Is it possible for a 14 year old to get Breast Cancer?
I am 14 and I noticed that I have a bump on the side of my breast. My mother had Breast Cancer twice and my grandmother had it once. I'm afraid that it could be hereditary.

it is possible since it runs in your family I would check into it with your doctor but you are young so it may just be your breast tissue making your breast be bumpy I exsperienced the same thing when I was about your age all I did was massage them and I talked to my doctor he said it is normal my bumps were on the right sides in case that might help you out.Talk to your mom about this bump and see what she thinks about it.good luck

It is possible, however it is more likely that it is a cyst or just the natural texture of your breast. there is a hereditary risk, and it is even more likely if your mom had breast cancer while pregnant with you. to be safe, you should go to your doctor and get it checked out. good luck!

The chance of a 14 year old having breast cancer is very small. At your age "lumpy" breasts are generally just a sign of development. Breast cancer is only hereditary in about 10% of cases. Your mother is classed as a primary relative, your grandmother as a secondary relative, normally a hereditary risk is only considered if 2 or more primary relatives develop breast cancer. You don't mention the age at which your mother and grandmother developed breast cancer nor if it was your maternal or paternal grandmother.These factors are also considered in calculating your risk factors. Even though the risk is infinitesimally small, you should get it checked, just to give yourself peace of mind. It is great that you have started checks already!

Breast cancer in under 25s is almost unheard of, even in those rare cases where there is hereditary breast cancer in the family. And hereditary breast cancer IS rare - only 5 - 10% of all cases are hereditary and due to a rare faulty inherited gene. Because your mother had breast cancer, when you are older you will be watched more carefully - perhaps more frequent mammograms and checks - even if her cancer wasn't due to one of the two faulty genes known to be responsible for hereditary breast cancer (BRCA1 and BRCA2); this will be a precaution in case there are as yet undiscovered inherited genes that can lead to breast cancer. Even if your mother does carry one of the faulty genes, your chances of having inherited it are 50%. And inheriting it wouldn't mean you would definitely get breast cancer. Was your grandmother who had breast cancer your mother's mother or your father's? Unless several members of the same side of a family have had the same cancer, it's unlikely to be hereditary. And cancer that's diagnosed after the age of 50 is less likely to be hereditary. Most breast lumps, even in women over 50, aren't cancerous. The best thing you can do is discuss this with your mother, and decide with her whether you need to visit the doctor. Good luck.

Hey Kiddo, Dont freak out yet, get someone to take you to a doctor. It is common in young women to have lumps that form in the breast. I had this as well at the same age,and had it removed when I was 15. It was not cancer. It was called Fibroadenoma. Fibroadenoma of the breast is a benign fibroepithelial tumor. Benign means NON-CANCEROUS. My doctor at the time described it as "abnormal tissue" that has hardened. My cousin is 13 years younger than me and had the same thing at your age.
