Does a burning feeling on the skin of breasts signal a possible sign for inflammatory breast cancer

Does a burning feeling on the skin of breasts signal a possible sign for inflammatory breast cancer?
Well, lately, someone near and dear to me has stated that she felt a burning feeling on the skin of her left breast. She stated that it wasn't the entire breast, but more like the skin area about the size of the tip of her middle finger. She also stated that whenever she pushes onto it, it just burns... It is kind of hard for me to explain it myself, but I was wondering if this was a possible sign/symptom of inflammatory breast cancer. I asked her about it and she plans to get a mammogram on the 20th of this month.

It does not sound like it, (but it is good she is getting a mammogram) the symptoms sound more like you get from an infection, with the temperature of the skin actually feeling warm to the hand that is touching it.
2 :
My wife presented with an area that was red, warm to the touch and burned/itched. The area had the signature orange peel look to it. So in as few words as possible, yes. Mammograms will not typically pick up IBC. A punch biopsy is the method of diagnosing this monster. Now , take a second for a big breath. IBC is very rare so it is not likely to be the case here. On the other hand, get her butt into see a breast specialist or OBGYN that knows what IBC looks like. I wish you the best of luck.
3 :
A mammogram typically won't detect inflammatory breast cancer. You would need a punch biopsy to know for sure. She really shouldn't wait to get checked though, as IBC is very serious. It's the most aggressive form of breast cancer there is.
4 :
This is nothing to play with...as described, it could well be IBC but mastitis will be the first thing to be ruled out. She shouldn't wait till the 20th to have this looked at by a specialist. As was previously stated, mammograms often miss early stages of IBC especially in women with dense breasts...a biopsy is imperative if it turns out not to be mastitis. IBC is the most aggressive form of breast cancer and has usually metastasized at time of diagnosis. Encourage your friend to see a physician as soon as possible! Good luck to you

If your breasts got hit by a soccer ball really hard, would that be a possible lead to breast cancer

If your breasts got hit by a soccer ball really hard, would that be a possible lead to breast cancer?
If your breasts got hit by a soccer ball really hard, would that be a possible lead to breast cancer? What actually causes breast cancer and how can you prevent it? Please be very detailed :)

1 :
no you cannot get breast cancer from being hit to hard
2 :
no that doesn't lead to breast cancer. you get breast cancer because there is a tumor in your chest.
3 :
You could get a nasty bruise, but that's about it. There's really no details to give except most breast cancers occur in women over 50 and many times it's hormone driven although there are other causes.
4 :
Not really. Getting hit by a soccer ball in your breasts once won't technically give you breast cancer. Factors of ''How you get breast cancer" are really unknown. The only sensible one is a mutation occurring in the blood stream cells, or inheriting it from a relative. Other factors include, denser breast tissue, already having another treatment to a different type of cancer can increase your risk of breast cancer, not having children or simply having them after the age of thirty is also a risk of breast cancer, and birth control pills can also add to the cause. Although there aren't really ways to prevent breast cancer, you can reduce your risk of getting it...For example, having a number of children at a younger age (in your 20's rather than beyond your 30's). Being pregnant reduces your number of lifetime menstrual cycles which can also be the effect. Also, you may want to try exercising daily, eating healthy, limiting alcohol use, and even not using post-menopausal hormone therapy (PHT).. Hope this helped a bit =]
5 :
There are several things known to increase your risk of breast cancer. So far, injury such as blunt force trauma isn't one of them. This doesn't mean it won't lead to breast cancer, just that we don't know it will increase your risk. Any injury could lead to cell mutation which could lead to cancer, but there is no scientific evidence it will. Be vigilant, but then we all should be, but don't be paranoid

Why don't men have the same intensity to fight prostate cancer like women fight breast cancer

Why don't men have the same intensity to fight prostate cancer like women fight breast cancer?
Women have turned breast cancer into a national movement and I so proud of them for that. But on the other hand men are not trying to turn prostate cancer into the national movement like breast cancer. Why?

Men does not like to get personal. Imagine our ads would be like when a doctor would stick his finger for digital exam for the rest of the world to see, not funny......
3 :
Men are simply more vain than women.
4 :
Because men's health receive more funding and research than women's. There are more treatments geared to treat men's issues, for instance, think of all the ads you see just to help men with their sexual experiences...not life threatening yet more research dollars (federal and private) have been spent on this issue than on breast cancer research.

i think men are actually more ashamed of it...Woman seem to be ok saying i lost a boob but guys don't wanna say Oh i lost a nut...

Movements are nice but progress is better Dendreon prostate cancer drug prolongs survival in trial By David B. Wilkerson Last update: 8:59 a.m. EDT April 14, 2009 CHICAGO (MarketWatch) -- Dendreon Corp. (DNDN: Dendreon Corporation News , chart , profile , more Last: 20.63+13.33+182.53% 10:06am 04/14/2009 DNDN 20.63, +13.33, +182.5%) said Tuesday that its Provenge treatment prolonged the survival of men who had advanced prostate cancer in a Phase III trial of the drug. The company said the successful trial means Provenge may represent the first in a new class of active cellular immunotherapies designed to engage the patient's own immune system against cancer. Because the data meet the criteria and specifications outlined in Dendreon's Special Protocol Assessment (SPA) agreement with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the company intends to move forward in the fourth quarter of this year to gain licensure of Provenge. End of Story

I agree, and my family are avid contributors to the fighting cancer cause. "In 2006, Britain's net contribution to the EU budget was £3.9bn" If the UK Government stop wasting money on crap like the EU, I believe amazing advances in treatment could be discovered earlier. Just imagine if the UK Government gave even just a fraction of that £3.9 BILLION to Cancer research!!
9 :
I strongly disagree with you. My husband has prostate cancer and is very active in a group here in Atlanta. They spend a lot of time and effort setting up booths and such to educate people about the problem. He tells me that they are very disappointed that the media does little to promote their efforts, as it does with breast cancer.
10 :
men work all day, housewives get bored and take up causes
11 :
The death rate from breast cancer is higher. By the time men get prostate cancer they are pretty old, and the disease can progress slowly. Also - woman will go in for mammograms. Men do not want to go in for a prostate exam, especially at 30 when prostate cancer won't get them until they are over 50.
12 :
Because people would rather talk about breasts than @$$holes. . . It sounds like I am trying to be funny, but it really is that simple.
13 :
Here is a joke that explains why: Q: Know why husbands usually die before their wives do? A: Because they WANT to!
14 :
because we men like to think we're indestructible. we don't like to think theres something wrong with any part of us. especially in the most sensitive and personal of areas

17 :
Neon the Unknown you rock loved your answer...

They do
19 :
It is not nearly as deadly as breast cancer... while they have similar rates of occurance, prostate cancer kills about 3% of those who get it while breast cancer kills about 8% or women dx'd with early stage and over 40% with later stages.
20 :
Good question. I don't know. I think they should.
21 :
There is already a cure for cancer but the elitists keep it secret to reduce world population. They have created and weaponized viruses like HIV/aids and in future bird flu to wipe out billions. see the Georgia Guide stones. Eventually the Rotschilds may even turn on the Rockerfellers
22 :
The simple reason is that Prostate cancer is rarely deadly. Nearly all men get it in the late stages of life. Most who do get diagnosed in their seventies or eighties die from other causes. Many men die with prostate cancer. Relatively few die from prostate cancer. The most common treatment for elderly men is 'Watchful Waiting" meaning you do nothing - because it is slow growing and not causing serious symptoms. It is different for younger men who get diagnosed, or older men who are otherwise healthy. The stage and speed of the cancer also comes into play. There are many treatment options and support groups for them. Without early diagnoses and aggressive treatment breast cancer is nearly always fatal. Prostate cancer rarely is because it is typically not very aggressive and because of the stage of life it typically occurs in. So it is hard to base a Breast-cancer-like national movement on a disease that while far more common, does not have any where near the death rate or impact on peoples lives.
23 :
It is because men usually get prostate cancer at a later age and are less apt to fight. To Jehen: I disagree with you that prostate cancer is rarely fatal. Prostate cancer can be very deadly and can spread rapidly. I lost someone I loved to prostate cancer. It was discovered early and he battled it for years. It spread and did horrible things to him before he died

Should I get mammograms earlier or be tested for the Breast Cancer gene

Should I get mammograms earlier or be tested for the Breast Cancer gene?
My Aunt (Dad's sister) died of breast cancer and had the breast cancer gene should I start mammograms earlier or get tested for the breast cancer gene?

You need to learn breast self exam if you don't already. You need to get a baseline mammogram, even if you are young. It costs between 3-4 thousand dollars to genetically test for the breast cancer gene. If you had the gene, would you be prepared to deal with making drastic changes, like having your breasts removed to prevent cancer? The pros's think it is better to know, so as to avoid getting cancer. Even if you have the gene, it isn't 100% that you will get cancer. The choice is yours to make, it is a personal decision and a financial one. If you are tested and have the gene you may be denied life insurance or other things. Best of Luck--I have been through this myself. You may be interested to know there is a greater link to breast cancer from your fathers side (generally not personally) than your mothers.
2 :
If your aunt's breast cancer was definitely due to one of the two faulty genes known to be responsible for hereditary breast cancer (only 5 - 10% of breast cancer cases are), then it would make more sense to establish whether your father carries that gene. Like his sister, he will have had a 50% chance of inheriting it from whichever of their parents carried it. If he did inherit it, then you have a 50% chance of having inherited it from him. If he didn't inherit it, nor will you have. Talk to your dad and to your doctor about this issue. This link may help you find the information you're looking for: http://www.breastcancer.org/risk/genetic/testing

Everybody likes women and women's breasts and think they should be protected, but men and their prostates - YUCK.
2 :
Because men seem to give up on life easier.
3 :
Charities, not women, turned breast cancer into a national movement. Charities make money to people's surprise. It is easier to get women involved in things than men, because women are more social and easier to influence, because they are typically more emotional. Men don't care unless they get the disease or someone they love gets the disease

Does anyone know why breast cancer is on the rise

Does anyone know why breast cancer is on the rise?
My wife had breast cancer her mother had it & it seems like every one is getting it.

Breast cancer rates are declining: http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/mm5622a1.htm
2 :
HRT Your wife and her mother could have, whats called "the breast cancer gene" http://www.breastcancer.org/risk/genetic/
3 :
Odds are the rates are pretty similar to the ones in the past, my guess is that it is just getting diagnosed more because of better awareness. and you are seeing it more in the media because it is a hot button topic. Also, once something shows up in peoples lives they tend to notice it more.
4 :
Cancer rates are declining. They still take a backseat to cardiovascular disease in terms of causes of death in the United States each year, but I can see one reason why the incidence of breast cancer may appear to be increasing. The "Baby Boomers" are aging and developing age-related problems. Heart disease, cancer, etc. may all appear to go up in the next few years simply because there will be a larger population of the elderly than there has been in the past who are prone to such things as prostate and breast cancer, heart disease, kidney disease, etc.
5 :
I don't know about it being on the rise, but younger and younger women are being diagnosed. I think it is due to all of the soy products that are being introduced into our food. Read your labels. Soy mimics estrogen. Some cancers are driven by estrogen.
6 :
It isn't. Breast cancer incidence rates haven't changed significantly for 20 years. Deaths from it have declined due to screening and women's awareness - earlier detection and treatment. It's primarily a disease of ageing though - 80% of those diagnosed are over 50 - and people in the west are living longer because of better health care, so there are more older women and therefore more women susceptible to breast cancer. Also breast cancer, like other cancers but probably even more so, is talked about far more openly than in the past, when many people mouthed the word cancer rather than say it aloud. This can make it appear that breast cancer is more widespread these days, although it isn't. The fact that your wife and her mother have both had breast cancer may indicate that there is a faulty inherited breast cancer gene in their family, especially if one or both of them was diagnosed at a younger than usual age (under 50). 5-10% of breast cancer cases are hereditary. Your wife will have been regarded as at increased risk because of her mother's breast cancer even if no faulty gene has been detected. With one in nine women developing it though, it's not unusual for two or more members of the same family to develop non-hereditary breast cancer

Is it true that Sheryl Crow stated she got breast cancer from warm bottled water left in her car

Is it true that Sheryl Crow stated she got breast cancer from warm bottled water left in her car?
I don't believe it, but the story has been circulating! Can bottled water really cause cancer? I know there are a number of factors...but did she even say how she got breast cancer?

When plastic bottles with liquid in them are left in a hot place and you go back and start drinking it again, some kind of toxin or substance gets into the water from the plastic and yes, causes cancer. I've heard lots of stories like this, but you can't always trust what people claim.
2 :
Geez, so many people believe this and it's completely not true. My father worked in a plastic factory for 20 years and he knows everything there is to know about plastic and he said that does not happen. There is a type of plastic that does this, but it is NOT the type of plastic that is used in water bottles.
3 :
She's never once said that and I can't believe anyone would actually believe that. She doesn't know how she got cancer, just that she's older. Also, having kids at an older age, not breast feeding or not having kids at all is included in the risks for developing breast cancer. Tania's 2nd, she's given interviews about her breast cancer. She had a lumpectomy and radiation. Guess she didn't want to lose her hair, so no radiation. She needs to keep a close check on her situation, in case there's one cell they didn't find.
4 :
You are right not to believe it, it's an urban myth/legend started and spread by a hoax email. These links give the facts behind these and other rumours/hoaxes about plastic water bottles and breast cancer. Sheryl Crow is supposed to have said on Oprah that this is what caused her breast cancer - as you'll see from one of these links, Oprah Winfrey's company, Harpo, denies that Sheryl Crow ever made those remarks: http://www.hoax-slayer.com/plastic-cancer-link-hoax.html http://urbanlegends.about.com/od/medical/a/bottled-water.htm http://www.snopes.com/medical/toxins/plasticbottles.asp Nobody knows what causes breast cancer, and reputable breast cancer websites and charities do not list plastic water bottles - warm, frozen or tepid - as a risk factor. As people whose life's work it is to research such things don't know what causes breast cancer, there is no way that Sheryl Crow can know what caused hers. Edit* Tania's 2nd mom, it's a matter of public record that Sheryl Crow had breast cancer and yes, she has given interviews about it including the one that resulted in the misunderstanding about plastic bottles. Sometimes people need to be a little less quick to hit that thumbs down button...
5 :
Those tabloid stories are so unreliable. It was probably written this way. "While on her way to the hospital for her yearly mammogram, Sheryl Crow was seen drinking only bottled water...." Big deal. These people can do the least of anything without it being made public. Do they know for sure if it's breast cancer she has? Or will there be other stories going around that her cancer is of another kind. Until I see and hear her on an interview, I wouldn't believe anything you read or hear about a celebrity. Trust only their word. Besides, is there anything that can't cause cancer these days? It seems everyday, scientist have discovered something else can cause cancer
