After finding a breast lump, I had a blood test that came back normal. With a normal blood count, is it still possible to have breast cancer?

Blood tests are not used to diagnose breast cancer. If a lump is felt the doctor will usually send you for a mammogram or sonogram (depending on your age). If this shows a lesion that is suspicious for cancer then you need a biopsy which is where the surgeon removes a small part of the mass and sends it to the pathologist to be analyzed to see if the mass is cancerous.
2 :
Most definitely. Breast cancer is not like prostate cancer( detected via a prostate sarcoma antigen or PSA test). Usually it is detected by breast self examination, mammography, and sonography. However a biopsy is needed to confirm the diagnosis. Usually the lump is surgically excised and sent to a pathologist for examination. The patient can elect to have a lymph node dissection done at the same time. Several lymph nodes nearest to the suspected cancer are removed and sent for examination as well. This will tell the doctors if the cancer has spread-if the lump is a cancer tumor. Knowing the type, and stage of the cancer is crucial to choosing the right treatment.

It's a possibility, because breast cancer can't be detect from blood test. The following test usually used to detect breast cancer : 1. Halo Test. This is an amazing new early detection test similar to a cervical pap smear that is relatively quick and painless. It involves getting fluid from the breast through a pumping action similar to a breast pump. No needles or radiation involved. Since this test is new it may be hard to find a doctor in your area who will perform this test. 2. Thermography. This is a great early detection test that can start screening woman as young as 20 years old. Approximately 25% of women are younger than 49 when they get breast cancer. This is especially important as these cancers tend to be more aggressive than cancers of post menopausal women. 3. Sonogram. A sonogram used in conjunction with other tests such as a mammogram or x-ray can be very good at finding tumors. However, this test is only as good as the technician reading the pictures and is subject to interpretation. 4. Mammogram. A mammogram is similar to an x-ray in that it takes pictures of the breast using radiation. In fact, this test is 1,000 times more radio active than an x-ray. This test is also not recommended for women under 40 and has a significant amount of error. Unfortunately, approximately 20% of all breast cancer goes undetected on a mammogram and patients are often treated for cancer too late because of this margin of error. 5. Self Exam. This test should never be ignored. If you feel something, say something. Go directly to your doctor for a very good exam. Make sure to have additional tests performed and get a second opinion if necessary. If you see any physcial changes in your breast such as bleeding, puckering or lumps, please see your doctor right away and go for diagnositc testing immediately

Can a physical attack cause breast cancer

Can a physical attack cause breast cancer?
My girlfriend and I were play fighting and I accidently hit in her right breast. I didnt think I hit her that hard but then the next day she said that she felt a small hard bump around that area and it looked slightly bruised. I'm praying that it's just small bruise that will go away in a couple of days, but I'm really worried. Can this cause complications or even lead to breast cancer in the future?

No that does not cause cancer. If she has a breast lump though she needs to get it checked by the doc.
2 :
most cancers such as Breast Cancer are genetic. You just bruised her.
3 :
No, playing like you did would only cause bleeding and which then became a consolidated blood clot. The body will dissolve the clot with time. No one gets cancer from something like you describe. Stop worrying.
4 :
hit her harder!!!!
5 :
No, not at all. I was in a very bad head on collision with a drunk driver in a pickup truck and I smashed into the steering wheel. My entire chest was black and the Xray tech said I was going to have some very bad bruises, which I did. It took forever to go away, but that was it; a lot of pain, terrible bruising and that was it.
6 :
Thank god.....breast injuries do not cause breast cancer! "Can an injury to the breast cause cancer? No, a bruise or hit to the breast won't cause cancer. If a cancer develops in a spot that's been injured, it's just a coincidence." http://www.stmarymercy.org/services/breast/breasthealth.shtml "There is not a connection between breast cancer and injury or trauma to the breasts. This is one of many, many myths about breast cancer which have arisen over the years. Injury to the breast tissue neither causes breast cancer nor increases your risk of getting it. The truth is that we still do not know the cause of breast cancer. What sometimes happens is that a woman suffers a trauma to the breast and either examines the breast closely herself or goes to the doctor, who does a clinical breast exam and perhaps orders mammogram. Ultimately, cancer may be discovered. This process may lead some people to believe that breast injury causes breast cancer, but in fact, the outcome was strictly coincidental. The injury led to the detection of breast cancer; it did not cause the cancer." http://www.healthcentral.com/newsdetail/408/1923.html "Myth: An Injury to the Breast Causes Cancer. Fact: Injury or trauma to the breast does not cause breast cancer. However, the breast may become bruised or develop a benign (non-cancerous) lump as the result of an injury. Fat necrosis is a rare benign breast condition that occurs when fatty breast tissue swells or becomes tender. When the body attempts to repair the damaged breast tissue, the affected area may sometimes be replaced with firm scar tissue. Fat necrosis may be mistaken as cancer on mammogram; however symptoms of fat necrosis usually subside within a month." http://www.imaginis.com/breasthealth/bc_myths2.asp

she should see a doctor soon...yes physically that can happen!

How do the "I like it" Facebook statuses have to do with breast cancer awareness

How do the "I like it" Facebook statuses have to do with breast cancer awareness?
My facebook page is filling with these statuses starting with "I like it....." Internet says that it's to promote breast cancer awareness, but really? What does one have to do with the other?

well then when you click the i like it button, it is either shows one's concern about the topic or having a like (favorite) about the topic, well since it is for the breast cancer awareness people how liked the topic shows concern about it.
2 :
It's a viral campaign going around FaceBook. Women are supposed to change their statuses to meet a certain criteria. Foremost, the status must begin with "I like it". Common statuses will be "I like it on the bed" or "I like it on the kitchen counter". Such statuses are purposely worded to be misconstrued as sexual innuendo, making the reader believe that the woman is posting about her favorite location to have sex. However, these statuses are ACTUALLY about where women like to leave their purses. The main idea is that women can come together in their little joke by means of a common thread, being their purses. The campaign is double sided, its original goal being that when posting such a status, you are also being aware of the original purpose, which is breast cancer awareness. There was a similar campaign where women were posting their bra's colour and subsequently drove males crazy when they would not shed light on what their cryptic colour-coded statuses meant

does abuse to the breast increase the risk of breast cancer

does abuse to the breast increase the risk of breast cancer?
I have been told by many people that getting hit in the breast increases chances of breast cancer, please answer i really need to know.

no.
2 :
i think so but not entirely sure
3 :
no it won't :)
4 :
getting hit in the breast increases the likelihood of the duct connecting the mammary gland to the nipple being damaged. it doesn't increase the likelihood of cancer. cancer cells are normal cells whose dna has become "corrupt" and the cell cycle becomes distorted. they proliferate too quickly and unregulated. this can be caused by many things (ie, uv rays) but it has not been linked to bruising.

I heard that too

Here is some good info I found: bcpinstitute.org

If a doctor asks me to come in to get an ultrasound-guided biopsy does that mean i have breast cancer

If a doctor asks me to come in to get an ultrasound-guided biopsy does that mean i have breast cancer?
I just recently went to get a mammogram and i got a call saying to come in for an ultrasound-guided biopsy. I just looked up what that was and i am worried now that i have breast cancer.... do i definaltty.I get a mammogram every month and everytime it turns out good. Why is it happening this time?

It only means the radiologist saw something, they do not know what yet. The biopsy will show what it is, it does not have to be cancer or malignant. That is why they are testing. A mammogram is not a be all end all test, it is just a guide for either ruling out or to see if further testing is needed. Even if you are a survivor of or genetically susceptible to breast cancer why do you get a monthly mammogram? That is a lot of unneeded radiation.
2 :
Your doctor seems to be doing a poor job communicating with you. You should not be given partial information and unexplained procedures. Give him or her a call and ask for clarification. I also do not understand why you would be getting "a mammogram every month". Even persons with previous breast cancer usually get a scan every 3 months. In any event, the purpose of a biopsy is extract a sample of suspicious tissue for assessment by a pathologist. Your mammogram may have appeared irregular, so this is the next step to definitively determine whether normal, precancerous, or cancerous cells are present. Remain poised and follow through with the procedure. You will know the results within a day or two. Once again, I urge you to speak with your doctor to get a full explanation of what's going on.
3 :
No it doesnt mean that at all hun dont worry , just means they may have found a slight difference in your mammogram and want to make sure its nothing dont fear and make sure you ask the doc all these questions when you go
4 :
Relax sweetie. All it means is that they found abnormal tissues in your breast and they want to take a tiny piece of it out for microscopic examination. it could be something as simple as a fibroadenoma or a cyst. Very simple to treat, and the biopsy won't hurt a bit. The upside of all those mammograms is that they found it early.
5 :
Lol your screwed
6 :
When ever the radiologist sees an abnormal growth or mass on the mammogram, his first job is to inform your Dr of his findings. It doesn't mean it's cancer, It procedure to automatically call for a biopsy to rule out cancer. The biopsy can also tell your Dr what else it is if it's not cancer. Lumps can mean more than one thing. So relax, it's just normal procedure. Your Dr. is concerned for you. Why do you get mammograms every month? Do you have other problems. I know, I'm being nosy, sorry. Any way, have the biopsy and hope for the best. I wish you good health ADD I just read Little.. can't remember the name. Anyway, She's exaggerating about the biopsy. When I had to have mine, I was terrified. I won't lie about that. Only because I had visions of foot long needles. The radiologist was so gentle, She injected Lidocane to numb it. As she inserted the needle, she also continued to release the numbing agent. I was so shocked that there was no pain with the biopsy, By the way, 90% of biopsies are done with needles. She has a picture of your MRI, Cat scan and mammogram in front of her so she knows she getting the needle in the right place. I had 8 biopsies that day. 8 times she inserted that needle because I had 2 tumors in my breast. If I can take it, you will have no problem Hospital have their own way of doing biopsies. My sister lives in Connecticut and her Dr did the biopsy with a needle, but the procedure for it was different than mine. Either way, don't listen to miss negative down there because she's wrong or else she had a Dr who was in a hurry and hurt her. I hope that's not the case, Maybe it really hurt her, and it shouldn't have,. Sorry Little....Hope this puts you mind at ease a little. God bless you.
7 :
if your mammogram shows abnormality you must have biopsy. do not delay. every day counts.just mammogram cannot confirm cancer. only biopsy can rule out or confirm your condition so hurry up and have biopsy. life is just one lifetime. do not miss out when very good options of getting rid by advanced treatments for you. may god bless

18 years ago, I made an appointment for a mamogram on my 40th birthday.... went in, had it done and the next day, my doctor called me at work to tell me I needed a biopsy... I had what is known as a NEEDLE BIOPSY where they stick a long needle with a hook on it through the breast and then an x-ray of the breast is taken... VERY uncomfortable test by the way.. Then and there, they took me into the OR and removed the mass and the surrounding tissue (about a POUND of mass and tissue was removed)... when they were satisfied they got enough of the surrounding tissue, they closed the wound....they sent a piece of that tissue to the lab to do a frozen section on it and it came back positive... The doctor was certain he had removed all the damaged tissue but I went for treatments anyway... ALL IS well... I have had NO recurrence of the cancer and still get regular mamograms ...I am totally cancer free and have been that way for these past 18 years.. SO, even if there IS something in the breast (and 95% of the time it is just a non-malignant cyst so don't worry so much)...chances are, everything will be fine EITHER WAY so stop worrying... it is ALWAYS better to be safe then sorry...

When I was at Meijer the other day, I saw a rack full of pink kitchen utensils with the breast cancer ribbon

When I was at Meijer the other day, I saw a rack full of pink kitchen utensils with the breast cancer ribbon?
They were KitchenAid brand. The pink ones were the same price as the regular ones. I was wondering, if you buy the pink one, does that give any money to breast cancer research, or is it just pink for awareness? Sorry to post here, I don't know if this is the right category or not but I couldn't find one more suited.
