reconstructive surgery is generally covered by all insurance companies after a mastectomy. it is considered a necessary medical procedure after such radial surgery. if you don't have insurance i'm sure that you could get state assistance if you have such an ongoing medical condition. if i were you i would look into medicaid for your state. also something that you need to look into since you are so young is a cancer policy through an insurance company. it costs about 120 dollars a year and it covers so many things if you are diagnosed with cancer.
3 :
start by talking to the social worker at the cancer center where your mom had her treatment. She/he knows all the resources that are available to cancer patients. If they can't help you they will know who can. I hope and pray for the best

Is there an age limit for breast cancer

Is there an age limit for breast cancer?

Cancer does not discriminate. Go to a doctor. It is most likely a cyst, but it's not worth risking it. Good luck x
2 :
Any cancer can strike anyone at any age and even males can develop breast cancer but to answer your question it sounds more like a cyst.
3 :
No I am afraid there isn't. Breast cancer at your age is very unusual but not impossible. Always get a suspicious lump checked out, whatever your age!
4 :
I've heard cancer usually doesn't hurt. It could something serious, so you should have it checked out, but I'm sure it's nothing to worry about. :)
5 :
it probely is not cancer, but no there is no age limit.
6 :
Hon, unfortunately, there is no age limit when a person can get breast cancer. However, it is less likely for a 16 year old person to develop it. That said, you need to go see a gynecologist for a breast exam. That lump can be benign (which means non-cancerous). Sometimes girls/women who drink a lot of caffeine or have a family history of cysts develop whats known as fibrocystic breasts, which cause the breasts to feel lumpy. Your doctor is the best person to help you sort this out right now. Good luck!
7 :
Unfortunately No! They recommend you get a mammogram even into your eighties. Its best to get a yearly mammogram to check for cancer.
8 :
It's rare, but does happen. My doctor actually just told me of a 19 year old who she treated that died from breast cancer. She had found a lump, and ignored it for so long because she figured she was invincable. When she finally went to seek help, it was too late, and she passed away some time later. Breast cancer has a VERY high survival rate- one of the highest of all cancers actually. The key is EARLY detection. Women must be pro-active!

Foods for someone taking chemotherapy for breast cancer

Foods for someone taking chemotherapy for breast cancer?
A good friend of mine has breast cancer and is receiving chemo therapy and soon radiation. She is 54. She is having problems finding foods to eat, and I would like to try and help. She can't eat soy, eggs have caused problems, and cottage cheese made her sick. All your suggestions would be of great help, especially if you have gone through this yourself or with someone close to you.

any green leafy food that is rich in folate because she needs it (beside vit B12)
2 :
I remember not liking a lot of things! It was really rough. Dry toast, no butter worked. Bland, bland, bland works the best. I thought I would become a vegetarian, because the smell of meat was so offensive to me. I was able to eat more things the further away from chemo - I mean, just before the next chemo treatment. I remember that lousy spaghetti that you would get at a coffee shop (I was thinking like Chef Boyardi) spelling? was tolerable to me. Fat was offensive. Strong tasting things. My doctor said I should go on the Sea Food diet. I was so upset at him, because I knew I couldn't handle fish then. He then said to me "if you see it and you want it, eat it". So, what ever she will eat (except soy).
3 :
She can eat whatever she wants or what she likes. Usually, they send you to a Nutritionist before starting Chemo and they suggest drinking "Ensure" to get the essential minerals and vitamins. Did she get medication from her Doctor for nausea? Eating small meals throughout the day will help prevent the nausea.
4 :
I'd say she should eat whatever she can face; eating a healthy diet would of course be desirable but this isn't always possible on chemo. I found bland, starchy foods easiest to eat, especially potatoes and crackers. If your friend is being sick she should report it so that her anti-sickness meds can be changed. Ginger in any form and cola helped my nausea. If she can't face healthy food, she shouldn't worry too much; that and any weight she puts on with steroids can be addressed when chemo is over. Best wishes to your friend for the remainder of her treatment

What's with all the breast cancer awareness

What's with all the breast cancer awareness?
As if there's anyone that doesn't know breast cancer is a problem. I mean do you really think it accomplishes anything? Isn't it just a "girl power" movement and a way for women to try and assert their sexuality?

no its also to help raise money for research and support the fight against it and encourage women to check for breast cancer before its too late. cancer is one of those things where you actually cannot be aware of it.
2 :
october is their awareness month so they promote it a lot. diferent diseases have different months
3 :
If your mother, sister, or grandfather (yes, men can get it too), had breast cancer and died from it, you would want people to support finding a cure. It's not just a "girl power" thing because men can get it too.
4 :
I find it annoying, especially since it's a huge commercial enterprise. All that pink junk they're selling - most of the money doesn't go towards research. I think it's more like a cult than anything. There are so many other cancers that are harder to detect and treat, and we should be made more aware of them. If you are not "aware" of breast cancer by now, you must live on the moon! Don't get me wrong - I support research and awareness, but not fear-mongering. I refuse to be afraid of cancer - it's what the drug companies want. Certainly it's a scary disease to contract, but I know so many survivors. I don't know too many survivors of pancreatic, adrenal, or brain cancer, however. October is also domestic violence awareness month. Pitifully few people are aware of what causes domestic violence, how it's defined, who is victimized, how it can be prevented or escaped. There are a zillion myths surrounding it. I wear a purple ribbon in October, not a pink one

I get bad pimples on my breasts. Could this cause breast cancer

I get bad pimples on my breasts. Could this cause breast cancer?
I have always had 'bad' skin, but the acne and blackheads on my breasts seems to have become worse over the last couple of years. I am always checking my breasts to feel for lumps, and I have not found any as yet, but I am worried with me squeezing the pimples could cause cancer. I do not have a history of breast cancer in my family.

no it's got nothing to do with cancer. it's hormonal based....see a dermatologist, they can prescribe u meds to control ur hormones
2 :
Squeezing and irritating it will not cause cancer. However, it will increase the likelihood of keloid scar formation, and keloid scars are expensive to remove. My best advice is to use acne treatment

Is it still possible for one to still get breast cancer even if they have breast implants

Is it still possible for one to still get breast cancer even if they have breast implants?
If someone gets breast implants & gets all their breast tissue removed & breast sillicon implants in could they still get breast cancer even though their is no breast tissue in the breast anymore? If so. . How?!

I don't think you get all of your breast tissue removed for implants. So, if you still have breast tissue in there yes, you can still get cancer.
2 :
They don't remove breast tissue to do implants. Even women who have mastectomies almost always have some breast tissue remaining. It's not like a discrete organ ... breast tissue reaches from the collarbone to the mid-lower ribcage, from the sternum to the axilla (underarm). Very hard to get it all. Yes, women with implants can get breast cancer. Men can get breast cancer.
3 :
they dont remove any tissue for implants. They still have boobs, so they can still get cancer. Its usually helpful to check for family history as this tyoe of cancer is believed to be related to genes. Actually more men get breast cancer than women do in the UK. It is not necessarily different types of cancer that grow e.g in lungs or whatever. They are given these names usually depending on where they grow.
4 :
Yes because not all of the tissue can be removed. It is far less likely though
