My mom had breast cancer a few years and survived. I'm 15 and I've heard that you can get it even at a young age. I've been told that if my boobs are really tender and sore then it could be that, however I know that at this age my boobs are still growing. Is that the reason for the soreness or do you think I could have breast cancer and should get it checked out? Thanks you for your help <3

The chances of breast cancer at 15 are as close to zero as makes almost no difference. The chances of it occurring in both breasts are much smaller. It's almost unheard of in under 25s (let alone teens) and in fact fewer than0.1% of those diagnosed with it are under 30 and only 5% under 40. Most (80%) are over 50. Pain and tenderness are very rarely symptoms of breast cancer - most people diagnosed with breast cancer have felt no pain. And the fact that the soreness is in both breasts makes it even less likely that this is anything to worry about. Only 5 - 10% of breast cancer cases are hereditary, and breast cancer diagnosed after the age of 50 is even less likely to be hereditary. One case of breast cancer in your family doesn't increase your risk, although as the daughter of someone who's had breast cancer you will, in the future, probably be offered earlier routine mammograms as a precaution. Even in those rare cases when breast cancer is hereditary, the chances of it happening to a teenager are still very, very close to zero. Someone has been giving you misinformation about breast cancer. Talk to your mother about it.

The best way to relieve yourself of the worry is to talk with your Mom and Doctor. As was reported in the news just last week breast cancer is possible as early as the age of 10 but.... very highly unlikely. Soreness and tenderness at any age is not an indicator of breast cancer and is very common
