Can my boss make me reveal that I have breast cancer

Can my boss make me reveal that I have breast cancer?
I am going through breast cancer and I finally told my boss. He is DEMANDING that I tell the entire staff what is going on. Can he do this? Does that not go against all privacy laws? What should I do. I don't want anyone to know. Reasoning was that I was over-emotional and I owed it to my co-workers to tell them why. I think it's BS!

Remind him of HIPA.A..........He can't demand you to divulge anything....but that won't stop him from telling everyone . Go to Human Resources about this. EDIT: If you had a melt-down at work and there was a big stink, perhaps your boss wanted them to know the reason was because of your breast cancer diagnosis....His intentions were good....(?) Or maybe he should just say you were having health issues and not divulge what exactly they were.

If you are in the U.S., tell him that is a violation of your HIPAA rights, and as such, take it up with HR, and please stop harassing you or you will file a complaint. The only entity entitled to your health history is your employment sponsored healthcare provider, and they canot even tell him without your permission.

That's the most inappropriate thing I've heard in a long time. What is his reasoning for why you have to do this (and you don't have to at all)?

Go to Human Resources IMMEDIATELY and explain your situation, telling the HR director that you don't wish to take legal action, but you will. There are laws to protect you and you may have to get an attorney. Sorry for all this. Cancer doesn't suck enough, but assholes still get in the way, huh
