Does biology have anything to do with Breast Cancer

Does biology have anything to do with Breast Cancer?
I believe that studies of heredity and genetics in Biology is somewhat connected to Breast Cancer symptoms. My friend thinks that its more on the Physiology/Anatomy side? Who is right and why?

Does it have ANYTHING to do with it? Of course. What doesn't really have anything to do with another, if you really think about it? Besides, there really isn't a right or wrong to it. Biology and other fields of science as well as all other subjects are simply general names given for those areas of study. They don't really mean anything. You just have to learn the subjects, learn about, in this case, breast cancer(and everything else) and experience more and more and you will define it on your own. Why listen to what names others give things when you have a mind of your own? Use it or lose it=]
2 :
About 10% of breast cancer patients can be connected to family history. But it's not that simple. I had BC but to my knowledge, no family history. The key statement here is "to my knowledge." My dad is from a family of 12 kids and I have no clue about their breast cancer history. As to the other half of your question, I don't understand what you mean about physiology/anatomy connection to breast cancer. And the beginning of your question is about breast cancer symptoms??? You mean lumps in the breast

How long has breast cancer been around

How long has breast cancer been around?
My friend has been saying all of the women in her family have had breast cancer since 1825. My friend is known to lie a lot... She also says her brother got cancer... Idk. But if he really has cancer I would feel bad... But anyway, how long has breast cancer been around; before or after and 1825?And if you can, be specific? I know that, but what I mean is when was it classified as breast cancer?

try looking it up on wikipedia

..the dawn of humanity
3 :
Probably about as long as breast tissue and mammary glands have been around.
4 :
I'll bet Eve died from it.
5 :
The oldest description of cancer in humans was of breast cancer. It was found in an Egyptian papyrus written between 3000-1500 BC and referred to tumours of the breast http://medicineworld.org/cancer/history.html This document from 1811 describes a woman's mastectomy due to breast cancer http://www.jstor.org/pss/2928516?cookieSet=1 I would be inclined to take your friend's claim about every woman in her family having had it since 1825 with a pinch of salt though
6 :
The history of breast cancer is a long and far too often tragic one. The earliest recorded cases of the disease date back to ancient Egypt. The three earliest documented cases arise from the famous Edwin Smith Papyrus, one of whom was a man. Breast cancer treatment began in the 18th century and is still being researched and developed to this day

Are you sad that breast cancer awareness month is over

Are you sad that breast cancer awareness month is over?
I think we NEED more awareness for breast cancer, afterall it primarly affects women over the age of 50, less then 1% of men, and does not affect children. Susan Komen is a $1.5 billion dollar machine and I believe we should give till it hurts. Thoughts?

I don't see what good it does to be aware of breast cancer. Don't get me wrong, it's an important issue, but just walking around wearing pink for a month doesn't help anybody. Do some fundraisers, volunteer, sure, but I think everyone is aware of it by this point.
2 :
Companies can slap a pink ribbon on any product and watch their sales rise without having to donate anything to any sort of breast cancer research center. I understand the importance of helping to stop breast cancer, but I'm tired of people raising awareness of the topic. The facebook status that went around a while ago really got my goat. You know the one. Girls and women would post "I like it on the (insert purse location here" to raise awareness for breast cancer. Completely unrelated. What needs to be done is promotion for prevention of the disease. Yes, most cases of breast cancer are preventable by simply living a healthier lifestyle. I think a lot of people just assume that it's a random disease that strikes at random but trust me, it isn't. I work in a nuclear medicine department at one of the largest University Hospitals in the country. I see plenty of cancer patients including those diagnosed with breast cancer and can't help but to think how some of these women have practically given this disease to themselves by living a life full of bad habits. So no, I'm not sad in the least that the most annoying month of the year has ended.

Can you really get breast cancer by sleeping in your bra

Can you really get breast cancer by sleeping in your bra?
they say you can get breast cancer by sleeping in a bra, is it true?
Women's Health - 11 Answers

absolutely false!
2 :
NO!!!! Dont believe that crap!
3 :
no it just stops the circulation in your breast. although its not bad at all. it just makes them a little smaller.
4 :
No way, that's completely not true. I've been sleeping in my bra for like 3 years and nothings wrong.
5 :
Absolutely not. And not from using deodorant, either!
6 :
no, you can't so don't believe that.
7 :
wow, i've never even heard that one before...
8 :
It is a myth that wearing a bra (during sleep or at any time) increases the risk of breast cancer. There are no data from scientifically sound studies that show any increase in the risk of developing breast cancer from wearing a bra. This myth may have started with a general observation that breast cancer is more common in Western, industrialized countries where wearing bras is more common than in the developing world. However, to then draw the conclusion that it is the bra-wearing that causes the breast cancer is completely erroneous. Women in developing countries have shorter life spans during which to develop breast cancer and do not undergo breast-cancer screening. It is probably for these reasons that their chances of being diagnosed with breast cancer are lower, not because they are less likely to wear bras. Bottom line: If wearing a supportive bra to bed allows you to sleep more comfortably, you can do so without worrying about any health risks.
9 :
no absolutely false. BUT sleeping with your bra on has disadvantages but it doesn't necessary lead to cancer -poor blood circulation in the chest area.. - and you cn't breathe efficiently while wearing your bra during sleep. I sleep with my bra but i unhook it first. Goodnight!! ZzZZZZZzzzz!
10 :
no that is so false
11 :
no not true but i don't understand you chick sleeping with your bras on ,, that bad , you skin there need air

i have this lump on my breast it hurts when i touch it and i didnt find it weird until i noticed the other one didnt have it...is it breast cancer?

Not necassarily, sometimes, there can be lumps that hurt. But best thing is to check with a doctor, because if it is, it can be cured more easy at the beginning. Sorry love. best of luck =) xoxo God Bless.
2 :
Please go to meet doctor and accept his advisers
3 :
The lump should feel like a pea and should be hard, even when you press hard. If you are concerned go to the doctors to get it checked, you can never be too safe.
4 :
Usually the lumps associated with breast cancer are painless..
5 :
It's more likely that the lump is something else - perhaps a cyst or glandular tissue that appears more noticeable when you have your period. However, this does not totally exclude breast cancer, so you should see your doctor and arrange to have some tests done (mammogram, ultrasound) to make sure. Don't delay!
6 :
well most women think they may have breast cancer due to them seeing a lump on there breast but it may not be .women who have a lump on their breast but can't feel it at all then they a most certainly considered as one of those who have breast cancer but lucky are those who a able to feel the lump on their breast and perhaps know that it is there therefore they don't have to endure the pains that the infected others have to go through.
7 :
Breast cancer is rarely painful or even tender in the early stages. Breast cancer is uncommon under 40, rare under 30 and almost unheard of under 20 - your Q&A's suggest you are well under 30. 80% of breast lumps are NOT cancer. If your period is due in the next week, or you currently have your period, wait for week after your period finishes. If the lump is still there, get it checked. The majority of breast lumps, especially in younger women are either hormonal or cysts, but if it doesn't go down it is worth getting it checked to be sure.
8 :
JESUS .....
9 :
A quick glance at your Q&A shows that you're 14. As such, your chances of having breast cancer are as close to zero as makes just about no difference. If you had it, your case would make headline news and would be written up in medical journals worldwide. Breast cancer is almost unheard of in under 25s (let alone young teens); fewer than 0.1% of those diagnosed with it are under 30 and only 5% are under 40. Most (80%) are over 50. I was classed as a 'younger woman' when I was diagnosed with breast cancer; I was 50. Most breast lumps, especially in young women, and even in women over 50, aren't cancer. Pain is rarely a sign of breast cancer; most people diagnosed with it have felt no pain. Your breasts are still growing and developing and what you describe is almost certainly normal hormonal activity and development. Yalk to your mother about this; if you don't feel comfortable doing that, talk to to your school nurse. She will be used to girls having worries like this and will be able to reassure you
10 :
IF THE LUMP HURT YOU NEED TO HAVE IT CHECK BY THE DOCTOR.
11 :
14 is very young to have breast cancer but like I always say, nothing is impossible. I hate it when most people say pain is not an indication of breast cancer. This was the only reason I did a self check, I had a very sharp pain in my breast and when I checked, I found the lump. I later found out that 2 of my sisters and 2 of my nieces also had the same thing happen to them. Let me give you some advice about breast lumps. At your age, it could be just fibro cystic disease which is NOT cancer. It's just annoying tissue that gets hard and hurts when hit or touched. Also, there are fatty tumors which is just as the name indicates. It's only fat. A cyst is a fluid fill sac that is usually not cancerous. When you are developing which you still are at 14,( we all had this) you have a hormonal lump, That's my medical description, no one else says that. but it's part of development. This lump when touched, banged into even slightly can hurt a lot. I think that's what you have. Whenever you are uncomfortable with your body and you feel something is wrong, see a Dr. Even if it's nothing, it will put your mind at ease. So ask your mother to see a Dr because you feel scared or worried about it. Pain is the body's way of telling you something is wrong or could be wrong. Finally, breast cancer usually happens to post menopausal women. Those no longer in child bearing years. I know you're alright but I just wanted you to know and understand the different types of things that can go on in our breast. I hope you feel a little better about it. Still, just for peace of mind, you should see the Dr because if you don't, even after all you've been told, you will still have that nagging feeling in your mind and wonder if it's cancer. So go see her OK. Feel better. God bless

Is there really any relationship between breastfeeding and breast cancer

Is there really any relationship between breastfeeding and breast cancer?
I have heard a thousand times that women that do not breastfeed or start breastfeeding late stand a greater risk of breast cancer. I wonder how true it is.
Cancer - 5 Answers

1 :
Women who breast feed are far less likely to develop breast cancer.
2 :
The phrasing of that "rumor" is less than accurate. The correct relationship is that women who breastfeed have a reduced chance of developing breast cancer. Additionally, the longer a woman breastfeeds, the more protection the breastfeeding provides. Basically, breastfeeding serves as one protective factor against developing breast cancer. Other factors include diet and exercise.
3 :
There is a correlation between breast feeding and a decrease in breast cancer.A group out of Boston did a study of 9000 women and found that not only does it decreases breast cancer but,it does not matter what age you start.Drs.have known for a long time that breast feeding at a younger age provided some increased protection from breast cancer. This study proved that no matter what age you start breast feeding, you will get the benefit.
4 :
all the so-called experts say that women have a less chance of developing breast cancer if the breastfeed their babies it has something to do with the milk glands.
5 :
My friend's mom breastfed all 3 of her kids and she still developed breast cancer in her late 40's. Basically - it can happen to anyone at anytime. Just go for yuor check-up exams and live a healthy life
