I was in the shower today and I noticed that I have a lump in my breast. It's not really near the surface, but it's in the upper part of my breast and towards my side a little. It hurts to apply pressure to my breast. My family has no history of breast cancer, that I am aware of. I moved out of state 6 months ago, and have no medical, so this would be a huge inconvenience right now. Is it possible I could have it? Any advice?

i think you should go get a mammogram done. it could be possible that it is breast cancer but it could be nothing. but it's good to see whats going on. it could be serious.... good luck!!!!

Insurance or not, you need to have it checked out by a doctor. Unfortunately, health concerns never happen at a convenient time. But you need to address this with a doctor asap.

It is possible to have fibrous masses in a breast that are not cancer BUT any mass in your breast needs to be checked out and ASAP. Sorry I know it is not convenient and actually sometimes there are free outreaches for breast cancer detection. Call the local hospital and ask if they have any advice but do not wait to get it looked at. Your life is worth way more than any amount of doctor bills.

It would be highly unlikely that it's breast cancer at your age, but still, not something to take a gamble on. Call mom and see if she can help pay for a doctor.

You can't be sure on your own, but just to be safe you should go see your doctor as soon as possible. It would be awful if you waited until it was too late. Don't freak out until you see your doctor. Try not to put it off because if something was wrong, waiting could be bad.

I use to get those, and they come and go. mine were from stress, I was really young. but always get checked by a doctor, better be safe.

I've had that too, once it was just swelling from hormones (pms) and another time it was lymph nodes because i was sick. Hi Sarah! There is no need to be overly worried about it. Your best option at the moment to avoid guesswork and worry is to go to your family doctor who can refer you to a specialist if needed. I know of several women whose lumps or cysts were not at all malignant. What is important is that a biopsy is made on it to rule out cancer. Biopsies are only done if cancer is suspected. Since your family has no history of breast cancer, your chances are high of not getting it. Observe keenly the changes on your lump and make sure that you go and see your doctor. Don't delay. Breast tenderness is common during certain periods of our menstrual cycle, too. If you haven't lost considerable weight in the last few months, then you'll be fine. Whatever you do, talk to your mom so that you can map out your options and she can contact your doctor for an appointment. My family has a predisposition to cancer. My grandmother died of breast cancer and an aunt. I also lost a brother a few years back. He had an aggressive form of lung cancer which was attributed to his smoking habit. Several relatives have also died of some other forms of cancer. It's like a cloud over our heads so everyone tries to be conscious about living a healthy life.

I'm in the exact same situation. 22 years old. I've noticed that as well, only my cycle is coming. what I'm going to do is see what happens after it gets here in a few days. but I am strongly considering making my appointment at my college nurse building 2morrow. I've been looking this up and I noticed that there are a lot of people who ask this question and the problem is in almost the exact same spot. mine is the upper part, almost near the armpit but not quite. i can see the difference between the two of my breasts if I look hard enough. But I'ma go ahead and schedule an appointment for tomorrow and see what the doctor tells me, because I'm tired of worrying about. you should do the same. most of the time, it turns out to be nothing. probably a cyst, or that kind of tumor that doesn't count for panic because it's not dangerous. it'll be great if nothing is wrong at all and it's just a duct. but I think I'll go ahead and work my courage and schedule something for tomorrow instead of waiting for my cycle to start. the more I mess with it, the more it gets sore. but mine is only slightly. but it looks like this happens to a bunch of people. only I never e-mailed then to ask them how did it turn out for them. but make your appointment, and I will do the same
