i think its just another way for the media to try and scare us once again. people are so driven by fear is ridicious
2 :
Everything causes cancer this days.... that means... they have absolutely no idea!
3 :
when we are required by society to spend more than 75% of our time indoors lit by artificial light???? and for most of our lives this happens?? They are kidding of course!!! Children do not learn except when sitting on their bottoms in a classroom lit by artificial light! then we grow up and go to work. We are required to sit on our bottoms in office cubicles lit by artificial light! If it caused cancer ALL of us would have breast cancer!! Of course, it is a scare tactic that the media is so very fond of headlining with!!! I don't believe any thing the Media has to say about what causes anything, nor the cures for anything the Media hypes either, for that matter.
4 :
Come on, think about it. Why would any kind of light cause BREAST cancer? If anything, bad lighting (UV from sunshine) causes SKIN cancer, as skin is exposed to light. Mammary ducts and lobes are not exposed to light

How worried should I be about breast cancer

How worried should I be about breast cancer?
I'm only 19 years old and my doctor told me that there is practicly no chance of me getting breast cancer at this age and for right now all I have to do is the monthly self exams. My one grandmother died of breast cancer in her late 50's, so naturally I'm worried...how worried should I be and what should I do?

1 :
The good doctor is right. Just do your exams and don't worry. When you are in your 30's revisit this with your doctor. See a gynecologist at that time.
2 :
My grandmother had breast cancer and she got completely better and has lived to 74 and is still living. (she was late 40s when she got it) Keep getting checkups, if you do get it, it shouldn't be a problem if you catch it early.
3 :
The biggest risk factor in Breast Cancer is age. (70% are over age 50) Family links are usually only considered to increase your risk factor if you have 2 primary relatives diagnosed with breast cancer. A primary relative is a parent, sibling or child. Grandparent is a secondary relative. Less than 5% of breast cancers are caused by family history. Be aware, self check your breasts monthly, get them checked by Dr at annual physicals and you should be fine!
4 :
everygirl doesnt matter what age they are should be worried about cancer my doctor has told me that he has a patient that is 17 and has breast cancer it can affect any age just keep self checking and dont let it affect you to much

Could stage 4 breast cancer go undetected on a mammogram

Could stage 4 breast cancer go undetected on a mammogram?
I was reading an article in the newspaper about a 62 year old woman that had a clean mammogram. A month after this she found a lump and was then diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer. Is this possible?
Women's Health - 2 Answers

It cant go undetected. Unless the machine is faulty.
2 :
Anything is possible. The mammogram report could come back reading negative for suspicious breast cancer when it's positive, it does happen often. the radiologist may misread it especially new radiologists. usually it takes a biopsy to say for sure that it's positive. A lump has to be the size of a pea to even show up on a mammogram. She may have a had a fast growing tumor. I cured myself of breast cancer naturally with raw foods, eleven years ago. Still in perfect health. Nurse Sue

what are the signs of breast cancer

what are the signs of breast cancer?
i know one sign of breast cancer is a lump on your breast, but where about on the breast will it be? and are there any other signs? what age can you get breast cancer at? thanks.
Cancer - 5 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
The lump is IN the breast and it can be anywhere. Most people who get breast cancer are over 50 years old this why screening starts when you are 40.
2 :
A lump in (not on) the breast is a possible sign of breast cancer in adult women. Your questions show you're 14, so it would not be a possible sign of breast cancer for you. There are some other possible signs of possible breast cancer, but at your age you really don't need to know them, let alone be looking out for them. When I was diagnosed with breast cancer, I was classed as a 'younger woman'; that was because I was only 50, which is pretty young for breast cancer. Breast cancer is almost unheard of in under 25s (let alone young teens), fewer than 0.1% of all those diagnosed with it are under 30, only 5% are under40; most (80) are over 50, and the average age at diagnosis is a little over 60. And most breast lumps, even in older women, aren't cancer. Talk to your mum and/or your school nurse if you're worried; they'll be able to reassure you
3 :
Signs and symptoms of breast cancer include: Changes in size or shape of the breast Dimpling of the breast tissue Orange peel appearance Nipple discharge Nipple flaking and peeling or becoming inverted (twisted) All of these signs should be evaluated promptly by a qualified physician even with a normal mammogram. Pain typically is a very late sign. Not an early one. Lump could be anywhere and feels different or has a detectable thickness, different from the surrounding tissues. It is good for any woman to know the natural feel of their breasts. Many lumps too are not cancerous. Family history of breast cancer is important to know in determining your probability or chance of getting breast cancer. However some people develop breast cancer with no family history, such as a sister, mother, or daughter with breast cancer. However should you have a strong family history of cancer, there are tests that can be done to determine if there is genetic probability. Other factors that have been found to increase the incidence of breast cancer include aging (older women typically acquire breast cancer more often than younger women) Menopause at a later age Obesity Alcohol intake Being female (men get breast cancer too, however their incidence is lower) See very reputable link below from the Mayo clinic on this information. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/breast-cancer/DS00328/DSECTION=symptoms
4 :
Often there are no outward signs of breast cancer that you can see or feel. If there are outward signs, the more common ones include a lump, an area of thickening, or a dimple in the breast. Less common signs include breast swelling and redness or an enlarged underarm lymph node. But even if you have one or more of these signs, it still doesn't mean you have breast cancer. Remember that most breast lumps turn out to be benign (not cancerous). Still, it's extremely important that you SEE YOUR DOCTOR RIGHT AWAY if you're worried that you might have breast cancer. Having your doctor take a look will ease your worry, and if anything is found, you'll be able to take care of it quickly. Physical examination of the breast is one way to find breast cancer. You can read about other screening methods for detecting breast cancer in our Screening & Testing section. To find out whether specific symptoms are associated with breast cancer, read the Breastcancer.org experts' answers to common questions about: * lumps * nipple changes * cysts * breast pain You can also learn how to perform breast self-examination. And you can read more about the risk factors for breast cancer.
5 :
My "Lump" was deep inside the ducts. And I, nor the Doctor can feel anything. So the only way they found My Lump, was on a Mammogram and Ultrasound, followed by a Biopsy. I am 42

If they cure breast cancer, will they make the cure free or discounted because of all the donation

If they cure breast cancer, will they make the cure free or discounted because of all the donation?
money that was given to discover the cure OR do you believe as I do that such a cure would be worth billions and they would expect to get their billions and in reality by donating money to find a cure for breast cancer you are just lining the pockets of corporate greed. Do you think there should be a law governing the marketing of cures for diseases that are found with money that has been donated? Nikki that is exactly my point!!!! If we paid for the development of the cure, why then are we paying to use the cure?

1 :
No. It would be nice. But the donations go to research and development, they'll still have to be paid to keep up with supply, and there would probably be some lining of pockets. It would be no different than the money donated to AIDS research, and people still paying for their treatment. EDIT: Yes. I think there should be a law, or a budget, something that would allow the treatments for free. There is a new "drip" that they've been using locally in "experimental" phase for Autism. The kids who've undergone it have shown huge improvement, but we would have to save for years to even get on the list. Cancer, AIDS, it's ridiculous that people can't afford to have a better life, or in some cases LIVE. EDIT: Like I said SOME money would have to go for supply, just to keep up with production, but they could absolutely discount it, a big discount, if it weren't for "lining the pockets"
2 :
They are not going to find a cure. Too many people are employed in the research of this disease, and too many companies are making money from the drugs and the treatment for this disease. Contemplate if you will how many researchers and labs will be out of business if a cure was found. And if you still doubt it, watch a little movie, or read the book it was based on called And the Band Played On. It's all about money and prestige, has nothing to do with curing people.
3 :
I think all health care should be free like in Canada
4 :
Usually to cure breast cancer you drink enough water and eat healthy and maintain that health and being happy and if they find a cure they probably do give it out, but basically if you get cancer it is for a reason. If you got cancer and/or if you are told and/or believe that you have it then eat healthy and it should go away, otherwise it may be removed perhaps, but I trust the immune system of the body to have multiple chances at fixing something and I believe it may be that you need fluids to drink to clear out that unhealthiness and then eat vegetables and healthy foods (vegetation source foods, processed less, and water and proper digestion {and mind and immune system help to support proper digestion}). Breast Cancer may mean something is wrong or it was just some growth paranoias/fears that gave it to them, or it is because of trying to alter yourself and/or misunderstandings and/or the food and liquids may be bad if they are more processed, but if it was mislabeled/mistaken it shouldn't hurt if you don't want it too and to cause this don't eat meat (cancerous perhaps) so basically to quit meat eat rice with seasonings instead and/or soy protein products and to get off of meat also stop eating it and making it, because it is usually bad to eat, so don't try to make it to be eaten if that is what you want and/or not because that is probably what you need (vegetable base foods and water, preferably fresh air/water and if not then fresh foods and fresh air and water and being healthy and clean and healed and stop eating bad, read ingredients if you can and choose your own food that is good to eat, such as vegetation/plants/fruit/vegetables that tastes good). The internet tends to have many rumors and/or mistranlsations and/or misunderstandings, and sometimes conversation is misunderstood and sometimes people get scared of misunderstandings.
5 :
I am in complete agreement with Charm. In fact in my crazy opinion, there are cures for Cancer as well as AIDs, but too much money is being made on the research and therefore why cure when we could continue banking on the donations and prescriptions of meds. But I do agree with you about there being a law to govern the marketing.
6 :
*stands in applause to Nikki, but sad to admit Charm is right* With our lovely country the government and CEOs would (and are) line their pockets because of greed. The government finds ways to line their own pockets. There needs to be laws governing and capping the government's salary... oh wait there is... It's called the Constitution (which is NOT followed by today's government

Should i shave my head for breast cancer

Should i shave my head for breast cancer?
Im a 17 year old female, and i want to shave my head for breast cancer awareness. My grandmother and some of my other family members have had breast cancer. I want to know if i should or not my mom says if i want to do it. But my grandfather is disgusted by the idea. A few of my friends support the idea. But i want some opinions please and thank you. I forgot to say but yes i want to donate it :). Thank you for the responses so far.

I think that is would be absolutely wonderful of you to do it. That takes a lot of courage, and I think people would be very proud of you. You can also donate your hair to Locks of Love. That is something that really is up to you, but if you are willing to, I think it would be fantastic and definitely raise awareness. I just want to say that I think that is a very selfless thing to do, and I very much respect you for it.
2 :
If you can get sufficient sponsorship to make it worthwhile, go for it. Keep in mind that not all breast cancer treatments cause hair loss and if you are only doing it to raise awareness rather than to raise money for a breast cancer charity then a pink ribbon is probably more effective.
3 :
Pretty extreme, shaving your head imho. Besides, would people know the reason why you shaved your head is because you want to promote breast cancer awareness? People might get the wrong impression.
4 :
I know someone who had Liver Cancer. The doctor gave her 3 months to live. She ended surviving for a whole year!! But, when she became more sick, she began to be depressed. Her daughter was so sad to see her mother depressed that she shaved her head just for her mother because she had Liver Cancer. She wanted to let her mother know that she is not alone in the war against cancer. If you believe I think you should shave your head because it's what you stand up for. I wish you the best!!
5 :
My opinion? Honestly? I think you may be misunderstood. Shaving your head is more likely to be interpreted as an attention seeking act, rather than an act to raise awareness of breast cancer UNLESS you are totally committed to campaigning, gaining sponsorship and raising funds to donate to a cancer research foundation

Can an 18 year old girl get breast cancer

Can an 18 year old girl get breast cancer?
If so, how rare is it? and what percentage of women get breast cancer at 18? I'm turning 18 should I start getting mammograms?
Women's Health - 4 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
from 16 and higher u can get breast cancer idk the percentage srry
2 :
they do, but the percentage is very low, and usually only in those whose female relatives have it. you don't want to start mammograms yet, you are too young, but you should have a nurse teach you how to do a proper breast self exam and make a practise of it.
3 :
It is not common for an 18 year old to get breast cancer. I think you don't start getting mammograms until you are in your mid 30s to early 40s. If your family has a history of breast cancer then you should talk to you doctor about when you should start getting them done since it will probably be earlier.
4 :
It's rare, but it can happen. That's why the doctor starts to examine your breasts at physicals and pelvic exams by that age.
