Why does everyone focus mainly on breast cancer?
There are many types of cancer, but why are we so focused on breasts.

Women are important. That is why. If we ditch this cancer then the women could loose their breasts. and by doing that. Population of coming years can't be fed. Pretty much We are the ones who keep this world going.
2 :
Technically, its the most common cancer in humans. although men cant get it, the ratio of women to men is 3:2.
3 :
because next to lung cancer, it's one of the most prevelant cancers

It's not true that 'everyone' focuses on breast cancer. It is certainly true that breast cancer has a higher profile than other cancers, and there is a simple reason for this - hard work. Breast cancer awareness campaigns and Breast Cancer Awareness Month were started by ordinary women, most of them with breast cancer or who had lost family members to breast cancer, to raise awareness so that people knew the symptoms, examined themselves regularly, attended their routine mammograms etc. Enthusiastic participation and hard work by women made it grow into something nationally, then internationally, recognised (and then big business cashed in). People who campaign around illnesses are usually concerned with the illness that's affected them or their family. I know a couple who have a child with a very rare and life-threatening condition (not a cancer). Much of their time is now taken up with campaigning around this condition - fundraising and agitating for more funding for research, more education, more awareness etc. Individuals don't have unlimited time, and choose their campaigns. And that's what the women who started the breast cancer awareness campaign did, and worked their socks off. It's thanks to the hard work of those women that breast cancer is no longer the major killer and the automatic death sentence it used to be - but don't lose sight of the fact that in the US an average os 112 women die from breast cancer every day. That's one every 15 minutes. I agree that awareness needs to be raised about other diseases, including other cancers, and while I hate 'competitive illness' I can see why there is resentment about an imbalance in awareness raising and fund raising. There are other cancer awareness months, ribbons etc; but no cancer campaign has had the sheer hard work put into it that breast cancer awareness has. Anyone can start an awareness campaign for any illness - but if they want it to be as successful as the breast cancer campaigning, they'll have to be prepared to be as dedicated and work as hard.

The Breast Cancer Screening Mistake Millions Make… Posted By Dr. Mercola | October 15 2010 | 18,197 views A Close to ZERO Percent Benefit … In the latest study, researchers analyzed data from over 40,000 Norwegian women with breast cancer and found that those who had mammograms and were treated by special breast cancer medical teams had a 10 percent lower breast cancer death rate than women who had neither. However, they also found that women over the age of 70 who were treated by the special teams had an 8 percent lower death risk from breast cancer, even though they had not received mammograms. What this suggests, and what Dr. H. Gilbert Welch wrote in an accompanying editorial, is that mammograms may have only reduced the cancer death rate by 2 percent -- an amount so small it may as well be zero. So the fact remains that there is no solid evidence that mammograms save lives. Past research has also demonstrated that adding an annual mammogram to a careful physical examination of the breasts does not improve breast cancer survival rates over getting the examination alone. Now, if mammograms were completely safe and capable of reducing your cancer death risk even a small amount, you might be able to make an argument for their use. But mammograms are not only ineffective … they're unsafe as well

Can you get breast cancer from wearing a bra to sleep

Can you get breast cancer from wearing a bra to sleep?
A friend told me that if you wear an underwire bra to bed a lot that it causes breast cancer...

no its just a myth if you wear one in the day whats it going to do at night??
2 :
i dunno abt that and i don;t think its true...but y would u wanna wear a bra to sleep??its so uncomfy
3 :
She's stupid, cancer is usually an internal thing. Wearing a bra to sleep can keep your boobs from getting bigger, though.
4 :
that seems to be so ridiculous..hahahaha
5 :
i dont think so...i kno alot of people that do that but hasn't gotten it. I wear a bra to sleep but nothing has ever happened.
6 :
No, but I can't imagine it being too comfortable.
7 :
probably.....anything can give you cancer these days.
8 :
yes - and if you sit on a toilet seat that a pregnant woman sat on -- you'll get pregnant too!
9 :
I don't believe that there are any studies that prove this scientifically. However, isn't it uncomfortable? Don't they need room to breathe every know and then?
10 :
Of course NOT, this is plain ridiculous.
11 :
a / bra / does NOT / cause cancer
12 :
No thats just a myth, they said that it was a myth on the Tyra Banks show.
13 :
cancer is caused by abnormal cell growth. The only thing your bra strap will do is slow down circulation in the area it is too tight and cause a red mark
14 :
im pretty sure that is just a myth..dont believe everything you hear lol
15 :
I don't think you should be wearing a bra to sleep! Its not good to have constant pressure on parts of you. But I doubt it causes cancer. You should wear a fitted singlet or something if you need a little support.
16 :
This is not true at all. Cancer starts from precancerous cells.
17 :
NO. NEVER breast cancer is causes by cancer cells attacking your breast tissues, causing it to become hard. your friend is wrong.
18 :
No. I always wear a bra to bed. I don't have the biggest boobies by a long shot, but recently it has become uncomfortable to sleep w/o a bra. My tits flop all over the place, and end up in my b'f's mouth!
19 :
that is sooo not true. i'll sometimes wear a bra to sleep and havnt gotten breast cancer!
20 :
There is no scientific proof. It only causes red marks under the breasts, and I think breast cancer is genetics, or sometimes without genetics, best thing is to get checked. Read this article here.. http://www.cancer.org/docroot/MED/content/MED_6_1x_Underwire_Bras.asp?sitearea=MED
21 :
No, there is absolutely no way to get breast cancer from wearing a bra to sleep. It is a highly circuited rumor and is totally untrue. If you are at all concerned about getting breast cancer, the best way to check for it is to make regularly scheduled visits to your doctor, gynecologist. In addition, it is suggested that you administer a self-check in the comfort of your own home for any lumps of irregularities. Have a doctor show you the correct technique to that. These kind of precautions save many womens lives as they are alerted early and are able to take the correct action. I hope this helped.
22 :
doctors are recommending not to wear them to sleep. and not to wear the push ups
23 :
No. There is no documented scientific evidence anywhere that suggests that wearing a bra to bed causes cancer. It's a myth. American Cancer Society: Bras and Breast Cancer Email Rumor http://www.cancer.org/docroot/MED/content/MED_6_1x_Underwire_Bras.asp?sitearea=MED
24 :
I can tell you that it definitely will not cause breast cancer. Although, if the under wire broke through you could cut yourself up pretty bad.
25 :
no
26 :
No! Why do people believe things like that

What are the like the stages of Breast Cancer

What are the like the stages of Breast Cancer?
I'm writing a story about a girls mother having breast cancer and I want to know like the stages or like the important things about it so I can write about it.
Cancer - 2 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
There are 4 basic stages and these are broken down further. There are actually several different types of breast cancer. Some sites I would suggest for your further research are below. The bcna site has a tab for stories, where there are an assortment of personal experiences related by patients, friends and family (including teenage daughters).
2 :
Your exact requirement about Breast cancer is not clear. However please note that once diagnosis is established, before treatment is rendered, more tests are done to determine if the cancer has spread beyond the breast. Using the results of various tests and studies, clinical stage is defined for the patient. This helps define treatment protocol and prognosis. -Stage 1—The cancer is no larger than 2 cm (0.8 in) and no cancer cells are found in the lymph nodes. -Stage 2—The cancer is between 2 cm and 5 cm, and the cancer has spread to the lymph nodes. -Stage 3A—Tumor is larger than 5 cm (2 in) or is smaller than 5 cm, but has spread to the lymph nodes, which have grown into each other. -Stage 3B—Cancer has spread to tissues near the breast, (local invasion), or to lymph nodes inside the chest wall, along the breastbone. -Stage 4—Cancer has spread to skin and lymph nodes beyond the axilla or to other organs of the body. Surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy are all utilized in the treatment of breast cancer. Depending on the stage, they will be used in different combinations or sequences to effect an appropriate strategy for the type and stage of the disease being treated

Which Breast Cancer Foundation should I donate to

Which Breast Cancer Foundation should I donate to?
My mom was recently diagnosed with Breast Cancer and our friends are throwing her a party and a percentage of the proceeds will go to a charity of my mom's choice. The only foundation we are really familiar with is Susan G. Komen. Are there any others out there that we should do more research on before deciding which organization to donate to?
Cancer - 2 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
Komen is a pretty good choice in my book: much of the money is targeted at groundbreaking research, they use money to help low income women get mammograms, and they have a very informative and likely very expensive web site. It is also 4-star rated at Charity Navigator.

Can you get breast cancer from pinching your nipples

Can you get breast cancer from pinching your nipples?
My boyfriend just told me that I shouldn't pinch my nipples because I could get cancer from it. I want to know whether he's lying or not. Also, my breasts really really hurt. Also, the part that carries the milk from the ducts is really skinny now... I'm worried. Really worried. Please Help.
Women's Health - 7 Answers

1 :
You could get breast cancer whether you pinch your nipples or not. There is no evidence to suggest the two could be related.
2 :
No I don't think so.
3 :
I believe there is no study associating trauma/nipple pinching with breast cancer. Do your breasts hurt all the time? Painful breasts are associated with hormonal changes: your period. I don't understand what's wrong with the duct parts. Do you have inverted nipples?
4 :
No Breast cancer happens due to hormones..and nt nipple pinching..hw old are you?
5 :
Hi, No
6 :
In a totally theoretical sense, yes. If you are pinching them enough to cause a fair amount of trauma, the frequent regeneration could allow for cellular mutations to occur. Sort of like how you can end up with skin cancer after being sunburned. In reality, though, no. No you cannot get breast cancer pinching your nipples. Your breasts may hurt due to menstrual cycle. If you are concerned about this, talk to your doctor. If it is a male doctor and you are embarrassed about talking about it with him, you can talk about it with a nurse in his office. She can give you the information you need, show you how to perform a breast self exam, and also help you in talking to the doctor about this subject.
7 :
No. Don't be worried. There is no link between pinching nipples and breast cancer. Breast cancer doesn't really have a cause yet, but is most likely hereditary. If you are scared go to the doctor to get an examination to be sure. But your boyfriend is wrong

What do you think about the "breast cancer gene test

What do you think about the "breast cancer gene test"?
My sister and I were told that because our mother was diagnosed at age 29 with breast cancer and died from it at age 39 that we need to get the test. We are both scared because we don't want to know if we carry the gene or not. What good can come from getting the test?
Cancer - 2 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
If it's true that there is a gene and you have it, you might become better armed with information about prevention. Personally, I think if you are going to get it, you are going to get it. Incidentally, I recently read that women taking hormones (supposedly for menopause) were much more likely to get breast cancer. To me this is just another reminder that somethings (like menopause) are naturally occuring and that not everything needs a pill. I wish you the best; if I were in your shoes, I think I would get the test done, just to be one step ahead of the game.
2 :
For you and other readers (even though it was not your question) the BRCA1 and BRCA2 tests for breast cancer are not a diagnosis of cancer, merely a test to detect if a mutation has occured at a point in your "code" that is common among those individuals who have breast cancer. There is also testing done for ovarian cancer as their is a strong link between breast and ovarian cancers across generations. Now back to your question specifically, if you do not want to know what your BRCA test results are for personal reasons, you do not have to have it performed...'nuff said. However, (and I hedge this without reviewing your moms case) due to the early onset of your mother's disease and failure at 10 years, it isn't a stretch to believe you are at an increased risk for breast/ovarian cancer over and above the 1 in 8 lifetime risk females are already gambling with, right?. As to the benefit of the test, if you are found to have mutations in the BRCA testing process, and you were wanting to take care of a potential problem...given your family history (as you presented it here...how about aunts, grandmothers, sisters, etc?) you could be a candidate for a i.e. prophylactic mastectomy type of treatment regimen for disease that may be present but at a "pre-clinical" presenting stage. I wish you luck with your decision and please do not hold yourself hostage if you decide to not do it, you can always have it done later...but please, please perform self exams and see your physician regularly...and also maintain the annual screening mammogram regimen recommended by your doctors. Good luck

We are having a fund raiser for breast cancer awareness, does anyone know how to find a jail

We are having a fund raiser for breast cancer awareness, does anyone know how to find a jail?
We are having a fund raiser for breast cancer awareness, does anyone know how to find a jail? I know many charity organizations do it, but does anyone know how it works? We would like to rent the jail, and have people participate in the event. Where people get arrested, and are put in this jail. Then people raise money to 'bail' them out. Any ideas, thoughts or suggestions. We are in the Chicagoland, Illinois area. Thanks for any help!!!

That's different and kind of neat but you will have to call the different jails and ask or go to the police commissioner and present your idea. I think it's a terrific idea unless someone doesn't get bailed out. I've heard of so many kinds of fund raisers but this is a first. Good luck and thank you
