as long as u have it you can get it. not as much as women, but it is in fact possible, i dont have the exact statistics but it is not that common. here are the facts: Male breast cancer is rare. It happens most often to men between the ages of 60 and 70. Risk factors for male breast cancer include exposure to radiation, a family history of breast cancer and having high estrogen levels, which can occur with diseases like cirrhosis or Klinefelter's syndrome. Symptoms of male breast cancer include lumps, changes to the nipple or breast skin, or discharge of fluid from the nipple. Treatment for male breast cancer is usually a mastectomy, which is surgery to remove the breast. Other treatments include radiation, chemotherapy and/or hormone therapy.

Any age, male or female can have breast cancer as either a primary site or secondary site. The reason is because everyone has breast tissue . . women just have more and so are more likely to get breast cancer than men or children. It's rare, but it happens. Actor, Richard Roundtree of Shaft, had male breast cancer: http://www.usatoday.com/news/health/spotlight/2001-09-18-roundtree-cancer.htm Medline Plus: Male Breast Cancer http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/malebreastcancer.html NCI: Male Breast Cancer Treatment http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/pdq/treatment/malebreast/Patient John W Nick Foundation http://www.johnwnickfoundation.org/index.html

Yes, men can get breast cancer, though it is rare and usually occurs in men between the ages of 60 and 70. Women are 100 times more likely to be diagnosed with breast cancer. According to the National Cancer Institute, about 2,030 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year, and 450 will die from it.
4 :
Men do get breast cancer. And they have a hard time treating it because there is no medical term for a male mastectomy and some insurance company's won't pay for the surgery. It's low, where women is like 1 in 8 I want to say men is something like 1 in 400. But yes, they get it just like women, as technically the top part of your pecs are breasts

Could someone please show me a picture of what a cat with breast cancer's nipple would look like

Could someone please show me a picture of what a cat with breast cancer's nipple would look like?
I am kind of worried that my cat might have breast cancer and my mom wont take me seriously. My cats back to nipples feel as if they have lumps. If you cant give me a picture of what a cats nipple would look like, please specifically tell me how the cat would behave or what the cat would look like.

2 :
If you're concerned over something as serious as this then I suggest you see your vet.
3 :
http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?cls=1&cat=1376&articleid=220 You'd have to have the vet evaluate it. Ask for the cat to be checked up at the vets, your mom should go along with that.

What does the National Breast Cancer Foundation do

What does the National Breast Cancer Foundation do?
My girlfriend's mother has breast cancer, so I've been doing some research on the matter to find helpful info. I came across the Natioal Breast Cancer Foundation's website, and all it says they do there is provide mammograms and try to educate people about breast cancer... it doesn't seem like they actually do anything in terms of treating it...

I've heard that all the bracelets people buy, and pots or water jugs etc that are pink, the money just goes to education, and advertising. I think their main goal is really just to get people to pay attention and care enough to get a mammogram.

The National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) is the leading community-funded national organisation in Australia raising money for research into the prevention, detection and treatment of breast cancer. Since the NBCF was established in 1994, over $44.5million has been awarded to Australian based researchers across every state and territory, to improve the health and wellbeing of those affected by breast cancer. Research programs funded by the NBCF cover every aspect of breast cancer, from increasing understanding of genetics to improving ways to support women and their families. Underpinning the NBCF’s approach is the National Action Plan for Breast Cancer Research and Funding, a blueprint for accelerating our knowledge and understanding of breast cancer. The National Action Plan centres on funding collaborations with other like-minded organisations including the state based Cancer Councils and Cancer Australia. This ensures a long term, cost effective and coordinated approach to research, while providing an opportunity to accurately monitor and report outcomes to supporters. The NBCF does not receive any government funding, and therefore relies on corporate and community support to continue its work. Key fundraising initiatives of the NBCF are October’s Pink Ribbon campaigns, including Pink Ribbon Breakfasts, Pink Ribbon Day, Pink Magazine, Global Illumination and Pink Ribbon Licensed Product. In addition, the NBCF works with a range of corporate partners on cause-related campaigns. The NBCF also works with third parties on major fund raising events such as the Mothers Day Classic, a national walk or run for breast cancer held annually, and reaches the youth market through the Fashion Targets Breast Cancer campaign

Is there any link between lung cancer and breast cancer

Is there any link between lung cancer and breast cancer?
Maybe it has something to do with smoking and breast cancer? I'm concerned because my mom had breast cancer in the past, and she picked up smoking again. Links would be helpful too. Thank you!

To my knowledge, there is no link between the two cancers other than the fact that cancer can spread if not detected early. It's never good to smoke, especially if you have a medical background. I would suggest that you urge her not to smoke.
2 :
Testing continues to determine the exact relationship between breast cancer and smoking. At this point there have been studies that have shown both no relationship and a definite relationship. Smoking is not good on many levels and increases risks for many, many health issues. Breast cancer and Lung cancer are different diseases. The link between Breast cancer and the lungs is that breast cancer will, in later stages, spread (metastasize) to the lungs, brain and bone. It is still breast cancer even though it resides in another part of the body

How young do you have to be to get breast cancer

there was someone here in Colorado who got brest cancer when they were 10 Cancer knows no age.
2 :
Breast cancer is almost unheard of in people under 20 and fewer than 0.1% of all those diagnosed with it are under 30. Only 5% of those diagnosed with breast cancer are under 40 and 80% are over 50. The average age at diagnosis is a little over 60. There was a girl of ten diagnosed with breast cancer; it was a very rare form, more likely to occur in children rather than an 'adult' cancer. The case made headlines world wide because of its EXTREME rarity. When I was diagnosed with breast cancer I was classed as 'young'; I was 50
3 :
It actually can be at any age if you are predisposed to it from a family member

is there a cure for stage 1 breast cancer

is there a cure for stage 1 breast cancer?
I am 58, have stage 1 breast cancer. I had surgery, but they decided I didn't need chemotherapy or anything else. Is my cancer cured? I am 58, er, and pr negative. I am her2 positive. My doctor recommded no treatment due to tumor size of 2ml. I had surgery already.

1 :
You should ask your doctors.
2 :
Your stage 1 status means your tumor was small and no cancer was detected in nearby structures including the lymph nodes. The surgery removed the visible tumor. However, it is impossible to know whether small numbers of cancer cells may have traveled to other parts of your body. You may wish to seek a second opinion, because there is significant risk by not having chemotherapy. Chemotherapy is extremely effective at destroying cancer cells which may have traveled in small numbers across your body. Chemotherapy is a system-wide cancer killer. Not having chemo is quite risky. You also need long-term follow-on medications based upon whether your breast cancer was estrogen receptor positive and HER2 positive. Tamoxifen and Herceptin are the drugs of choice in these cases. Get a second opinion.
3 :
second opinion for sure my wife has recently died of breast cancer it doesn't matter if your hair falls out if your sick or any other side effect its better than dieing
4 :
If your oncologist thought that you needed chemotherapy then you would have gotten it and radiation too. But it was pretty small and probably had excellent margins. So yes your cancer is cured for all purposes.
5 :
Well, there isn't a "Cure". But if they said you are "cancer-free", you are cured unless the cancer comes back

does the contraceptive pill increase my chances of getting breast cancer

does the contraceptive pill increase my chances of getting breast cancer?
ive been on the contraceptive pill for 2 years. Is this going to increase my chances of breast cancer? should I get off it for a while?
Women's Health - 2 Answers

1 :
Yes. Oral contraceptives have lots of hormones in them. You should get off it for a little while, or at least talk to your doctor.
2 :
Talk to your doctor about this. In the info with your pills, it should say it slightly raises the risk of breast cancer and I think cervical cancer, too. If you regularly do self-checks and get checked yearly with your doctor, you shouldn't have any major problems. I don't know if going off it for a while will help reduce your risk or not. Talk to your doctor before you decide to stop your birth control.

Out of these two, which is the most possible of getting breast cancer

Out of these two, which is the most possible of getting breast cancer?
Do the majority of women who get breast cancer have small breasts or big breasts? Also, if you get breast implants can you still get cancer? (Not trying to be immature. This is a serious question.) Thank you!
Cancer - 5 Answers

1 :
Men can get breast cancer, so size if the breast has nothing to do with it. Breast implants may encourage growth of cancer cells.
2 :
Women of all shapes and sizes get breast cancer - the size of your breasts is irrelevant. I am a full-breasted woman who got breast cancer; my friend is almost flat-chested and got breast cancer. Men get breast cancer too. Yes, if you have implants you can get breast cancer.
3 :
People who get breast cancer produce too much estrogen. Electromagnetic and microwave field exposure from things like cell phones, cell phone masts and antennas, and wi-fi disrupts hormones. So my guess would be that cell phone users are more likely to get breast cancer, regardless of breast size or implants. Read this: http://www.breastcancer.org/treatment/hormonal/what_is_it/hormone_role.jsp "Hormone receptors are like ears or antennae on a cell. Estrogen sends signals through the receptors that tell breast cancer cells to grow. Cells with estrogen receptors grow and multiply when estrogen attaches to the receptors." Then consider the signals that this new technology is sending to breast cancer cells.
4 :
size doesnt matter and yes to the implants.
5 :
The information above about hormones is incorrect. Some breast cancers are sensitive to hormones (I believe about 75%). The rest are not
