your symptoms checked out though. You didn't say where you are bleeding from but it sounds like something you should look into

does getting your boob sucked out and getting implants prevent breast cancer

does getting your boob sucked out and getting implants prevent breast cancer?
I was watching some reality show or documentary before, and the girl had this surgery done because both her mom and sister died of breast cancer. Does this prevent it? Yeah, but men have breast tissue. I wanted to know if the surgery literally gets rid of all breast tissue and makes it impossible to get breast cancer.
Cancer - 8 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
It could, I mean, she basically got a mastectomy.
2 :
Yes. There is a gene that predisposes women to developing breast cancer. The woman in the show likely has the gene. By removing her natural breast tissue and getting artificial implants, she cannot develop breast cancer.
3 :
hell no. Even, man can get breast cancer
4 :
Studies show a relevant decrease in the chance of breast cancer in women with implants ranging from 27-53%, but not a 100% prevention method. "So why does this happen? Well, I don't think it's because that breast implants have some sort of special protective properties when it comes to breast cancer, although some investigators are looking into this possibility. It's more likely that the women who get breast implants are drawn from a low-risk population. Most plastic surgeons, for example, wouldn't put implants in a patient with a strong family history of breast cancer....but this only partially explains the findings of these studies. Further research is needed to come up with the full explanation. It's good to know, that at the very least, breast implants do not increase your risk of developing a breast cancer." -Hope this helps.
5 :
If a woman has a mastectomy and reconstruction, her chances of getting breast cancer are dramatically lowered, but not zeroed. She would still require yearly mammograms and such to make sure it worked. In theory, if a man had his breast tissue removed, his risk would also be lowered.
6 :
It will reduce chances but will not prevent completely. This girl with positive family history needs to be under careful screening.
7 :
Breast cancer is predominately a woman's cancer over 50 and getting a breast augmentation reduces the chances. less then 1% of men get breast cancer children are not affected by breast cancer.
8 :
Yes indeed! It lowers the risk. You can get free price quotes from surgeons here: http://access.im/2/cosmeticsurgery

Can shaving my underarms have a link to breast cancer

Can shaving my underarms have a link to breast cancer?
Someone is telling me not to shave my underarms, simply because it is linked to breast cancer, and if I use anti-perspirants and shave my underarms, it will give me/ increase my chance of getting cancer. Is this true? It's really bothering me, and it's getting rather hairy there.
Women's Health - 6 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
It's not true. There was a study done on women who used antiperspirants directly after underarm shaving that claims it led to an increased risk but its not conclusive. There is no scientically tangible data that says any such thing.
2 :
NO!
3 :
No and your arm pits will smell better
4 :
no
5 :
I think the shaving part is harmless, but researchers have discovered that the use of antiperspirants prevent your underarms from sweating, so the natural toxins in your sweat that are supposed to come out of the body is blocked by the antiperspirant and builds up over time in nearby areas (the breasts). If that is a concern to you, try using organic products.
6 :
No shaving does not cause breast cancer. IF this was true majority of females in the world would get it. Do you ever see any girl in picture with hairy armpits

can having fibrocystic breasts increase your chance of getting breast cancer

can having fibrocystic breasts increase your chance of getting breast cancer?
and how can you tell the difference from the bumps on your breasts, or an actual bump meaning breast cancer?
Women's Health - 3 Answers

1 :
Cancer would be a lump, unlike regualar tiny bumps
2 :
Hello. I've had them all my life, and my doctor said it does not increase my chances of getting cancer, but it does make it harder to see a lump on my mammogram, because my breasts are so dense. Cancerous lumps are usually more hard, and don't move easily. Softer ones that you can move, are less likely to be cancer. That being said, any lump should be looked at by a doctor. It's better to be safe, then sorry. Take care :-)
3 :
I don't know if this will help fibrocyctic problems but it has been shown to decrease cancer risk. Check out the article on breast cancer prevention

There's a website called "Feel Your Boobies," or maybe Feel My Boobies, that sells t-shirts promoting breast self-examination and breast cancer awareness. Maybe you should just buy one of theirs!

"Help Prevent Breast Cancer" on the back and on the front stencil in, "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure".

What about a line from that song by that Fergalicious woman... Something like "My Lovely Lady Lumps" on the front and "Check It Out" on the back. Or "My lovely lady lumps... Check it out" on either front or back
