Do you think there is a conflict of interest between Prostate and Breast Cancer

Do you think there is a conflict of interest between Prostate and Breast Cancer?
It seems like Prostate cancer groups are trying to do the same things like Breast Cancer with fundraisers and marathons. This should not be a competition. professor.. men with Breast Cancer is rare. rowdy... that is just a lie helen... men need to be encouraged to see the doctor than persevering their pride.

Good for them- but make sure their experts are on the same wave length. I have heard some of them, the experts, lately telling older men (45+) NOT to have their PSA tested. And men can get breast cancer! It can actually be in the same individual. edit Actually, depending on the year, 1-3% breast cancer is in men- its not that rare. Its just that men don't tell you they have it- they are embarrassed to have the woman's disease. AND yes rowdy that is a lie.

It seems that you feel that marathons and fundraisers are the sole property of breast cancer groups. That sounds a bit selfish to me. There are a lot of very nice and productive people who, even though they are not female, will be missed when they die of prostate cancer. There is room in this country and world for good-faith efforts to reduce the occurrence of these, and ALL, types of cancer. Please don't try to turn this into a debate.

Mainstream feminist organizations made it a competition when they actively lobbied Congress to prevent an Office of Men's Health and prevent prostate cancer research from being as well-funded as breast-cancer research. Indeed there are now 10 federal Offices of Women's Health and ZERO Offices of Men's Health. And federal spending on breast cancer is double that of federal spending on prostate cancer. So the successes of mainstream feminism in this area are quite impressive. I am sure that they are proud! Today, astonishingly enough, there is still no even remotely reliable early prostate cancer detection scheme. And mainstream feminists consistently lie about the statistics of prostate cancer when compared to breast cancer (see link of these data by the American Cancer Society). That is why it is a competition, and the competition will grow more intense. http://www.cancer.org/acs/groups/content/@epidemiologysurveilance/documents/document/acspc-026216.pdf

I don't think they are really trying to compete but the truth is that breast cancer has had far more publicity than prostate cancer and therefore people are more aware of it and recognise the need to donate to charities that are searching for a cure. Women's awareness of breast cancer also means that it tends to be detected early and the survival rates are very good. The prostate cancer charities are trying to raise awareness to the same level as for breast cancer. Men are not so willing to go to the doctor with symptoms especially of the more embarassing kind and so many men with prostate cancer get diagnosed late on in the course of the disease and therefore the survival rates aren't very good. There is also the fact that in the long run any money donated to any cancer charity will help all people with cancer.

Somewhat Prostate awareness groups ARE trying to get more publicity and raise more money by following the steps breast cancer took as every year with fundraisers and marathons, millions of dollars are raised. I agree that in some context that it should not be a competition but prostate cancer affects just as many men as breast cancer affects females. Because of this it doesn't seem fair at all that one of these gets a boat load more publicity and money than the other. At the end of the day lives are at stake. Whether its a competition or not all that matters is the money that is being raised. And the fact that prostate cancer is just as bad as breast cancer, makes it all the reason for their to be more publicity.

No. They have a right to find a cure for their prostate cancer, just as much as we do. My Father had Breast Cancer, it may be rare, but he wasn't so lucky
