Im a 17 year old female, and i want to shave my head for breast cancer awareness. My grandmother and some of my other family members have had breast cancer. I want to know if i should or not my mom says if i want to do it. But my grandfather is disgusted by the idea. A few of my friends support the idea. But i want some opinions please and thank you. I forgot to say but yes i want to donate it :). Thank you for the responses so far.

I think that is would be absolutely wonderful of you to do it. That takes a lot of courage, and I think people would be very proud of you. You can also donate your hair to Locks of Love. That is something that really is up to you, but if you are willing to, I think it would be fantastic and definitely raise awareness. I just want to say that I think that is a very selfless thing to do, and I very much respect you for it.

If you can get sufficient sponsorship to make it worthwhile, go for it. Keep in mind that not all breast cancer treatments cause hair loss and if you are only doing it to raise awareness rather than to raise money for a breast cancer charity then a pink ribbon is probably more effective.

Pretty extreme, shaving your head imho. Besides, would people know the reason why you shaved your head is because you want to promote breast cancer awareness? People might get the wrong impression.

I know someone who had Liver Cancer. The doctor gave her 3 months to live. She ended surviving for a whole year!! But, when she became more sick, she began to be depressed. Her daughter was so sad to see her mother depressed that she shaved her head just for her mother because she had Liver Cancer. She wanted to let her mother know that she is not alone in the war against cancer. If you believe I think you should shave your head because it's what you stand up for. I wish you the best!!

My opinion? Honestly? I think you may be misunderstood. Shaving your head is more likely to be interpreted as an attention seeking act, rather than an act to raise awareness of breast cancer UNLESS you are totally committed to campaigning, gaining sponsorship and raising funds to donate to a cancer research foundation
